Gaming The Witcher 4 | 6 MINUTE TRAILER! Drink it in boys and girls!

This is one of those times where you should actually learn about the subject you are discussing before you get all angry at people who clearly know more than you.

It's fine to love the game, but it's plain weird to defend it at all costs without knowing the history.

If we can't customise the Adam's apple, then I'm out.
And the ability to lower the pitch of the voice. Either we play with trans Siri or not at all. I aint playing a fully girl toon.

I am curious though what this means for the traditionally racy elements of the games.

What promises? I read a lot of people that echo this sentiment but no one gives actual specifics. If it's true that they didn't deliver on specific promises in terms of game content, specifically can you list for me those precise exact items which (a) they promised, and (b) did not make it in the game.

If you can name them and then find exact sources for where CD Projekt Red initially, or at any point, explicitly promised them, then great. Note: "Cd Projekt Red promised an RPG" doesn't count. It's too vague. It needs to be specific.

What was promised? What was left out?

Are you really expecting anyone to do that just for the sake of a brief conversation in the discussion thread of a different game on a football forum? This is not a reasonable thing to expect.

It shouldn't really mean anything for those moments so the reaction will be interesting if CDPR do the same thing with Ciri as the lead character

Reckon Geralt is going to get Joel’s (or Vesemir’d if you will). Please just let him be enjoying his retirement (with Triss, not Yen you heathens)
It would be boring if they made him the sad dad stereotype.

I hope he's a comedy character. He has gone off the rails after retirement. 30 stone, guzzling wine at Corvo Bianco every day and massively in Gwent-related gambling debt.

Yeah I hope you just bump into him in random places and are like "what are you doing here?" ... "Playing Gwent, X has a special card!"

Aren't you essentially describing the Bloody Baron?

I shouldn't be but I'm a bit surprised by the amount of people that are seemingly upset because they chose a female character. Ciri was the most natural character to replace Geralt and the alternative that some offer such as creating your own character is in my opinion the dumbest when these people can't shut up about preserving the lore and how woke developers don't.

It's true that several studios do weird things when it comes to the lore of a franchise but in this case CDPR seemingly went with the most conservative option which is great.

The only thing that people should be able to say is that Ciri died in their cannon. Personally, whatever I changed, Ciri always ended up as a Witcher. It was just the way the series should go.

Same for me Ciri ended up as a Witcher, so I forgot that she could die.

Refresh my memory, did one of the crones survive in the ending where Ciri became a witcher? If I remember right, she was killed only in the bad ending of the game. Could be fun to see her and Ciri meet again.

Ciri becoming a witcher was the neutral ending. The bad ending was her dying, and the good ending was her becoming Empress.

Edit: I guess it's ambiguous which is the good ending. I don't remember exactly how I got them.

Also an edit: Oh I completely misread your post. I think you're right, one of the crones is alive.

I never got the bad ending. So basically, anyone who got the bad ending is now screwed? That's actually a bit shit.

Only played through The Witcher 3 once, and I got the "bad" ending. Loved it though, even if it made me feel sad and empty at the time. It's excellent in its own way.

I got the empress ending on first playthrough and didn't really feel like it was the good ending. It felt like Ciri taking on a responsibility she never wanted, almost certainly leading to an unhappy life dealing with endless court politics and conspiracies. Based on Ciri's path throughout the books and in the game, it just doesn't fit.

Screwed how? If I remember correctly your Witcher 2 choices didn't matter for Witcher 3. It's not really that kind of series. They pick a canon ending, and that's that.

I don't particularly mind, but I understand how some gamers take what happened as what happened.

It's a stupid move letting ciri die in witcher 3 in any choice, if they want to make her the main stay of the next one.

Yeah this is true, in the bad ending where Ciri dies in W3, Geralt hunts the old crone that got away but now we know that ending isn't the real one. In every other ending the crone lives. Could be good seeing them face off again.

Yeah, she's not happy about becoming Empress at all.

It would water the game out if they couldn't make plot decisions without worrying about every single way of incorporating every decision into a possible sequel 15 years into the future. This way they can create the best possible Witcher 4. How long will Witcher 5 be in production if they had to account for all the possible choices in Witcher 3, and then all the possible choices in Witcher 4?

Yeah, if you import your save you’ll be stuck playing as Dandelion being a brothel bard searching for a golden lute.

edit: that sounds fun, actually

Ciri as protagonist is a good choice especially as, judging by the trailer, they've done away with the powers that made her a cosmic force in TW3. Although I do wonder how they explain her undergoing the trial of grasses as she seems to have done.

Highly possible, if predictable, that the story line will be some journey to get them back. Works mechanically as well, can't exactly have her the overpowered force she was in Witcher 3, wouldn't exactly fit into gameplay progression.

Change of VA is the only jarring thing from that trailer.

Could also just explain that she lost them as part of her Trial of the Grasses and is fine with it because she wanted nothing more than becoming a witcher.

Yeah you had to be a deadbeat dad for that to happen though.
Don’t think that is the only way. My play-through I was overly protective of her and opted for her to stay back or do something else and I went solo, but then it turns out she doesn’t have the confidence to do what she needs to do and well she did not survive.

Over protective father for the loss. Anyway finishing up Cyberpunk then straight back over to the witcher and my beloved Gwent. Just imagine if there is no Gwent in Witcher 4. I just don’t think life would be worth living at that point.

Necessary though. Both Ciri's look and voice was perfect in Witcher 3 in the context of the daughter / muse of the main character. The shoes of the Witcher are big ones to fill though and there needs to be a certain complexity, maturity and fierceness in both the character model and performance from her in this one.

Yes, makes sense, years on the road, probably going through the trial of grasses, age, timbre of the voice will change and possibly the previous VA does not have the range.

Still weird on first listen even though fans will adapt quickly.

Wonder what will be out first, this or the Naughty Dog Sci-Fi game which has me equally intrigued.

Definitely Intergelactic imo. They’ve apparently been working on that since 2020 whereas cope were fully focused on Cyberpunk till 2022. I’m really excited about that one too. Both absolutely elite level game developers.

I'd tone down the enthusiasm for this. The main guys that created the witcher games are now gone, and I'm not impressed by the new recruits that have come in.

Unreal Engine 5 could be a challenge, especially with it's finicky nature towards shader compilation.

Perhaps with time longer than to 2025, it will be free of difficulties, but it's definitely interesting to see how they'll handle it.

Witcher 4 is some time off from the "let us cook" wording from the director and if ND are being true to their word they'll only announce games when close to completion now after previous mistakes.

I'd be shocked if Witcher 4 arrives before 2027 (and easily later). Which makes this trailer very poorly timed IMO. I guess they wanted to confirm that they were working on it, but I hope they learned from Cyberpunk and actually finish this one before they release it.
