I kind of agree. The style of play was in place before he came in as were most of the major players. This Bayern team won't even prove his worth unless he stays long enough to dismantle the existing team and build another top side.

Playing for United exposes you to a wider audience, and it's reflected in the massive TV revenue. Why do people undermine United's pedigree so much? On an United forum non the less.

Bayern have something like 23 national titles and 5 European cups. They're at least as big a club as us.

Shteve Mclaren could've won trophies with that Barca team. He hasn't proven as much as people would assume in my opinion.

But Frank Riijkard finished in the third position and got eliminated by us, having that same team.

Not in regards to fan base, global appeal, marketing potential or revenue.

Their revenue is only 20m lower than us. Why does Thiago needs to care how many Asians watch more United than Bayern? In Europe the fanbase is similar, and both teams have full big stadiums.

True. On the other hand, they have won more, have a better team and have a better coach (unless Moyes proves otherwise). They're also located in the financial hub of Europe, surrounded by mega-rich companies willing to give them money. Plus they're hardly a small team in terms of fan base or global appeal either.

Well the comparison was made that they are at least as big a club as we are. To be honest, Thiago won't care who the 'bigger' club actually is, other factors will determine his decision and therefore this particular comparison is almost irrelevant anyway.

I agree that they're a better team currently but the draw for him to come to us involves both footballing factors as well as possibly financial rewards. Who he perceives the bigger club to be won't determine the outcome.

Because there is no need to say everytime that United is the biggest club in the world. It doesn't make us better fanse, neither it changes the fact that we're not the biggest club in the world. I have said that the entire idea of the biggest club in the world is a bit ridiculous, but anyway Real Madrid is the nearest to that 'title' if such a thing exist.

Bayern historically is a bit more successful than United, have a much better team, have just won the treble and have Pep. How are we 'bigger' then them? By saying that we just are the biggest in the world, repeatedly?

If Thiago joins us, more likely is because he has more chance of starting for us then for Bayern and/or we have a more serious deal, not because we are the biggest-est club ever ever.

Good post.

Real Madrid are bigger tha us but Real, Barca, Bayern and ourselves are at that highest tier imo. No need for him to go to Bayern unless Guardiola wants to convert Martinez to a cb which would be somewhat of a waste.

I agree with everything Revan has sad it wil come down to playing time not club size especially when dicussing Europe's biggest clubs. I feel currently we are behind Real, Barca and Bayern at when it comes to attracting players. If Guardiola can convince he will play he will go there he won't look and think ooh I can't get in once the manager has promised him he will play but few managers can guarantee that especially with a team as good as Bayern's .

I avoid superlatives--and cliches--like the plague. I too think they're ridiculous. Right now both Bayern and Madrid are a more attractive destination than United, but we are not far off. Our last game against Madrid was very close, remember? These things go in cycles. We'll could be a better footballing team than those two in the future.
My post was directed towards people who throw in the towel after they hear Bayern and Real are after them.

This man clearly knows his onions.

I feel when it comes to luring players Madrid and now Barca are quite comfortably top especially with players from anywhere other than the Uk where United have a better chance but anywhere else we are behind those teams.

It's not specifically about who has teh most fans in Asia, far from it. But for me how "big" a club is basically means how "famous" they are. And I think we still shade Bayern on that.

It's true that their superior team at the moment means that we don't ahve much advantage over them in player-appeal, but the idea that we are suddenly powerless because a "bigger club" may be interested is daft. That was my original point.

We are bigger than Bayern and have been for a while now... They might have a better team at the minute but to be honest that could still be debatable. We will see if we ever meet up.

That's ok, me too. I still think that we are clear favorites to get him if he decides to leave. Nothing to do with who is the 'bigger' club though

Actually thinking twice, we're 6 times bigger than you. After all, we won the latest UCL six years after you did.

Bayern and probably Chelsea are also ahead of United when it comes to attracting certain type of players.

fixed for chavvy accuracy. If you can name one player who choose Chelsea over us for footballing reasons then I'll concede the point.

How? And they have a better team, nothing to debate there at all.

If it came to strikers right now, Chelsea would probably be more attractive then United given the competition. Same with our history with attacking midfielders and playing them on the wing...

I don't know there are a lot of nations whose players seem to prefer the PL over the Spanish league, French and Dutch players for example or most African and Asian nationalities as well as north Americans seem to prefer the PL over La Liga.

South/middle American as well as Portuguese players on the other hand gravitate more towards La Liga, of course in parts due to the fact that it's easier for them because of the language but I think as well because the cultural differences are smaller and the climate is pretty similar.

Italian and German players usually don't leave their domestic leagues in big numbers but if they do I don't think there is a preference towards Spain or England in any way.

Not with top strikers. If a top player wanted to come to either United or Chelsea and money was no issue then United would be first choice. Also, our manager has changed so I imagine the second point is probably now null too.

I didn't say it was for footballing reasons, but I did mention London and Mourinho.

London over Manchester is a shite reason and as much of a cop out as money. I can see Mourinho being a draw to some players, but not more-so than all of what goes with United.

I'll agree that a non United/Chelsea fan, who is offered the same wage and play time, will more likely choose United than Chelsea (eventhough we don't have SAF anymore). Don't think this is the case with Bayern, Barca and Madrid though

Bayern is debatable. I'll concede that a lot of players, particularly from South America would prefer to play in Spain. The language is either the same or similar enough to pick up easily, the weather is much better and the football is easier (La Liga).

Maybe, but in terms of competition for places, they'd be a starter easily for Chelsea up top whereas for United they'd have to contend with RVP, Rooney and still Hernandez on the bench. With regards to managers, Mourinho is a more attractive option that Moyes for pretty much any player apart from ex-Everton players, or maybe Barca players (Thiago ).
Like it or not, history doesn't mean much for players when picking teams, it's mostly about playing time and money, and chance to win trophies, and Chelsea has as much a chance to win trophies as United does.

More famous, bigger fan base probably. It's subjective but I'd agree with that logic. Big for me is all about the scale of the club. How many eyeballs it attracts, how people are drawn to it. United are as big as it gets in terms of those things. But, like I said, it's subjective. Real have generally been the biggest draw for players so if that's the parameter you go by then it's them.

Bayern have just won the treble and have the best team in the world. They have more chance to win trophies in next season then us, though no-one knows what will happen in football. Madrid had always had their aura and players wanted to go there, despite the majority of them failing (especially the young ones). In recent years players went nuts for Barca and wanted to go them despite having pretty much guaranteed the bench. United is still a great option though, but likely not as much as when we had SAF. Of course this will change when Moyes start winning important trophies (May).

I'm not just talking about this summer Revan. I'm talking about all the time. Bayern are great at the moment and are a huge draw, but over twenty/thirty years the biggest draws will be Madrid, Barca, United IMO.

I don't believe that at all. We have a vastly superior squad, a superior first team and if we manage to sign Thiago we will have a superior midfield too which was the only area that we had a significant deep weakness. We have a much better chance of winning trophies than Chelsea next season.

What does it mean more famous? I think that everyone who watch football know about both United and Bayern. We had our holy trinity, Schmeichel, Giggs, Ronaldo etc but Bayern had equally brilliant players (Beckenbauer, Breiner, Kahn, Muller, Rumennige etc). Bayern have 2 European main trophies more than us, and three domestic trophies more. Their stadium is full all the time, and I really doubt that which club has a bigger fanbase in Asia (considering that United is the biggest in UK, Bayern the biggest in Germany and pretty much at a level in Europe).

Put it this way. If Messi was to leave tomorrow and both United and Bayern had bids accepted. Which club would he pick? I'd go out on a limb and say United. Simple.
