That's the thing, nothing will change the squad for WC14 under Del Bosque...particularly in terms of the midfield. Only an injury or superlative performance even over the next 6 months but even then it won't displace the first 6 or 7 midfielders ahead of him. That won't change whether he stays at Barcelona or starts for United.

I think a World Cup year just provides a convenient get-out for a player who wants to be playing more. It legitimizes the player's decision and is a lot less messy than going on strike or using the media to force a move. Plus, it's certainly true that another season like the one just gone won't help Thiago's cause, and there's no reason to think he'll suddenly get more game time while the same names are in front of him. He might not get in the WC squad, but he has a better chance if he's playing at the top level every week and pretty much no chance if he has another season as a squad player.

Oh should have waited for Olly's post. Is any bored soul willing to do it?

Go on Dave
De Gea: "Whosoever of United would like to have a partner like Thiago"

Speaking at the airport of Barajas, David de Gea, the goal of the 'Red Devils' of Old Trafford, has insisted that "hopefully next season have a Spanish partner in the team. Me, as a player of Manchester United I would hope to have a partner like Thiago, who is very good "

Dave is a fully fledged muppet, he knows things shouldn't be confirmed and instead sagas should be let run. It's part of the summer experience.

That would imply that its not a done deal, and that message on the ball was more of a dig by DDG to get his mate to join him at United, rather then proof that's where he's decided to go...:(

That's what's made the most sense all along, really.

I'm just being a muppet like the rest of you, but I haven't actually taken any thought into the potential this guy could actually bring us! Just the fact that we may possibly sign one of the best young CM prospects going is enough, but for the future and what he could actually bring to our team, god now that is something to think about.

I doubt Dave would be going that far if it was either a)not happening at all or b)definitely happening.

David de Gea: "We've spoken about it jokingly, but Barça know they have a star and I don't think they'll let him go."
Even our Dave doesn't understands buyout clauses.

I love how we aren't even discussing his ability or potential anymore. Just 100% muppetry.

You have to applaud Dave's work ethic. He's doing single-handedly what for Barcelona's players is normally a team job. Bit disappointed he hasn't assaulted Thiago with a United shirt yet though.

Gotten to the point that its so obvious we are signing him that we will forget to put in a bid and end up missing out.

It's surely happening. Comments from Dave like, 'I would love to have a Spanish partner at United' and 'we talked about it jokingly' really are massive hint that he very may well be coming.
