Television Tho Prop Grops Throps

As a fan who lived through the 'New Generation', 'Attitude', 'Ruthless Aggression' eras, I decided to give the WWE Network a go....HOLY COW!!! This is awesome! Watching Bret, Shawn, classic Rey Mysterio Jr. Jericho Eddie Angle, Brock and even Benoit (as awkward as it is) makes me realise what wrestling has lost in the last 20yrs.

Now, if it means wrestlers live beyond an average age of 37 and no more CTE induced murder-suicides than I'm all for it, but there is something about some of these feuds (currently going through the Austin vs Hart feud, just watched Survivor Series 1996 - for my money a better match than WM13) that will never be replaced in the modern era.

Also, watching Shawn Michaels's glorious mullet flowing as he runs the ropes in 1993-1996 is just a thing of BEAUTY!

Feel like that's nostalgia mixed with a lack of internet, mostly.

But, does have to be said, NJPW do it better, where you have matches you actually care about, regardless of whether a titles involved. Those days, you'd actively tune in to the Dudley's vs Edge and Christian even if there were no titles involved. Would anyone actually care if the bludgeon brothers faces the accension tonight?

I think the quality of wrestling has gone up, and times have changed. The best wrestlers are the ones who are over, not necessarily the best gimmicks.

but Blundgeon Brothers nor Accension are in the level of those you mentioned, it is more like Usos vs New Days, or The Bar vs Shield, and obviously people tune in for the ones I mentioned.

You're missing the point entirely. The point is, people aren't as invested in matches when there isn't a title involved.

Whereas, NJPW you've got matches like Cody V Kenny which people actually want to see. Nobody wants to see Sami zayne vs Elias for instance.

But neither of Zayn or Elias are pushed as much as either Cody or Kenny, it is an uneven comparison.
Kenny vs Cody, is just like Zayn vs Owens few years back or Reigns vs Cena last year, or Miz/Cena feud, Taker vs any, title did not mattered.

I understand what you trying to say, that booking in NJPW makes even non-title matches more engaging, but WWE also had done stories in last few years, which are engaging even without titles.

Too few and fair between.

The problem for WWE is the amount of hours they have to write for in a week which makes it a difficult task for them to focus on everything.
Raw and SD are meant to be separate entities to make that easier but it clearly is overseen by the same guy.

I’m actually looking forward to when HHH has full control. There was a report that HHH had hired professional writers to come in and write material and stories. Not just run of the mill writers either. Can’t recall who it was but apparently people with actual success.
They said it was horrible working under Vince and he vetoed pretty much all the ideas which eventually led to them leaving. Obviously don’t know all the ins and outs but from what I’ve read HHH seems to be the one trying to progress it and make it a better product but is struggiling with Vince at the helm.

Yeah isn't HHH the one that got in wrestlers that don't fit Vince's wet dreams of big oily men?

The likes of AJ Styles, Nakamura, Finn Balor etc?

We wont know until hes actually in charge (if that ever happens)
The big thing is that there will still be mcMahon influence (stephanie). I think doing it on NXT is different to doing it to Raw/SD.
Eg for SD, wasnt it HHHs idea that Road Dogg becomes their main writer? anyway, since hes come in, SD has been horrible. I remember the initial first months of SD, I was watching it live and watching Talking Smack. Think around WM time last year it just all went downhill.

I think he's friends with Max Landis who is a professional writer and fan of wrestling, wouldn't be surprised if he was bought in.

Am I the only one that doesnt like Max Landis? (well maybe thats strong, maybe im indifferent to him)
Like he did that pro wrestling isnt wrestling video which was funny. but then a lot of his other stuff has been bleh.

So... WWE moving away from single brand PPVs. Self sabotage.
and its funny this is the exact same thing that happened the first time around.

Brand split happens. SD becomes better than Raw.
They fix that with changes, which doesnt necessarily mean Raw gets better but they make SD worse. Then they end dual brand PPVs.
So youre gonna have people on the roster with no PPV matches (taken away from them). Shame.

I'm not a fan of both rosters doing every PPV either., it'll probably be about 4 matches from each which leaves a lot of wrestlers out.
Maybe a tag match, triple threat, women's title match and a men's single match. That's only 11 wrestlers, maybe a couple more.
Then there's the likes of the Elimination Chamber, guessing it'll be half Raw and half Smackdown, unless they think having 4 Chamber matches is a good idea.

Join ppv's are gonna be a killer for the mid carders. I mean they have great talent like Rollins and Ballor doing next to nothing, its gonna get even worse for them.

They need to get that belt of Lesnar, too many wrestlers are out of the picture and they could be wrestling for the belt rather than being filler content every week.

They making the PPVs 5 hours long so it won’t really be a killer.

They got Rollins and Balor doing nothing on single brand PPVs anyway.

Kill me now. Jesus Christ that's worse than leaving some talent off the card.

Rumours are its 4 hours for the standard PPVs and 5 for the big ones.
Thats too much. People will stop half way unless its a big one like Rumble.

The big shows tend to run long anyway so that won't change much. I'm guessing this is in response to the dissapointing sales for the single brand PPVs so their response is just stick more star power on each show. Will likely work but overlooks the issue of the quality of their product and build towards PPV events.

Also Jeff Jerrett is in the HOF. Surprising after he held Vince up for money back in 99. Then again Warrior did the same and he got in.

Talk about scrapping the bottom of the barrel, maybe they need to think about doing it every other year or lowering the number of people who go in. Vader should be in (good chance he won’t be alive this time next year), Chyna should be added, I know Owen Hart and Chris Benoit will never be added (for different reasons)

Short term, maybe. but then it goes back to the whole issue of lower card guys not getting a spot and a chance to get bigger.

But doesnt matter anyway, WWE will bring in part timers for WM and then these guys will lose out and fans will think they dont matter. And not bother to see them for the rest of the year.

Why would vader not be alive next year and why would Owen hart never br added?

Vader's been having health issues, I believe he said some time last year that his doctor had given him two years to live.
Owen isn't in yet because his wife blames WWE for his death and doesn't want him in. Her stance hasn't softened in twenty years so it seems unlikely to happen, at least while she's alive.

Vader said that he has seen two heart doctors and they said he has Heart failure and gave him 2 years to live and that was late 2016 I believe.
And their is a lot of bad feelings and legal battles between WWE and Owen Hart’s widow Martha, and WWE know how to hold a grudge otherwise Jim Neidhart and Dynamite Kid would also be in the Hall of fame

What happened with British bulldog?

Sorry, got that wrong there is no grudge there. I honestly thought I read (years ago) that there were issues between them, I will delete him from my message.
the only reason I can see why ne has not been added yet is due to his drug abuse which lead to his death (same with Miss Elizabeth)

Jarret should be in there for his contribution to wrestling in general, not for his time in wwf/wcw. I'm happy for him.

The man created TNA, a legit rival to the WWE, which many thought would become bigger. Gave a platform to stars such as Samoa Joe and AJ styles and was very entertaining. Post-Jarret TNA is wank.

Also, Kurt Angle to induct him. For the bants.

To be fair to Jarrett, he’s a six time IC champ and a 4 time WCW champ.

They'll do well to make a package of Jarrett's WWF years that doesn't mention Owen Hart or Chyna.

I think the stance on Chyna is softening somewhat, especially after Triple H mentioned her on Raw a few weeks back. I think she’ll be inducted in the next few years.

I think they always wanted to induct her but were too afraid of what she'd say on the mic.

Now they'd be very open to doing it obviously.

Even tho the match has nothing on the line and makes no sense, the gauntlet has been amazing so far. An hour and its still on the second match of it.

Rollins

One of the best wrestlers on the roster who’s been criminally underused since his return from injury, I hope last nights performance signals a return to a top spot.
