Of course he wouldn't. Its all about a contract renewal, he's not going to get the one he wants if they know he has no plans to leave

When the rumours started in May the reports were all that Barcelona were putting him up for sale. Catalan press seemed quite accepting of it actually. Him wanting out for the WC/playing time was actually just a later development of the story.

I don't even know what I believe anymore! I don't think its about a new contract though.

I have been traveling for three days. The thread has grown almost 40 pages during this time. So whats the latest on this lad?

Nothing has changed, decision is still in the pretty much in the hands of Thiago/Mazinho. If he really wants to come here then we'll get him.

This thread is on the cusp of beating the Hazard thread. What cometh next?

Promising

Re. Thiago. A few more hurdles to overcome before we complete. Have just heard. No reason to panic though.

I heard Barca are eyeing Pjanic. Is it a panic attempt to replace Thiago?

It might be a case of going through your whole career, wondering if you just weren't good enough to make it at Barca. If he does leave, we all know that is something that will be leveled at him by rival fans.

if he does come, its not like hes moving to a next tier team like arsenal or chelsea. if he comes and is succesful, i.e a couple of premier leagues and cups and manages to feature more internationally then he'll never look back. barcelona are not the pinnacle of football.

Yes: it's about that time of year when some sad twat posts a 'Do We Really Need a Transfer Forum?' thread because they're pissed off that threads like this one take up that all-precious, life-nourishing attention.

I've been considering that thread all day.

Has it even been a week since the writing on the ball thing? He's now on holiday having just come off international duty. Maybe if you stopped sitting in here all day you will realize it hasn't been long at all.
Except he was supposedly off a long time before the ball.

this transfer is so strange. people are acting like its almost certain to happen or at least far along in negotiating yet no club has said anything official and its never made it even onto the bbc website, who usually post all sorts. in fact, the main source above all else has been graham hunter.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there have been numerous quotes fom Barca staff about his potential leaving, plus pleas for him to stay from Xavi and Pique.

The player himself saying he is undecided on his future, and his father saying Manchester United are interested. Add on top of that, that the Spanish press are reporting this heavily and I'd wager to guess we are at the very least interested.

There's definitely something to this rumour, I think that's safe to assume. Also, the fact we've not been linked with any other creative midfielder would lead me to believe this is advancing positively.

i do believe theres truth in here somewhere but even the xavi quotes about being patient and so on dont neccesarily indicate a transfer, and not to man utd either. i must have missed anything concrete from the player himself other than the "we'll see" type rubbish players generally spout. the biggest player in all of it seems to be mazinho, has there actually been a quote from him saying "he wants to go to united" or is there just twitter speculation that "mazinho will tell barcelona his son wants to join united." if this transfer was 5 years ago we wouldnt even be talking about it yet.

If it was 10/15 years ago we wouldn't talk about any of them at all, we'd just find out about them when they happened.

The good old days.

maybe it was just me, but veron came out of absolutely nowhere.

The transfer rumour mill has definitely kicked into overdrive in recent years, mostly due to the abortion that is Twitter/social media. This Thiago thing is a good example of it, and this thread a good example of the effect it has on people. All the rushing highs when something positive is tweeted, followed by the crushing lows when someone tweets something less positive.

It's a strange phenomena.

Hmmm perhaps you are right.

Don't forget the writing on the ball though!

We shall see, if it turns out to be complete bollocks. Which it may well do, I think we should spread rumours that Graham Hunter puts gerbils up his rectum and sully his name.

Read Graham Hunter's book about Barca....

there are some comparisons with Xavi - we were close to signing him back around the start of the 00's i think - he decided to stay

he didn't have the competition Thiago does now though - Xavi's problem was with a board who brought in players like Rochemback/Cocu/De Boer rather than use players from La Masia

I just hope we have done all we can to convince him Old Trafford is the place for him - if it's meant to be it will happen

gonna take a break from this thread - getting too frustrated with dozens of pages of hearsay

It was just you. It was a bit of a saga that included a hearing in Italy because his passport was fake and he could have received a long ban, which he didn't. Took some time until that deal was finally done.

There were no twitter updates every 5 minutes in those days though. You read about the rumour in the paper at work, then swapped papers with your mate and read a slightly different take on the same rumour.

It's bollocks. You have through about 15 pages of "Muppet lololol xD" and shite ITK's to get any bit of news
