Gaming The Witcher 4 | 6 MINUTE TRAILER! Drink it in boys and girls!

They deserve criticism for releasing it in that state but also praise for fixing it (because many developers would just let it rot) and in the end for creating a brilliant game.
No, they definitely don't. Nobody deserves credit for fixing something they released as broken. That's dumb.

Ciri looks fantastic. Of course the terminally online are upset about it.

It’s not dumb. I also give Hello Games credit for fixing and improving No Man’s Sky. It doesn’t mean that credit is anywhere close to the initial deserved criticism.

I don’t really give a shit either way. Both Witcher 3 (top 3 ever) and Cyberpunk (among my favourite of the last decade) are fantastic.

It's not dumb at all. The developers weren't pushing for the release, it was the suits.
 oh well then, CDPR as a company are saints again!

Credit is different to praise, though.

I think they implied previously that Geralt's story was done (though he might be back in a supporting role).

I was ambivalent about the idea of a Ciri game but having seen the trailer, I'm excited for it.

They announced it in March 2022

We knew. But nobody expected a trailer at this stage.

Not a real gamer

Public knowledge. We had a thread on it a while ago. They’re also doing a remake of Witcher 1.

Can’t wait to buy this, realise it’s a buggy mess wait a year then have an incredible gaming experience.
Witcher 3 is my favourite game ever.

Thanks guys, no idea how I missed it.

I didn’t there was much difference.

They’re not saints. They deserved all the criticism and to be made an example of, and it’s a lesson not to blindly trust anyone no matter what their image. But they are also just fanfeckingtastic at making video games, imo.

Also, CDPR just did what they've always done so will hopefully learn it's not acceptable now despite fixing it over the years. Witcher 3 was worse at launch if anything, I mean it wasn't even completable because of bugs.

They've just released a new update for Cyberpunk with new features and secrets (which some are bound to be Witcher 4 related with the timing) which has annoyed be a bit as I did another playthrough on what I thought was the final version.

No way, absolutely no way. I feel like anyone saying shit like this didn't play either at launch. The Witcher 3 had loads of bugs but was maybe the biggest ever open world came crafted by that point, ambitious beyond belief for 2015. Cyberpunk was an incomplete mess that delivered on none of their own promises, it was about half the size and length of The Witcher 3. They literally had to pull it from stores and re-release it a year later after refunding everyone.

It might depend on the platform I guess, but I played both at launch and have done since Witcher 1 all on PC.

Witcher 3 was a complete mess at launch though and widely known to be so? I had to wait for a bug fix to continue the story at one point.

Yeah, i got round to playing cyberpunk just as 2.0 got released and it was one of the more atmospheric gaming experiences i've had. The first set piece of the game was absolutely fantastic adrenaline inducing stuff.

I remember that bug, for sure, i didn't get it, I think @Solius did on here and it was funny.

But The Witcher 3 despite its bugs was a much more complete game than Cyberpunk was, is my point. The content was all there, everything they promised was there, it just had lots of messiness, though I didn't encounter much of it on the PC version myself. Cyberpunk was a whole other ball game of broken, it didn't even work on the PS4 or XBONE to the point where they had to refund everyone and pull it from the stores. it didn't have even half the content they promised, Night City was nothing like the sprawling open world they told us it would be, the police were a total shambles, everything was just completely half baked in it.

I'm glad they fixed it and people seem to love it now. I personally thought Phantom Liberty was fantastic, but having tried the base game again earlier in the year I still think it's a very meh game overall. The Witcher 3 though is a true classic and I hope the fourth lives up to it.

Oh sorry, yes in terms of content promised against delivered I agree. I was just thinking of bugs which I think CDPR have got away with mostly up until Cyberpunk

Yeah I’ll be starting my 5th and probably final play through at some point. I’m probably an addict at this stage.

Back to Witcher 3, I wonder what Geralt’s involvement in this. I hope he’s a decent part of it.

I played TW3 at launch and don’t remember any major bugs. I played Cyberpunk at launch and my car would clip through the map on the first mission.

Absolutely agree. They rightly got trashed for the initial state. But rather than abandon it they took the time and spent tens of millions to revamp it all. Rather than cut their losses and move everyone over to Witcher 4 or layoff a bunch of people they by most accounts completely reversed a nightmare release.

I mean they even issued a new patch this week when they said they were done after the last patch. I give them credit and the benefit of the doubt that they learned their lesson and wont try to rush out Witcher 4 to similar.

I can't remember the last time I was genuinely excited by a game announcement.

I don't generally like open world games that much but Witcher 3 might be my favourite game of all time, just spending time in that world was enjoyable, so much atmosphere in the setting. If they improve the combat and bring that same environmental quality it will be another stunning game.

After they fix the bugs.

Holy shit
Lets go…
Haven’t had a great game in a while.

I miss the time when big budget narrative driven games were released a lot more.

Predictions for what year this’ll be released?

I’ll go for 2029.

What promises? I read a lot of people that echo this sentiment but no one gives actual specifics. If it's true that they didn't deliver on specific promises in terms of game content, specifically can you list for me those precise exact items which (a) they promised, and (b) did not make it in the game.

If you can name them and then find exact sources for where CD Projekt Red initially, or at any point, explicitly promised them, then great. Note: "Cd Projekt Red promised an RPG" doesn't count. It's too vague. It needs to be specific.

What was promised? What was left out?

I am massively looking forward to this.

I'd never played a Witcher game before or read a book, but I bought TW3 on release day and I still have no idea why. I lost 3 solid months of my social life that year. Great times!

Need to do a replay of W3 only played it through once. Seem to remember though the extra downloaded content was superb too.

The amount of negativity I've seen regarding this online... So confused!
Just the usual neckbeard bullshit. They're doing the same with the new Naughty Dog game. "What's the games pronouns?" "Another box ticking exercise." The usual shite.

If they don't like it then why don't they make their own game? Oh, no, wait. They can't because they're fecking idiots.

Yeah, but all these agendas...bloody hell!

Anyway, I hope they actually look at the gameplay this time and improve on that. It's the only thing that can improve from TW3. Or at least balancing the fecking quests/XP so anything you earn is actually useful.

Edit: actually here’s a comprehensive list of stuff

I hope we get to customise Ciri's abs. And any associated quests, like you say, are balanced properly. I'd hate it if I saved an entire village from a swarm of undead monsters only to be given an ancient set of abs that are supposedly magical, and immediately discard them because I've already equipped a vastly superior set of abs.

Not even worth talking about the neckbeard response these days. It happens with every game. Best to ignore.

When I saw the trailer I did think Ciri looks different/rougher compared to TW3 and I think I know what it is - looks like they changed her nose, made it harsher, like it's been broken (a few times). Personally, I don't care. I just hope the writing is good and the gameplay is improved.

I love that loads of big games are going in an avenue which pisses them off. Both The Witcher and Ghosts of Tsushima going with female protagonists. You just know GTA will have some missions related to alt right culture too.

I think she just looks older. Maybe she's been 5 or 10 years on the Witcher path at this point. Killing monsters, sleeping in ditches and knocking back potions and decoctions for years will make you a bit grizzled.

This is one of those times where you should actually learn about the subject you are discussing before you get all angry at people who clearly know more than you.

It's fine to love the game, but it's plain weird to defend it at all costs without knowing the history.

If we can't customise the Adam's apple, then I'm out.
