Thibaut Courtois | Performances

that would be great!

Is there a substance to that rumour? Can we keep our Dave

Was just rumour last year turned their attention to Courtois because they couldn't get Dave and now these rumors of Courtois not seeing a future has me giddy!

I remember when the hipsters were claiming he was better than De Gea

Oh, and @Vato , you had a shocker there mate :D

He was better. De Gea clearly better now though, as he's improved a lot while Courtois has regressed.

Don't disagree, but Courtois was better when he was at Atlético.

I think it was a case of him being slightly inferior to DDG but he was potentially seen as someone who could be better than him soon as de gea was a couple of years older and courtois was almost as good.

Basically it was that courtois is excellent for a 21 year old and could be the best by 23 (DDG at the time) at this rate.

I dunno about that. Not to take anything away from De Gea at that time because I think he was the third best in the world, but Courtois had just played a crucial role in an amazing La Liga win and was pivotal in Atlético reaching the Champions League final.

I don't doubt De Gea's ability to perform but (from memory...) he was and still is fairly unproven in the Champions League. Not his fault he hasn't had the chance to show more in that competition but still a consideration.

It's probably not something worth arguing over though - they were both very close in ability that season either way, and De Gea has created a huge gap between the two now.

Why did he rush out with his feet first? He was in the box so could have gone with his hands. May have still been the same outcome but he'd have a better shot at it

With Hart possibly on the move too there could be a lot of changes for the top teams in the GK department.

On the one hand it may prove easier to keep De Gea if Madrid have others like Courtois to choose from, but on the other hand if De Gea still wants out then we might not get a better chance to get in a quality replacement.

I stopped watching after the second goal but i thought he was having a good game until then.

I actually thought that his last season at Atletico he wasn't as good as the season before that. The title race was close and he made a number of mistakes and soft goals let in that could have easily cost Atletico the title. I remember cursing at him as Atletico missed the chance to top the table because of his mistake. He was great in the champions league though.

He was not bad today. Defense and Midfield were shit.

Got beat on a deflection for the first.
For second was thrown one-on-one with the best finisher in the world with 8 players pulling out of tackles.
Third was in part his fault, but both cahil and mikel were equally at fault too.

Same. Butlands a better keeper and English too.

Why would stoke sell Butland when they already sold Begovic to keep hold of Butland.

It would take 30-40m just to make stoke interested in a negotiation.

No it wouldn't.

Yeah the concept of inflation is a hard one to understand.

Done worry, you'll get it when you get to 4th grade.

What are you jabbering on about inflation? The record hasn't been beaten in 10 years and a lot of top goalkeepers have moved clubs in that period. It certainly won't be beaten by Butland.

I remember a huge fuss being made about him cos he was coming out to catch the ball. The problem was (and I thought this a few seasons ago) he wasnt great at one on ones. I do think he looked better at Atleti than Chelsea though.

He saved about two one vs ones today. Messi used to struggle one vs one against him.

I thought he was great before the sending off, which was embarrassing from the Chelsea defence. Fernandinho overruns the ball and still finds himself one on one.

Courtois is 18 months younger than Big Dave. De Gea took over a year to really find his feet in The Premier League.

£30-£40m for Butland .

The world record is still Buffon.

£40m is a bit steep but Stoke will not be selling him for any less than £25m. I'd say £25-35m is what a team would have to pay if they wanted him, regardless of his true value.

Agree with this. Personally I believe Courtois has been overhyped, he's a great keeper but not in the world's top few and never has been for me. Today though he was decent enough, the penalty was bad but he had been placed in a shit situation, not much he could do really, he had to come out and challenge Fernandinho.

Agreed. There's no real pressure for them to sell as I think they're fine financially and with the new PL deal, plus he only signed a new five and a half year contract last month.

This guy always seemed a bit of a cock. The affair with De Bruyne's girlfriend, the comments to Mignolet, the comments recently about Chelsea and the national team insinuating the youth players at Chelsea should not be training with the main team. Then there's the issue that he never fully committed to the club raising the possibility of returning to Madrid.

I am enjoying his struggles because he's like a spoilt child needing to be brought down a peg or two. Petr Cech led by example with his quality and led the dressing room. Courtois has the quality but he is a bad egg and in hindsight retaining Cech who would have retired there would have been better.

It's a big problem for Chelsea now. When Mourinho left the first time there was a strong spine and with quality added around it they were self-sufficient enough to go through different coaches. This lot haven't an ounce of fight in them.

What's his problem with Chelsea exactly? They got rid of a top 5 keeper in the world to put him in the team, has he had a fallout with someone?

Its does not take falling out with someone or anything that dramatic these days. Players like Hazard and Courtois have always been somewhat non-committal in their approach.

Cant fault him for wanting to leave either. The club decided to put a shit defense in front of him and there is no guarantee that the same wont be repeated next season.

You could say the same about big Dave though.
