I think a World Cup year just provides a convenient get-out for a player who wants to be playing more. It legitimizes the player's decision and is a lot less messy than going on strike or using the media to force a move. Plus, it's certainly true that another season like the one just gone won't help Thiago's cause, and there's no reason to think he'll suddenly get more game time while the same names are in front of him. He might not get in the WC squad, but he has a better chance if he's playing at the top level every week and pretty much no chance if he has another season as a squad player.

Dave is a fully fledged muppet, he knows things shouldn't be confirmed and instead sagas should be let run. It's part of the summer experience.

Just the fact that we may possibly sign one of the best young CM prospects going is enough, but for the future and what he could actually bring to our team, god now that is something to think about.
