Sultan's post is like porn for the muppets.

I've always maintained Barcelona will not let go of Thiago with ease, in this thread. A message of loving a club whilst your still their player is rare these days from players. If you're negotiating a new contract it weakens your bargaining power.

Unless a new deal is already signed.

But it's a stupid thing to tweet when he is reportedly deciding his future at the moment.

Of course he can't have an opinion on Barcelona, a city famed throughout the world because he's linked with Manchester United.

Surely that would be hypocritical (I love Barca) after weeks of threatening to leave?

He may now have the deal he wants and is ready to sign, after using us as a bargaining tool of course.

Yet the man closest to Thiago's family has said Barca won't look to improve Thiago's deal.

That's a good point, didn't think of it that way but that's assuming he indeed meant the club and, personally, I think he meant the city and intentionally left it open to interpretation. Including 'FC' would've been easy or he simply could've used Barça. What it does for his negotiating stance? Could work both ways, could remind club fans he loves the city and would want to stay but might end up leaving because the club doesn't believe in him - at least that's one interpretation, I think. Rosell's popularity is already on the wane and perhaps losing Thiago would leave him open to a Laporta resurgence

It's odd timing though, give you that.

And definitely agree that Barcelona can't afford to let him go without fighting hard but what would it take, if anything to keep him?

Edit: Stevie Me?

Well, I guess it depends what he was after but he certainly wouldn't be the first player to do it.

That tweet cannot be positive for me.

I don't see why he would be trying to win people over in Barcelona, then a week later stab them in the back And leave.

Absolutely gutted but I suppose they have done everything possible to keep him, it's not a suprise really.

Back to plan b I suppose

That's a fantastic point. If you're bartering for a new rug in some Middle Eastern bazaar, you're not going tell the vendor about how much you love it before the deal is finally struck.

In the absence of any confirmation from either Barca or Thiago's agent, that picture may mean very little in terms of the where he'll be playing next season.

I think it's looking more and more likely that he has used United to draw Barcelona's attention and show them that he won't hesitate to leave if they don't play him. I think it's fairly certain that he'll get his share of games now that Vilanova knows that fans want him to stay and are pissed at his lack of appearances next season, he feels comfortable in the city and is playing for one of the best clubs in the world. I'll be very surprised if we manage to sign him.

For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?

I'll see your T. S. Eliot and raise you Gerard Manley Hopkins:

Hope had grown grey hairs
Hope had mourning on
Trenched with tears, carved with cares
Hope was twelve hours gone

:(

That's all assuming that the deal hasn't been struck yet. Perhaps negotiations went well and he's declaring his love for the city in an attempt to further smoothen the process?

Exactly. That tweet to me says he has got the offer from Barca he wanted and is ready to sign.

Add him to the benzema/moura/hazard/ronaldinho list :(

In that case, why not just say the contract has been signed? Presumably because he's been told not to let the cat out of the bag. But this post is kind of doing that anyway.

Barca don't run as tight a ship as United when it comes to press leaks. If there's nothing semi-officially out by tomorrow afternoon, I think the thiagometer will be closer to us than Barca. I'm going to wait before I give up completely.

Interpreting the message is assumptions on our part. If this transfer was ever going to happen the message is open to different interpretations as discussed already. Don't lose hope, or sleep.

I envy those who still retain hope. They probably live a happier life than me.

You're falling into the predictable trap of "facts to fit the theory rather than theory to fit the facts".

If he had signed a contract it would have already been announced to put an end to this speculation.

Will be interesting to see how many of the media outlets decides to jump on it and quote sources saying he's now staying.

What's Hunter saying?

Hunter's last tweet about Thiago was how Barca won't offer him an improved contract, so if he's not talking shit, then Thiago is simply just opting to stay with allegedly no improved terms and no promise of more time on the pitch.

I'd be elated if we sign him, and it won't certainly be end of United as a great club if he fails to sign. Why lose our sleep?

Don't fall into the trap that Graham has an inside pipeline to Barcelona management any longer, it's simply not the case

Take this ye negative Nancy:

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

With that Instagram message I'm more convinced than ever he is on his way out of Barcelona. Thiago likely trying to win hearts and minds of Barca fans (PR)?

Stroke that beard harder please. We need to know more!

Not gonna lose any sleep... I'm just disappointed. He would have been a perfect fit and it's hard to imagine how we can get a CM who's as good as him for such a low price.

We never even made an attempt to get Vidal or Javi Martinez, both of whom would have been great and now we're missing out on Thiago as well. I'm just desperate for a really good centre mid now but it seems like it'll never happen. Well, not this summer anyway.

Why does everyone assume he must sign a new deal if he's to stay at Barca? He's probably already on high enough wages.

I don't think it was ever suggested he had insider knowledge of Barca management, but it is claimed he is a close friend of the Alcantara family, and United contacted him directly to contact Thiago
