Couldn't find a thread... They've been advertising this show for weeks now on C4 and E4.

I personally loved the film and this looks just as ace. Will be watching next Tuesday at 10pm.

Shane Meadows is to make his first television drama with a four-part sequel to his film This Is England

Meadows has co-written 4 x 60-minute drama serial This Is England '86 with Jack Thorne (The Scouting Book for Boys, Skins), with filming scheduled to begin shortly.

This Is England, which picked up several awards including the 2008 Bafta for Best British Film, centred on young skinheads in the summer of 1983. It followed 12-year-old Shaun, played by Thomas Turgoose, and his acceptance into a group of skinheads, which is eventually split by a growing racist influence.

This Is England '86 revisits the main characters – Shaun, Woody and Lol – in 1986, when the World Cup was taking place in Mexico, Chris de Burgh held the number one slot and 3.4 million were unemployed in Britain.

As Shaun sits his last school exam, the realisation dawns that he will have to find his own way in the world. But friends including Woody, Lol, Smell, Gadget and Pukey are around looking for love, laughs and a job.

All the main cast, including Turgoose, are expected to return.

Meadows, who has helmed movies such as Twentyfourseven, Dead Man’s Shoes and A Room for Romeo Brass, said: “When I finished This is England, I had a wealth of material and unused ideas that I felt very keen to take further.

“Audiences seemed to really respond to the characters we created and out of my long-standing relationship with Film 4 and Channel 4 the idea for a television serial developed.

“Not only did I want to take the story of the gang broader and deeper, I also saw in the experiences of the young in 1986 many resonances to new – recession, lack of jobs, sense of the world at a turning point.

“Whereas the film told part of the story, the TV serial will tell the rest.”

Commissioned by C4 head of drama Liza Marshall, it will be made by Warp Films with Mark Herbert as series producer and Derrin Schlesinger as producer.

Cheers for the reminder bludddddd, I'd forgotten about this.

*runs downstairs to record on sky+*

Absolutely loved This is England, one of my favourite british films.

This Is England was a good, shall be throwing an eye over this for the 80's nostalgia if nothing else, I was 8 in 86.

Is the big racist bad guy in it this time round? Not seen him on the advertisements..

Loved the film. Will definitely check this out.

Bit confused by the picture on the C4 website though. Didn't the black lad get killed at the end of TIE?

IIRC in the last scene someone (the mother I think) tells the kid that the guy is in hospital and will be ok.

Aye, DouLou's got it spot on.

I love the bit on the advert where Shaun's walking out of school, acting the big man and then he's mum's standing there waiting to meet him.

Just a reminder that this is on tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.

Personally can't wait.

How is it then? I missed the first 20 mins so I'll watch it on 4od or something if everyone liked it.

Did it not say at the start theirs no adverts or did I mishear that?

There only wasn't an advert before it started as Big Brother over-ran.

To answer your question Solius, I've really enjoyed it! Thought this episode has been brilliant, but you really must have watched and enjoyed the film I think. Really good to see all the characters later on in life and see what they're doing and has had some proper funny bits. I can't wait to watch it all.

I enjoyed it, think it's set the mini series up well. fecking adverts though, reminded me why I don't normally bother with watching something I'm genuinely interested in on TV.

It was ok - won't be going out of my way to watch the rest but will check it out if nowt else on.

Found it a bit strange that Shaun turned from a junior skinhead to a geeky loser in the space of 3 years.

I thought it was very good...Much like the film, nothing much "happens", it's a character study, but so was the film...And characters are all very much there and real..Nice touch starting with the film too.

...And the pink haired punk girl pulled a daring heist on my wank bank and's now stuck in there..

which punk girl? I hope you dont mean 'Smell' - she's fecking hideous !

First half an hour was piss funny.

Second half just set the scene...

The Mod/Punk girls do it for me

It's a slow burner, and as Mockney says, it's more about character study than slick plotlines.

I thought that bully kid in the blue tracksuit was hilarious.

Tennage girl: I was thinking of going to the college to do health and beauty and then maybe going on to do hairdressing.

Bully: Uoh yea, that sounds like a really good course.

why? he went from a geeky loser to a junior skinhead in the space of about a week in the film....he obviously turned his back onto skinhead stuff after what happened to his mate.

I thought it was ace, same as the film. Rest assured lads I'd do all of those punk girls, especially smell.

Can't wait til Combo shows up.

Will be interesting to see how he's evolved...or devolved

She was pretty decent wasn't she! I recognise her from another programme though and can't place it.

I had a quick look earlier too but can't find her real name, anybody help??

No you napkin....Urgh

Yes Kelly...Lols sister

I had to look her up to make sure which one she is

This Is England '86 - Kelly

I was worried about you for a bit, but ye Im with you now

Good point! I kind of forgot what he was like at the beginning of the film

Just watched this first episode, thought it was decent enough. Some really funny bits in it too, the bully in the tracksuit was great.

This is on now by the way, not that I feel like watching it after tonights events.
