Television Tho Prop Grops Throps

I went down a wrestling YouTube rabbit hole yesterday and not being a viewer of NXT came across the Andrade v Johnny Gargano match.

Wow! Immediately up there as one of the best I've ever seen. Certainly in recent years. Everything was so crisp and the pacing was phenomemal.

They were muted by production apparently who were allegedly dubbing cheering noises in. Apparently though they messed up though as one of the audio files used during Drew’s entrance apparently you can here Michael Cole talking about him being a 16 time world champion ( obviously grabbed from a Cena entrance).

They always dub cheers in

This was a great time for NXT. A really good run of linked storylines all the way from Takeover: Toronto in November 2016, right through to Takeover: Toronto in August 2019.

I felt it got a bit stale then as they seemed to run out of good ideas of what to do with Undisputed Era/Adam Cole, and Gargano & Ciampa.

The pandemic after certainly didnt help with the change of venues, and also the timeline youve given, the ending is just before AEW started and NXT focus was more on that and counter programming then what they were used to (expanding from 1 hour to 2 didnt help their weekly shows)

No, the pandemic hurt them, as did the expansion from 2 hours to try and counter AEW (I believe NXT is now on Tuesdays?).

The WarGames following TakeOver: Toronto in 2019 was fun, but didn't have much going on in the way of storyline, then Portland and In Your House following that were still pretty solid, but they've really struggled to generate any longlasting storylines since.

They've just seemed a bit directionless since, and it's not been helped by random call ups that have gone nowhere.

Im confused, are you agreeing or disagreeing with me?

Ronda has been bitter about WWE since before she even left. She thought she'd be everyone's favourite wrestler but then couldn't see through worked tweets when she was feuding with Becky and ended up making an arse of herself on twitter and TV.

She's not entirely wrong that WWE fans have ruined their own product, but Bray going isn't an example of it.

Agreeing. I have no idea why I began that post with "no". Yesterday was clearly a long day
 All good. Its a shame too, cos NXT when it had its own direction was great. A vision by HHH.
You can tell things were then changed to make Vince happy.

I just read that Kross, lost again, to Keith Lee.
So they both returned on the same night and are now both 1-2

And yet, I bet theres people out there defending this. This is sabotaging NXT (as hes still their champion and appearing weekly).
If its some storyline for him to lose, and then bring in Scarlett, it makes no sense. Because are we to believe he for some reason decided to appear without his manager, who is his wife?

This whole thing does my head in and is why ive stopped watching NXT bar the takeovers.

I've really cooled on wrestling since the pandemic hit. I've watched the takeovers and a couple of the main roster ppvs, but NXT's weekly showing lost me a while ago. Things like Kross losing for no reason on the main roster just reinforce that decision.

I'm probably going to pick up AEW, as a 90 minute weekly show and less frequent ppvs seems far more up my street, and from everything I've seen and read, it's a better product anyway.

I've got pretty much everything WWE, WCW and ECW on a hard drive from the first Nitro to about 2010 anyway, so if I want to watch WWE I can just relive that

They are trying to build Joe Vs Kross and I'm supposed to be interested in that, and then I come here and read this. Oh well. In what universe you book your champions like this?

Have people seen Max Casters rap on AEW Dark? What do people think?
Apparently been pulled by AEW / Edited.

Here before it probably ends up getting pulled.

I see a lot of people are annoyed / offended by it.

He lost clean as well  Its too funny. If he hadnt lost those two matches, him vs Joe would have been much much more appealing, especially with Kross appearing on Raw.

AEW is better. Easily.

Nothing wrong with the rap. They're heels, let them be cnuts.

What was deemed acceptable in 03/04 when Cena was doing that, isn’t in 2021.
I found it amusing but not surprised it’s been edited.

She really didn’t take the booing she got well. Not sure why she took it so personally. Every major face has been booed mercilessly in WWE down the years. You’d think she’d have known that and just shrugged it off.

Masks are mandatory for those attending Summerslam it's just been announced.

Even though it's a very unique stadium that opens up from the sides, the high heat outside will mean it will be shut and so lot's of recycled air will be in play.

Rates are increasing in America, hopefully event's won't start getting cancelled at some stage.

She clearly hadn't actually watched or learned anything about the product. That match where Charlotte was beating the shit out of her with kendo sticks was hilarious with how pissed off and upset Ronda was.

Haha yup… there was also that Becky Lynch tweet which she responded to with something along the lines of “I could hurt you in real life”. Not surprised she’s not come back.

Pretty boring Dynamite apart from Black completely squashing Cody in a similar manner to what Brodie did last year. Looks like Cody will be taking some time off too.

Tricky thing now will be to keep the momemtum going for Black with who they line up for him next.

The last trial of Jericho is so anti-climactic. Should've been the deathmatch last. Top rope Judas effect was nice though. Looked way better than the normal one he does.

Also looks like Christian v Omega at All Out which is meh. From the promo's about Hangman not being good enough for 'The Elite' I wonder if the plan is for Kenny to start dropping all the belts and then losing the final one to Page on PPV with the Elite turning on him and them making up?

Yeah, was one of the weaker episodes for quite a while. I think episodes like this are a strong argument for AEW needing more than 4 PPVs a year. The wheels have been spinning a bit until the next big show. 6-8 would be about right.

I liked the main event. Wrestling always needs more short squashes in the main event to keep fans honest. I'm not sure where the Cody stuff is going. Nobody buys him retiring. At one point I thought he would be the one to stop Hangman winning the main title, turning heel and breaking his stipulation in the process.

I didnt mind Dynamite. Obviously the main thing for the show was the opener and the ending. And in between was building towards Rampage first episode and the next PPV.

Main event was great. MB just comes off as a star, with his entrance, his look and the way he presents himself. I just hope Cody doesnt return within a month or so and get his win back like he did vs Brodie.

That match makes sense and is a good holding position, for Omega to beat Christian and take him out the title position
But Elite turning on Omega to join Hangman? Or make up with Hangman? Hope we dont see that.

Kenny will be a face again after all this. He's a pretty crap heel and there's plenty of them already. Maybe not the whole Elite but I can see the others shunning him and maybe Hangman being the bigger man to pick him back up.

This is interesting:

There’s been talk in the FOX circles about some unhappiness with WWE.

Some sources have pointed to the idea that Smackdown is FOX property that FOX is paying basically around a billion dollars over five years for but that show ends up on Peacock, an NBCUniversal property now that they have licensed the WWE Network.

Beyond that, all the PPVs being built on Smackdown have storylines that culminate on Peacock as well, which effectively means a FOX show that FOX pays for is pushing people to a NBC Universal property. That’s probably at least part of the reason why we saw the Roman Reigns-Rey Mysterio Hell In A Cell bout shifted over to Smackdown.

Fox at one point would heavily advertise WWE and also had other shows produced and now they have nothing else.

I wonder given how things are going, if when the deals are both coming up for Raw and Smackdown, is when WWE will look to sell the company, knowing they are unlikely to get such a large deal again, especially if AEW keeps growing

Thing is, I could see WWE getting a big deal next time as long as they maintain the ratings. I think the key demo is ok too.
In this time, consistent ratings and a consistent following is a big thing despite how shitty the product is especially when it comes to the advertising.

of course a shit lot can happen in 2 years, nevermind 5 years (or whenever the deal is up for negotiating)

I wonder why Fox and WWE don't do a big ppv type event every other month maybe,

WWE are 100% getting ready to be sold.

That or they are preparing to offer Doink the Clown $20m to do a match soon.

I've not been watching for a good while now but I do kinda keep up with what's happening. Looked over the roster to see where its at after these recent releases, there's barely anyone on Smackdown. And on Raw, how do Riddick Moss and Jaxson Ryker, who is a massive arsehole, still have jobs but you get rid of someone like Black. Hell you'd promote Bronson Reed or most guys in NXT to replace them. Really does seem like they are just gearing up to be sold but you'd imagine Vince isn't going to be out completely so you'd think he'd leave himself enough to work with. Then again he's been very ropey in his judgment of talent.

He's 75 and taken countless knocks to the head. Maybe his judgment is getting a little clouded.

Saying that, WWE go from strength to strength financially.
