The World Cup Final: France vs Croatia (Kickoff 16H00 BST)

Congrats to the french posters here, they were very graceful after losing the final 2 years ago so they deserve this.

Croatians should hold their head high. Got very unlucky in the first half and in the way the game went. Getting to a WC final is no small feat for such a small country.

I’ll say it again, I doubt very much any French person cares that they didn’t just play “sexy football” to win the World Cup, not one. Croatia were that great, that dominated they lost 4-2 to a rubbish team.
You can spin it the way you want, even include the French person. Pint is the ref had a big role to play in the outcome and that's never desirable. Nothing to do with not playing sexy football.

Congratulation to all of our French caftards. Enjoj your great day. Dont drink and drive.

Unfortunately, I predicted month ago France will win it. Had no idea we will get this far. But, not so sad at all. Very proud of our boys. Made whole country happy, hope our shite politicians will learn something from it.
Now, back to rakija :D

De Jong on Alonso? That was criminal assault
Yep. That one with VAR probably he would have had ti right, but the other big decision (not sending Pyoul off) nope, considering that it was clear that he just chickened out to make that decision.

I can tell you from my experience with Portugal, no chance

But you should definitely be proud of the boys. Great tournament.

Ah..... yes that run by Robben.. he should still have scored though... but that was a clear foul and red since puyol was the last defender and Robben was through on goal

Surprised to see some posts here claiming Croatia was the better side. France set up in a low block and did everything their tactics worked perfectly. Executing on tactics is what separates winners from losers, not percentage of possession.
All sounds sage in hindsight. The goals were why they would keep the low block and counter which suited them, on the balance of play they weren't the better team.

Weird final, as many of France games during this WC. They were pretty dull and yet they won pretty comfortably. Croatia gave it all, but they were clearly tired after 3 ET wins.

To tell you the true was better than the Argentina-Germany in Brazil and the first half France was playing `a la Santos but in the second half they played better.
France played great all tournament. I just don’t care at all for the way they play. It sucks any excitement out of the game. The World Cup might as well have been a long montage of corners, penalties and free kicks. Anything else didn’t matter.

at that time only Italy would play defense but I never forget that final, I was in a wedding and normally we Portuguese like Brazil but on that wedding was a few Brazilians who made fun of Portugal before the game...mistake  everybody screamed their lungs out anytime France scored.

For why reason? Portugal wasn't even in that WC and they were actually a likeable team. Figo, Rui Costa, Oceano, Couto... good team and got even greater in EURO 2000. I remember I liked to watch that team playing.

To make things worse, Pyoul was already on a yellow, so only a yellow (despite that it should have been a direct red) would have sent him off. Webb just chickened out there, no other justification for that.

Of course, in the end it kind of balanced that insane moment from De Jong.

What? Watch the replay again. Clear contact. Stop your bias from clouding your judgenent, multiple angles showed contact on his standing leg.
You're literally one of the only people ive seen who thinks that was a foul. Its whatever, free kicks get called off dives all the time, its just a point of frustration for the croatians because that was for sure a dive. He threw his leg off and started going down before any contact was made. The pen was 50/50, more a pen for me but the point is when its 50/50 it shouldnt go to VAR, only when its clear.

Anyway, France have had a very good tournament and are deserved winners in the end. Croatia was the better team in the final before Pogbas counter attack goal, but that goal ended it. Before that, france didnt really do anything but were in the lead largely with the help of the ref. It happens, croatia have every right to be frustrated while France obviously dont give a feck. You need that luck in the end.

No, too hot for rakija today, i prefer bjielo vino :)

Is Putin delivering a novichok laced trophy?

Congrats to our French residents in here, deserved winners. You will be the team to beat in the Euros no doubt and I am delighted that Pogba has been integral to this campaign.

Read a Giggs interview somewhere where he mentioned he scouted both Jesus and Mbappe and we could have signed him for 5m back then.

The replay from behind makes it pretty clear that it was a foul.

Why though? For big decisions it is the best thing to give all the tools to the ref to make the right decision. If he still fecks it up (I think that he made the correct decision today), then he is to be blamed.

Almost can't wait for the 'Mbappe World Cup' in 2022.
France needs to play better in 22, Brazil will be stronger and I know the caftards keep blasting England but they played really good against Belgium and if Kane and Dier scored the outcome could had be different and I didn't see much from Belgium besides Hazard, Kevin and Courtois, I think they will be in the group of favorites to win.
