Thiago Alcantara | Signed for Bayern Munich

I agree. Nailed on for Bayern or Madrid sadly. Even though it makes more sense for him to join us, one of those two clubs will put a last ditch bid in, promise him first team football and it'll be Hazard all over again... "I'm joining the European champions"...

Yeah - he's bound to want to go to Bayern and sit on their bench like he has at Barca.

Some of the comments on here are ridiculous. United have every chance of signing him - we play in a top league, pay top money and can offer him first team football.

Transfers can take weeks, if not months to sort out by the way. Its not like football manager.

Nah, he may as well stay at barca if he chose one of them clubs. He is coming to us!

Bayern have a super packed midfield with Gustavo, Kroos, Martinez, Schweinsteiger etc. They just bought Götze for big money and have plenty of attacking players as well. Highly doubt they would go for another midfielder who could play in both positions where they are well stocked

I'm sure the Madrid rumours are nonsense, though I don't think he'd have that tough a job of getting into the team as he does at Barca or would have at Bayern Munich. Considering he's seemed to claim that his ambition isn't to succeed with Barca but to succeed in football seems to suggest that his emotional attachment to Barca is relatively minimal, so I don't think he'd have any personal qualms moving to Madrid, though if the rumours are true, I do hope that Barca just simply refuse to do business with Madrid.

And I'm just purely speculating based on what he's said in the past. He might proper love Barca.

Barca can do feck all to prevent him goin there tbh due to most irritating term that i'm sick to death of - "release-clause"

Maybe he won't sit on their bench? It makes logical sense for us but Pep may have other plans.

He'll sign for United. Why is it taking ages? It's the nature of the beast. People saying he'll go this club or that club when there's barely enough rumor about it to fill two lines. Talking about letting your fear do the talking. Calm down, relax and you'll see.

Hazard and Thiago, if he ditches us, are entirely different. Thiago isn't lining up a move to one of football's moneybags but to one of the 4 most prestigious clubs in world football. He'll be choosing one giant over the other, and I doubt money is his primary motivation. His primary motivation is Spanish NT, and he will move where he thinks he'll get the best chance to get a call up. Starting regularly for Bayern or Madrid, if either of them promise him that, will seemingly give him more of a chance for a call-up than starting regularly for us, as Real are Real and at Bayern he'll be playing under Guardiola. Not to mention, playing for these two clubs will give him more chance of success on European stage at club level too, as we still appear to be a little short, even with him in the squad.

The editor of the Norwegian fan club of Barcelona rates Thiago, to say the least. Google translate, with some minor necessary corrections on my behalf:

Do you think that Thiago now ends up at United?
- There has been much back and forth with Thiago. To be quite honest I have no idea what's going on. Thiago is looking for regular playing time, he's not getting that in Barcelona. He has players like Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and Cesc, all of which are higher priority than Thiago, in front of him. There are only three places and the math is simple. He is the youngest of his players on the first team and has not been played as much as he wants. In addition, he was also injured last season.

Will you be disappointed if he leaves the club or you can understand it due to lack of playing time and competition?
- I will be very disappointed if he leaves the club. He has been one of my favorites since he played for the B team and has tremendous skills and a talented team can not afford to lose. I understand that he wants playing time, but he can play enough to evolve, I mean. He must be more patient and take the chances he gets.

Is Thiago really the natural successor to Xavi in the Barcelona squad?
- Thiago has high quality passing game , like Xavi. I would think that his reading of the game will grow more and more over the years. In addition, he is stronger and faster than Xavi, as he has great advantages there. In my eyes he is the perfect successor. The technique is sublimely, and if he becomes colder out there, so he probably freeze solid in the grass. MEANING HE'S COOL AS ICE.
- The weakness is probably that he sometimes plays on excessive risk, which leads to fracture and break in at the defensive half.

If he ends in the United - think Thiago is a success?
- He's guaranteed a success. I find it hard to imagine anything else. Skills of Thiago got a taste of the summer's Under-21 Championship, where he was named the tournament's best player. He has already been highly appreciated by the Barcelona fans and that he at all is rumored away has come as a great shock to most.

For United fans - you will think that he is the best in Carrick's role as a central midfielder or more offensively?

- He has qualities of both offensively and defensively on the field. I think he is as good middle as he is an aggressive, forward midfield position. He has by and large replaced Xavi when he has been unavailable, which I think suits him very well.

There is a release clause at less than 20 million euros. What do you think his value is?
- Looking at the pricing of similar players such as Neymar, I think he is worth around £45-55 million. I probably would not let him for a penny less.
- It's just a shame that the clause in his contract is like that as it is, meaning that we can lose one of our greatest talents since Messi on the cheap. It is simply sad and evidence of weak leadership, without me to speculate too much into it. Real value is one thing, but it is the market and what other teams are willing to pay that must be the basis for the valuation here. Had I been the manager for United and Thiago had not had the clause, so I had easily taken him for twice if possible. He's that good.

stinks of a repeat of the Sneijder saga for me. Every man and his dog telling us to be patient and the deal is done... nothing happens.

Christ, there are some babies on here! You are going to have to get on with your lives if he goes elsewhere.

Anyway, there is always Strootman. I heard that he did a nice sliding tackle in the 2010/11 season. It is all good!

I was going to put a 10pound free bet on him to go to Bayern at 16/1 earlier, Hunter tweeted that and they halved the odds. Cnut.

The kid is still on bloody holiday, no wonder the rumours are going mental. This always happen when there is time to speculate.

Guardiola has said himself he will buy any Barcelona players and that he is happy with the squad. I still think this will happen but the rumours are to be expected.

Except he probably doesn't have the high wage demands to go along with the high transfer fee.

Hunter said Thiago is on a cruise. Can't imagine he's glued to skype or a fax machine, signing contracts and agreeing to terms. Other clubs can express an interest, but all the reports suggest Mazinho and Thiago want United. I always thought he would either be a United or a Barca player before the end of the window. I just can't see him going elsewhere.

Surely there'd be less chance of game time at Bayern, if that is Thiago's main criterion?

At Bayern there's Schweinsteiger, Martinez, Kroos, Gustavo, Tymoshchuk. Then they also have Goetze now, so those "three" places behind the striker will be subject to fierce competition as well.

Yeah, it would make zero sense for him to go to Bayern.

But that doesn't mean he won't. Dunno, I'm also sceptical now. He's a Spanish international playing for Barcelona and he's a central midfielder. We just don't sign this kind of player. He might just stay at Barca in the end.

He he, some currency issues above. Edited.

For the past month he has been heavily linked with United but now that Hunter says Guardiola made contact with him a month ago, it's off? Despite the fact that the very same Hunter reported that Thiago's camp met with United to discuss terms only a week ago.

We need to summon the Muppet King himself to utter some soothing words.

It does but this time it's different. We don't know what Moyes has been up too and Barcelona are probably trying to save face. We'll just have to suffer and if the worst comes to the worst the mods will have to delete this thread and we can all feign amnesia :)

You guys should relax. United won't bring anyone in until Moyes arrives and is unveiled. Simple.

Saying that previously, it always felt like ages away, but now it's only this coming Monday. It will be quite exciting for the Moyes era to finally kick in.

Back when the season ended, I did think we'd have a couple of signings already nailed on before Moyes was unveiled. At least a 'big' signing.

It's about this time that Fergie usually comes out and says that he's happy with the squad and doesn't really look to add anyone, except maybe a young player or two and perhaps a centre-back, you can never have enough of those.

Will Moyes continue the tradition?

Think about it. Who would stand next to the player with his shirt, sit with him at the press conference and blow smoke out of his arse?

The club has lost both SAF and Gill.

None of our transfer activity is going to be sealed before Monday after Moyes has had his first press conference. Then we can crack on with things. If the deal is done behind the scenes do you think every day there will be an update?

This time next week he will be a United player.

Watching the videos of his skills has me wondering why the opposition players stand there and look at him. It's like they never press at all. Do they even want to take the ball?

I love how yet again this thread has practically U-Turned from "We are definitely getting him" to "hes going the Madrid, the cnut" with zero official news or announcements.

I didnt chooes the muppet life....the muppet life chose me.

If you look at those same videos you will see he has very quick feet and there are times when players go for the ball and he simply moves it out of reach. You only ever try and get the ball when you know 100% you can win it, otherwise you hold.

Lots of clubs announce deals before officially presenting the player. Case in point: Bayern and Götze. Or Barcelona and Neymar.

We could have agreed the deal by now if Thiago had really wanted to come to us. Most likely he hasn't made up his mind yet, still considering the offers from Bayern and Barcelona as well.

They do the same with Nani. They are afraid of his quickness and technical ability.

It doesn't just choose you, it takes over you!

Do you remember when you PM'd me a month ago being a transfer muppet. How things have changed that I've joined you on this quest.

Hunter reckons Tito has spoken to Thiago, and there's no chance of an improved contract, so it's all down to Thiago wanting to stay, with no improvement for Thiago on the situation there.

How can this be anything other than ON?!
