Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

It simply flattens every single RPG/open world game and it'll take a long long time for something else to come remotely close.
The standards for Cyberpunk 2077 are going to be absolutely ridiculous.

didn't play this for a long time but working my way through the expansion packs

the blood and wine one in particular is a huge add on and introduces new monsters to take on

one of the best games I've ever played

I've had it ages and played it for over 70 hours but just finished the main quest and now on to the DLC...simply one of the best games ever made.

Definitely. If it isn't the best game ever by some distance, people are going to be disapponted. But really, each game from CD has been a big improvement over the previous one and the company isn't giving any sign of changing so really, it will be a great game. I think that games from CDPR are the only games that at this stage I would preorder before the reviews coming out.

I'm not! If it's anywhere near the standard set by the Witcher 3 and it's authentic cyberpunk, I'll be happy.

A shame we're at least a year away from it, probably more.

well, if it's as big as they're saying, I'd say we're 2-3 years away at least.

Yeah, I'd guess 2019-ish. The Witcher 3 was initially expected to come out 2014, but they ended up pushing that a whole year back. Don't think they're doing the same this year by dropping ambitious release dates early.

Having not played Zelda myself, which do you think is the better game? Seems clear they're the best two OWG's ever so I'd be curious to know.

It's not really a straightforward comparison to be honest, they both have completely different strengths.

Zelda is my favourite by a fair margin. BUT, that's because of the gameplay aspects primarily, everything works and the whole thing simply takes gaming to a whole new level, whereas the gameplay in Witcher was functional but by no means it's strong point. Witcher 3 of course wins out in terms of the epic story and those side quests

People really should play both tbh, whilst I personally don't put Witcher right at the top (which I've explained why in here many a time), I totally get why people do. Zelda is far more clear cut for me, and really pushes the concept of open world into a whole new realm, one which will undoubtedly be a massive influence on gaming.

Plus these games, and the likes of the Souls series and countless others, really do show that modern gaming really isn't all bad and we are pushing on. That's great for us all :)

I miss this game intensely. I wish I never finished it. Twice.

Just finished the main story line...ended up spending 65 hours trying to save Ciri, only for her to then kill herself by transporting to the other world with the white frost and dying...(allegedly)...

I've just started the expansion packs, but I can't get into it properly as I'm all "Witchered" out after the two big boss battles at the end against the Wild Hunt blokes...

Will give it a rest for a week or two before starting those...

Might be worth putting that in spoiler tags in case new players open the thread

As someone who never quite got round to finishing the game but fully intends on at some point... I find myself very irritated by that spoiler. Cheers.

Agree he should have put a spoiler tag, but don't worry as there are other endings anyway depending on your choices as any RPG game. I got a different ending than him.

I saw that this game goes for 12 pounds on the PS Store. Should I? I'm usually not that much into fantasy and monsters.

That's an amazing price for one of the best games ever. Assume it has gone on a time limited sale? Definitely try it out, even if you're not usually into fantasy. It's quite different from most fantasy fare.

I don't see the issue, the game came out 2 years ago, the needing to spoiler tag things pretty much become null and void after 6 months.

The game has been out for over two years now. If you're still entering this thread despite not having finished the game it's honestly your own fault. The ending, and other significant plot details, have been mentioned many times before this, and using spoilers gets really annoying really fast. Stay out of the thread if you haven't finished the game and if you need some help, only read replies directly to you. If people ask for help with something in the game people are usually good at using spoilers, if they're uncertain whether their reply goes into too much detail or not.

That being said, we could use some rules on spoilers regarding games. We have them for both TV shows, books and films. @Wibble @Raoul @Damien

There are 36 different endings depending on the choices you make, so I've spoiled nothing...

As I mentioned above, there are 36 different endings for this game which depend on your choices, so it's not even a spoiler, it's just one of the ways you can finish the game...

There aren't actually 36 endings.

There are 3 endings to the main plot and then each of the major side stories has another 3 or 4.
