Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Story and Sword or Blood and Broken Bones? Leaning towards the former unless it’s ridiculously too easy.
The second hardest difficulty is just about right. Just hard enough to make boss fights interesting occasionally and running into a pack of high level enemies in the wilderness dangerous.

Installed it again with all this chat of a tv show, I hadn’t finished one of the DLC which I think was blood and wine, can’t recall which was which. Was unsatidfied with my ending of the main and lost the will to go on  I also spent far too long playing Gwent. I did become unbeatable, put a Monster deck in my hand and it was over.

Anyway going to get back in to it but foolishly I pre ordered the new tomb raider game and the Red dead redemption comes out next month also.

So not a huge gamer but got a PS4 recently and bought his a week ago. First time playing it properly the last two days and it's amazing already! I'm only to Velen so far. Anyway I'm pretty OCD (somewhat why I avoid gaming sometimes) and I failed my first side quest (protected weaklings from ghouls), is it that big a deal overall? Realised I was under levelled to do the quest, any tips for avoiding quests until you are ready? Cheers.

I'm jealous because I love that game. I would love to play it again from scratch. I'm not a big gamer either but I absolutely love Witcher 3.

It's not a big deal to fail a random sidequest. I failed a couple, despite being somewhat OCD too. Save the game frequently and then if you want, you can go back and not fail. But some quests are so small it doesn't matter.

To be honest, this sounds like an adequate amount of time playing Gwent.... I haven't quite finished Witcher 3 but I'm saving the Gwent quests til last because I really like it.

Oh man it is just amazing so far. Killing that Griffin in the beginning almost made me explode! Cheers, I got through white orchard ok and now realise I need to save a lot more.

Yeah Velen gets a lot more intense. You die more frequently so if you don't save then you can lose 20+ minutes of progress when you die... which can be annoying when it happens repeatedly!

But there is so much of the world left for you to explore. And the expansions give you even more. Say goodbye to a month of your life

 Recovering from a broken ankle so bought Rocket League (amazing), Witcher and FIFA 19 on the way. Nice to have something to delve into. What I love about Witcher is that since I reached Velen I have been weirdly on edge about every move I make. Honestly so far it's the best game I've played since Metal Gear Solid 2.

It's the best game I've ever played.

Velen is genuinely terrifying. Oxenfurt and Novigrad are much more cultured and non-life threatening. Beauclair (expansion) is absolutely delightful. The Skellige Isles are badass.

The game only gets better. You'll thank your ankle for breaking by the end of it.

You have no idea how jealous I am of you. I hate that I actually finished the game and it’s all over.

@kidbob saving often is the key to this game, I would save before every quest and have 2 save files. Such a good game. @Fridge chutney if the save I stopped playing at wasn’t at some ridiculously hard part for someone who has forgotten all the buttons I’d be playing Gwent right now in a tavern somewhere

Today is the day I’m going to start it over again, see if I can get it done before RDR2 comes out. I also saw this.

Not sure what kind of game it is as I had seen nothing on it until this.

Yep finally learned my saving lesson. My god this game is amazing. Am I wrong saying that the Game of Thrones franchise could do a game based on this style? I've read the books and would love a game like this in a World I'm already familiar with and I'm sure that with the TV series it would sell so well.

So it’s an RPG style game based on the Gwent collectible card game they have. The story will be a new one but the battles will be with using the cards.

Amazing! Very happy there's more Witcher to look forward to, even if it is Gwent-focused.

I don't know about that, A Song of Ice and Fire is way too big in scope to properly tackle in a video game in my opinion. The Witcher works so well because it's a very personal story, albeit set in an epic world. It's easy to have Geralt as main character, he's the protagonist throughout the books and his super-human abilities make him ideally suited to be controller in a video game. Plus witchers do all sorts of contracts so this makes having numerous side-quests feel very natural. It'd be a lot more challenging to create a similar game in ASoIaF's world.

@kidbob I was just setting it up to start a new game and noticed in game options you can set it to auto save every 5minutes which is what I’ve just done. I seem to have some option for alternative Triss, Ciri and Yen as well as some Band of Heroes Gwent card set option. Put them all on so will see what it’s like.

This will be me until October 20th as well as the occasional Monster Hunter World Session for events. So much monsters to be hunted.

I started a new run of TW3 2-3 weeks ago. Already played ~20 hours and am still very much at the beginning.

Slight issue, I clicked on new game + which gave you the option of keeping all your weapons and armour as well as your skill points. So when I was at the castle and hoping for a refresher tutorial it automatically skips it so I still have no idea how to put away my sword and combat is going to have to be a baptism of fire.

Worst thing is, so you keep all your weapons but not my Gwent collection, what kind of rubbish is that, oh and as I completed my first quest the game decided to stop, jump to home screen and the game needed reloaded.

Got to the Bloody Baron part and have now just been traveling around challenging every bar keep, trader, circus dude I come across to games of Gwent. This has its own problems as I keep coming across people and getting thrown in to battles that I seem to be outmatched for, which I really don’t get as I have unique armour, full mutations a relic master sword and yet 1 little swipe from a bandit and my health drops massively.

I just got this since reviews are so good and I wanted a new game.
Any tips or is it pretty straight forward
If you haven't played the first two some of the story and mechanics may be a bit confusing at first but once you get past the opening chapter you ll be sucked in. Stick with it and experience one of the best games of all time. Don't read spoilers unless your absolutely stuck. Also don't worry about doing things in a certain order if you get distracted because you see something interesting to explore or pick up a side quest (do em all-some are almost main quest like in where they lead). Enjoy it. And don't walk away from it to start another game - it's best enjoyed like a good book by not putting it down too often.

Do I need to buy the dlc? I just bought the main game rather than the complete one with all the dlc.

No the full game was updated to the GOTY edition with a patch but to actually access the areas yes you ll need them still. And trust me - you ll want more TW. I completed the first dlc before the main game (kinda fits well that way) and then the second one after.

Both offer about as much content as some standalone games. They re fantastic.

Ok I'll download them from the live store

I'm still on Blood and Wine (incredible map and edition, imo) but I'm already looking forward to playing again

Enjoying mr second p-laythrough more than the first. Ended uyp shooting through th story first time but going for full completion this time (now with the paid DLC's)_

Shit, actually as much gameplay? I'm not too far into the main game (had a few days away), is it worth downloading the DLC and starting again before I get too far in or should I just plow ahead and do the DLC later?

@Billy Blaggs just got the game myself not so long ago and just through the prelude. It's already amazing IMO.

Nope. The expansions just add stories and areas to the map. It doesn't change the original game. You're good!

Blood and Wine actually adds a completely new world (or region, whatever you call it). Pretty much the Witcher version of France.

You need to be at a sufficiently high level to stand a chance in the DLC so it's only meant to be played after the main game itself. Don't worry about it for now, just play through the game and add the DLC later if you want (and you will want to).

One of them you can easily do without finishing the main, plus you get a nifty sword from it which would come in handy, that’s what I did anyway first time round. Blood and Wine, yeah that is for after or even a 2nd playthrough as I’m sure last time I went for an adventure round there I was coming across things that the suggestion was level 70-90 and I was merely level 42. Stupid ghost hound things.

God I wish I could wipe my memory with one of those Men in Black things and replay this game from scratch. It's so fecking good.

I’m not
I was a bad father last time and filled Ciri with self doubt by being over protective and she died.
that ain’t happening again

I think even all my Hearts of Stone quests had level requirements of 30+.

While i've enjoyed the game, some of the bugs are downright annoying. Turns out I can't do the wolf gear quests because of one, I have to wait until starting the new game plus for that.

Yeah that is slightly annoying, I remember one from Skellige where you have to give something to a blacksmith but for whatever reason he just doesn’t interact with you. Think it was for something cool as well.

Is it the one near
Kaer Morhen? In that little tower?
