Things I Like About Steven Gerrard

I know I mentioned this already, but I feel it needs high-lighting because of the sheer lunacy of it for those that switched off after the match.

They presented him with a golden number 8 trophy. A TROPHY FOR GOD SAKE.

Ups

Yea, they have been, a lot, hence my mentioning it. But well done on making an argument when you actually don't know what you're talking about.

Seems like you'r making generalizing people opinions without even knowing what they're talking about.

Good job.

Found yesterday a bit drawn out and tedious, if I'm being honest. He has been an idol of mine and a great player but the whole tribute thing pretty much completely overshadowed yesterday's game.

Plenty will have liked it though, so each to their own and fair enough.

I think Ryan Giggs deserves a golden number 13 trophy.

The whole thing had the feel of a testimonial. Many great players have left the Premier League, other great players who played for one club in England have left the Premier League without this much fanfare. John Terry certainly is not everybody's cup of tea, but he won't get this much fanfare upon his last home match.

I know what you mean. It was a long day at the game and yes the result/performance was poor (fair play to Palace).
I have had a season ticket for 30 years and he was one of the best players I have seen play for us. Pretty much everyone stayed so for me that was worth it, even most of the away fans waited , and Gerrard acknowledged that first.
It will be the last time I see him play for Liverpool, and he deserved all the applause he got.

I have always disliked that annual walk around the pitch at the end of the final home game, seeing the likes of Balotelli laughing and joking especially.

The bigger picture is that we have a lot of work to do in the summer!

I do think many are getting a bit too wound up about it.

I like the fact that Crystal Palace spoilt his party two years in a row.

Very good player in his time.

He reminds me of the mid2000s. I met him when I was 14, just after he won the CL. Seemed like a nice enough bloke. Got a picture with him in which I'm wearing an Inter Milan jersey that's about 12 sizes too big for me and some beat up Nike T90 astroturfs.

Thing is we've always had a legend in waiting while the previous owner vacated. Dalglish to Rushie, to Fowler, to Owen, to Gerrard, to....no one. FSG had to milk this as much as possible, and of course Stevie deserves every minute of it too.

However, I have made no secret that I thought and still think this whole season has been Gerrard's testimonial. We are where we are in the league table because of the leaving party preparations from August. Yes we've had other issues (goalie, strikers, defenders) but the points dropped from August to December killed us. I'm sad Stevie's going - could do with another 27 year old Gerrard right now - but at the same time hugely relieved.

Monster of a player in his prime, deserves all the accolades and adulation. Anyone that says anything different needs to follow another sport.
