There are a few in the WWE who has excellent amatuer wrestling backgrounds (Lesnar was a tremendous amatuer wrestler) and that's always been a great base for a MMA fighter. If MMA was as big as it is now 20 years ago, you'd have seen quite a few decide to go down that route (The Undertaker said this as did Kurt Angle).
Yea I was trying to find CM Punk's college wrestling background but it appears he has none so it's not even a possibility. I have saw the interview when The Undertaker saw that, didn't know about Kurt Angle though.
Aye, besides Lesnar you have Swagger, Ziggler with great amateur wrestling records, I'd fancy their chances of making the switch more. Del Rio is ex-MMA, but not especially good, and Santino apparently has a decent MMA record, and Judo, IIRC. I think The Undertaker would have been quality, had he done it when young and healthy, Angle of course could have been great.
Angle almost got his arm broken by one of the Tough Enough contestants ages ago.
I'd say he'd have let it snap before tapping too...
I always really liked Angle. He was a funny guy as well as being very gifted physically. Shame he's not in the WWE, a good fued between him and Lesnar would be great.
God when I was a kid it seemed like those two were always either feuding with each other or the Big Show.
I kinda lost interest in pro wrestling before Lensnar arrived and have only recently started watching again so missed all that.

Considering the number of people who boo Cena and the popularity of the Feed Me More chant, I think Ryback will struggle to get heat.

They've more or less killed the Fandago thing, that was just ridiculously forced.
I think Raw told you how most crowds will react to the two, Cena will always be the more popular one in less the smarky areas (which WWE spend more time in). Smarks dont even really like Ryback so he won't be cheered to the levels of the likes of Punk when going up against Cena.
I think they're going down the right route with those two, Ryback obviously needs a mouth piece though, Heyman perhaps with Punk leaving, think someone has suggested that in this thread.
I can't see Heyman working with both Lesnar and Ryback on screen. I think Heyman clearly had a massive effect on Ryback's promo on Raw, it was old school ECW in a lot of ways, but he won't work together on screen you'd think.
To build on your first point, I think ti is just lazy booking nowadays. It seems the quickest way to make someone number 1 contender is get them to beat the champion in a non-title match. I never understand this, it makes your champion look weak. They did it with the Miz and R-Truth before when he feuded with Cesaro.
When I was a kid, and the IC belt or any belt for that matter meant something, the Champion NEVER lost (unless in a tag). And so when they did lose, it was a surprise. Nowadays, who gives a sh!t!
As to your second point, Ryback isn't so bad on the mic. I don't think Heyman needs to be the mouthpiece of every heel, espicially as there is no connection to Ryback or Heyman. However, they booked Ryback as a whiny heel who turns away from fights now? Its the classic John you abandoned me story line so I want revenge and with Cena overcoming (he just had a feud like this in December with AJ). They should have just made Ryback the same ass-kicking machine but now he wants the belt.
I'm fairly certain that the whole titles thing has been caused by Miz picking up an injury against Barrett, it's odd how he's just disappeared, they need to keep the face/heel champion dynamic right so boom, face becomes US champion instead. Hopefully Cesaro can get a raise now, even though he seems to be being saddled with pathetic stuff like yodelling.
Anyone else REALLY not see the Taker match happening next week? I mean, you don't waste a Taker match on a Raw, have it at a PPV. Punk being out until post-Summerslam is going to test them a lot, but building the likes of Cesaro, Barrett etc... could make up for it, there's enough talent about.

Yeh Orton's pretty beige, just no personality when he's talking. I got a bit bored of Sheamus during his World Title run, but his matches against Big Show turned it around for me. They were really well done. Not a fan of the amount of cheese his promos have taken on but such is the WWE.
I want Sheamus to make more Fr. Ted references to Cena.

Really? Not sure what gave you that impression. Absolute shit crowd, made us look ridiculous really when you consider we only get a certain amount of live shows over here. Crowd was utter dire for the most part, barring Jericho, Taker and Fandango. No real atmosphere at all in the actual matches. We usually have much better crowds than this, strange.
I think what he meant was trying hard and failing miserably.
It sounded like a low-rent imitation act... quite embarrasing really, especially when they chanted "We are Awesome" (Note: you weren't)

The crowd was amazing. Much better than the silence we usually get week in week out. I haven't watched it on sky yet, but if it appeared subdued its because it was edited that way for TV.

A huge inflatable dolphin was being thrown around by the crowd during the Ziggler/Jericho match. It got confiscated when it got close to the tv cameras.
The smarks were out in full force last night. The crowd made an otherwise dull card extremely entertaining.
The roof nearly came off for the Undertaker HHH, Foley and Jericho. The crowd were loving Fandango too. The shield got a massive pop as well.

Very impressed with The Shield, particualrly Rollins, who I think is the best out of the 3 of them. But they really need a new entrance theme as the generic 2003 midcard theme shouldn't be used for a group who is becoming a focal point of the show.

It didnt come across well on tv at all, the crowd seemed to me more like they were trying to get themselves over than the people in the matches. Fair enough a couple of weeks ago the crowd was chanting for everything bar the wrestlers during the Orton-Sheamus match where neither wrestler is particularly popular, but last night the crowd seemed to be doing the same even during the Jericho-Ziggler match which considering how 'smarky' UK crowds usually are was surprising.
I don't mind if they change their music but they should keep the intro thing they have. The ''Sierra, Hotel, India, Echo, Lima, Delta'' bit.
That works. When the crowd hear it, there are instant boos (or cheers depending on the crowd).
I dunno, the plain, simple bit of riffing suits, they don't really need a special song.
