I think Kagawa most forward on the left side of CM and Thiago on the right a bit further back, with Carrick as the pivot and most defensive behind.

and a front three of RVP, Zaha/nani and Rooney/or his Replacement?

if we need to attack then evra and Rafael, if we need more defense then Baines and Varela.

Varela more defensive than Rafael :wenger:

Ah. This is what muppetry is all about. That feeling just before it happens. Its like waking up on your birthday with new toys to look forward to.

Bask in the excitement, once we sign him tomorrow, we'll all be back to square one, look for our next signing to muppet over.

 I just came back from a meeting to 6 pages, of brilliance.

Could that really work in a classic 442.

a) Is Thiago hard enough like a Keane or Robson
b) Can Kagawa do any donkey work along with his silky skills?

Sounds like a dead sexy combo though. Especially if flanked with Zaha and Valencia. Very exotic 4-some!

 I was talking about both of them in a midfield 2. More like a midfield 3, ahead of Carrick. Or Kagawa on the left and Thiago with Carrick in a 4-4-2.

Lots of Spanish twatters posting now ... like they went nuts about 3 mins ago and suddenly 100 tweets in a minute)

I don't understand Spanish but I think the gist is they all think Thiago is leaving and they all crying into their early evening paella at the prospect of losing such a jewel.

Good!

I just kinda wish DDG had forced him to wear a United shirt in public at some point.

Where is TN when you need him to inject some negativity into the thread? I'm becoming too sure that this is going to happen.

My mates outside Old Trafford now and there is no sign of him, apparently. He has seen Glen Chapple though?

ThiagOFF

I expect DDG to be standing there at the press conference behind Moyes wearing a Matrix Agent style outfit.

feck sake, just went on Thiago's twitter and it still says on his bio "Barcelona FC player". Thiagoff.

El barça en vez de buscar a Rooney debe insistir más en Thiago Silva, eso es lo que necesita el equipo.

which google translates as

The barça instead of looking to Rooney should insist more on Thiago Silva, that's what the team needs.

seems to be a consistent message from the Barce Twatters. Not a happy bunch.

Guess it like them stealing Welbeck off us on a technicality for a low fee. Yeah, I'd be pissed.

Well it kind of did happen with Paul Pogba. He might not have had the clause but the two situations are remarkably similar ... and hopefully yields the same result!

In that instance, because of our absolute faith in SAF, we all said feck off Pogba you ungrateful git. I think SAF got that one wrong.

I'm sorry but i dont think they're similiar situations at all. Pogba was 18 when he left, after deciding he was deserved of playin all the time & also legged it for a bigger contract without barely kicking a ball for us. Thiago is 22 & naturally wants more games... Massive difference there!

Welbeck isn't in the same class IMO.

If this happens, it couldn't have happened to a nicer club. What they did with Fabregas was appalling.

I've never understood this all encompassing 'love-in' for FC Barcelona. Yeah so they play alot of tap dancing football hogging the ball from everyone else (And they are pretty good at that), but their players are cheats who dive all over the place and the way the club sometimes conducts its business leaves alot to be desired.

Personally, while they have undoubtedly been the most successful winning team of the past decade, I think their football is very boring and the 'aura' of the club is nothing special.

Yeah, was trying to think of a early 20s, homegrown, about to be world class player on our books and could not think of one. All our homegrown or young players from overseas are just the age bracket below.

I'd say nicking Hernandez off us would be a closer comparison, the age thing aside. Whereas there are still questions about whether or not Welbeck could be relied upon as a regular starter (what with his lack of goals), both Thiago and Hernandez only don't start because their respective teams have such silly quality to play ahead of them (Rooney and RVP for us; Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas for them).

Anyone who watches Thiago knows he's nailed on to be a star for any team that starts him in midfield, just as anyone who watched Hernandez knows he'd be scoring an absurd number of goals if he was someone's first-choice #9.

not exactly the same, but its the closest situation I could think off. You were right in your original post, with a player of that calibre, SAF would never have been so flippant or forgetful. I think Barce got abit arrogant about it and never believed the kid would ever dare leave. Not at 22. Fabregas and Pique left as teenagers, Thiago is is a very different phase of his career.

The highlights of their play are really good, but I can't watch them over 90 minutes. It's just too boring the way they hog the ball. Once they finally reach the oppositions penalty area, that's when it gets really good. But off the pitch, the way the club conducts itself during transfers is very irritating. Their players start 'tapping' the target.

Yeah, but its more the homegrown and national thing which adds emotional attachment. Barce are losing a homegrown Spanish player because there were arrogant or shoddy in their management.

I think I agree with Sammsky. I'm not comparing their character. Thiago seems ambitious, whereas Pogba seems like a bitter man everytime he is interviewed since leaving, though I understand why he left, because he was aching to play, and thought he was good enough to be doing so. He obviously got a bigger contract too, but so will Thiago if he comes here. Thiago also believes he's good enough to be playing, but has players in his way preventing that.

I don't think the two situations are that different other than one being a transfer, and the other leaving on a bosman. I bet Barca fans will think of Thiago the same way we think of Pogba if Thiago does join us.

I can agree with a good bit of that (the diving, the clubs lack of ethics) BUT they do win and that's what will be remembered 20 years from now when they are recruiting players to sign.

I hate when deals take so long, now my reaction to the whole thing is just 'meh'. :(

If we get him, five long years of midfielder drought will have been so worth it. Comfortably the most perfect solution that I've heard us linked with in that time.

Unnecessary big bold letters to look like big news when people scroll down the thread, pointless number £17.5 also added in the middle for further confusion.
