Thiago Alcantara | Pool bound

I somehow have: Thiago, VDB, Upamecano and Sancho in my head today as this summers transfer window for United.
If several deadwood players leave as well, it would be one of the best transfer windows ever

So Liverpool aren't getting him then? The fact they can't pull off seemingly straightforward transfers at times makes the job Klopp has done even more remarkable. Thiago wants to play in the Prem and would not cost that much, I hope we show an interest.

In fairness, they managed Salah, Mane, VD, Allison etc.
But the money seems to have dried up. That Coutinho money helped no end

Liverpool might be back in with the departures apparently underway at Barca. Koeman wants Gini and you would have to think that if that happens that would fund a move for Thiago. I am not sure that improves Liverpool as Gini does a lot of grunt work in that midfield and is full of running.

FSG are fecking tight cnuts. This guy is a steal. If another club signs him, Liverpool fans should rightly lose it.

Why would a random Norwegian journalist and Jan Åge have the inside of a major transfer like this? I don’t believe it. Who is their source? Smells like bullshit

His transfer committee has done a wonderful job. I'm sure he's greatly work their work rather than it being something he's succeeded inspite of.

Yeah annoyingly this deal will be an absolute formality for them once Wijnaldum gets sold to Barca

I think Thiago would want more pay, he's in the prime years of his career and one of the best midfielders in the world, he'd never take a pay-cut.

I think Liverpool can't afford his wages and a 30M fee.

A player on 150k a week is on around 7.5M a year, thats approaching 40M before you are even talking about agent fees, and a signing on bonus.

Liverpool I really don't think can pull off Thiago, they couldn't sign Werner, in total the outlay for someone like Thiago would be 50M with all fees, its really not as cheap as just the fee which many people just see, Liverpool will also be looking to renew some of the players in their prime, and they'll be requiring loyalty bonuses in their contracts too.

In the midst of a second wave there's a reason why Liverpool aren't in the market, the board I'm assuming are thinking they won the league comfortably so they don't need additions.

I fully expect Liverpool to finish behind City and Chelsea next year given their lack of depth, and how strong Chelsea are now, Thiago Silva for Chelsea is a big signing in terms of defensive leadership too.
Liverpool is a well oiled machine and don't need any additions this season, so assuming they'll be behind in two years is foolish, they may add next season, Pep may be sacked and Lampard is yet to prove anything.

I don't see this one happening but if it does it would be a good thing.
  1. Matic would be excellent cover for Thiago.
  2. Greenwood would be excellent cover for Sancho.
  3. Van de Beek would be excellent cover for Bruno.
If funds really do allow it, we could strengthen at CB as well, but conceding goals wasn't our problem last season (except for De Gea's howlers, which hopefully will not be repeated this season) and if all we did was strengthen RW and two midfielders as proposed we're definitely in the conversation for major trophies.

Only thing I will say is that you only need to look at how many points City dropped in the first half of last season to see the cost of not having a good enough defence

I know this. I am Norwegian myself ffs

Ole would never talk about this with either of these two guys. So therefore I wonder who their source is. I just don’t believe a random Dagbladet journo would get a scoop like this.

He seems to have gotten more United news right ever since Ole joined, claims of early match lineups etc.

They might have a common friend that lets him on stuff via Ole.

So does Thiago actually.

But people say this journalist knows his United stuff

I really don't understand where does he fit in or why would we be interested. We aren't thin in that position, we have youth prospects there, he's 29, has had a lot of injuries and we won't play the diamond. Fred & McTominay & Matic are perfectly good midfielders and we have a more pressing issues on the wing and across the defensive line.

One 'new' problem that developed late on was our left side. Shaw went down. And then Rashford was very blunt. Another area to look at though I suppose Sancho would be a solution for that too.

Those 3 are not “perfectly good midfielders” - unless by “perfect” you mean “good enough for top 4”. Thiago is head and shoulders better in every component of the game and will instantly improve our starting XI, let alone depth. Then, we may immediately sell any one of McTominay or Fred And recoup the transfer fee

I'd understand the move if we had other positions sorted, but for now a left back or a centre-back are much more needed.

You should have a source too then!

All things up until recently have pointed to him having his heart set on a move to the scousers so the club will definitely want to see whether or not that's still the case before proceeding any further with this.

True, and I'm the first to want to address all needs right away but I just don't see us having the transfer budget to do everything we really need to do in a single transfer window. Although Martial and Greenwood finished the season strong I'm not convinced they and Rashford will fire on all cylinders throughout the season. A stronger front six (adding Sancho, VDB and Thiago) substantially lessens the burden on the back four. And if De Gea can back to his old ways I'm feeling pretty good about what was accomplished during the summer transfer window.

Think a LB will be next summer and there has been some definite noise around Upamecano today so maybe Utd are thinking of going in for him before that release clause is activated

We are absolutely not signing Thiago. Just our name being used. He will go to Liverpool for sure.

Oh yeah there is no doubt those three would be a quality window, would be prepared to wait for Upamecano if we can secure him next summer but there will be a lot more competition at that low price

I actually think we’re interested but there’s no chance he ends up here, Liverpool bound even if they’re ridiculously tight.

Apparently he usually doesn't play more than about 25 games a season.

So we in for

Thiago
Upamecano
Sancho

with VDB looking done, I reckon we will just end up with one more, maybe Sancho and another defender instead.

If we get all that done I will be seriously impressed. Not a hope though.

I think Thiago and Upamecano are just hopefuls, one of those transfers where we end up being interested as a gamble and end up failing. Something doesn't sit right at the thought of them joining us.

This place is very amusing really. Do people actually think Woodward will sign an injury prone 30 year old footballer at 30 million? I am not his biggest fan but his modus operandi is to invest in young footballers with a resale value. Why would he spend 30 million on a 30 year old crock, and fail to top up 70 million on that to buy a talented 20 year old footballer. Sometimes I just feel like people just like putting themselves through unnecessary heartache. Bayern using Uniteds name to hurry up Liverpool, classic transfer move. We do that all the time. Thiago is Liverpool bound. Klopp doesn't rate him at 30 million but in the end he will be a Liverpool player. What value would Thiago add to Manchester United today? He rejected United 5 years ago and that was the end of it. There is more chance of us signing Messi than Thiago because I can see the value that Messi would bring to Manchester United that Woodward can not resist. Good player Thiago but with VDB signed i wonder where he would fit in the team

I think we will sign Thiago only if Pogba leaves. Otherwise midfield is not an issue this summer after vdb.
