Who plays Geralt? My choice is

And do we get to see all the sex?

Thinking about getting balls deep into a game to take my mind off some shit. Is this the game for this?

Most definitely mate. I've been doing the same lately and it's been great from it. You lose hours at a time without even realising.

I'm half insanely excited and half reserved. How well will it translate into TV? How would they do it? Retell the entire novel plot? Standalone adventures of certain Geralt quests?

Yeah good news this. I thought while I was playing the game that it could make for a great tv series. Especially with GoT winding down soon, it could be very popular if done right.

Aye, it definitely has the mature themes of sex, political intrigue, and morally-grey, multi-faceted characters -- all within the backdrop of war too.

Intriguing... i've not read the novels but know they're meant to be pretty good.
You're missing out, the novels, and especially the preceding short story collections, are fantastic.

I'm not sure about this one though. For me as fan of the books and video games, they will have to get the casting spot on or it doesn't stand a chance. I'm intrigued to see what they'll come up with. Even though the video games have nothing to do with this, it will be hard to avoid their influence, especially considering the fantastic job they did translating the book characters to on-screen characters. It has potential, but could also end in disaster. Assume the worst, hope for the best and all.

Netflix is hit and miss with their own stuff. They'd have to have just the right people in charge. I think I saw someone from The Expanse is directing...a decent show from what I've heard.

it'll get a huge budget and they'll be able to show whatever the hell they want on it, plus it already has great source material to work with.

for me it's a bit like GoT, it'd actually be harder for them to feck it up!

Glancing at face value, Netflix's best shows seem to be stuff like Bojack Horseman, Narcos, House of Cards. Do they have any fantasy stuff? Their Marvel shows (which I guess is the closest thing to this(?)) look like absolute shite to me - Daredevil, Jessica Jones etc.

The article does mention that Sapkowksi is being used as 'creative consultant', which is always a very good sign.

Those Marvel shows actually have good reputations, not that I watch them. I was thinking of The Last Kingdom and Marco Polo, both of which are watchable but cringeworthy at times.

Very excited about this. I hope though that after they cover the novels, they also cover the third game which is even better than the novels.

I kinda hope they leave the games alone and do their own thing, they (especially the third) are already perfect.

If the author is a consultant on the show I doubt they'll go near the games given he seems to hate them, or at least the fact he wasn't involved in the making of them.

"I'm thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories," he said in a press release quote, "staying true to the source material and themes that I have spent over 30 years writing. I'm excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life."

I actually interpreted his above comment as including a bit of a dig at the games, though that could just be me putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with a hard willy.

I actually like Daredevil (a lot to be honest), but then again I think Jessica Jones is complete garbage. Netflix can be great or terrible in equal measure.

He's ranted about them multiple times so I wouldn't be surprised if he is. It's a bit odd how he's willing to grill the games but work on a TV show. Is it envy down to the success of CDPR and the fact he didn't really make anything financially from it?

Understandable. I've never really seen any as that type of show isn't my cup of tea, so I guess I'm inherently biased against them.

He made tons of money through the increased book sales. He's just full of envy they needed a beloved video game to take off.

He may be having mixed feelings about the games because he sold off the rights to them for a low, one time fee up front rather than a percentage of profits. He didn't expect them to be a success at all.

I also think Mads Mikkelsen could be a decent shout for Geralt, though he's a bit too old to play the younger Geralt in some of the stories.

I guess Lord of the Rings has ruined me, because I always think of Viggo Mortensen for roles like this.

I really think he would've made a great Roland for the Dark Tower movie.

Make it happen, although the actor should be able to be more of a lump and sarcastic. Mads doesn't exactly fill that mould

I'd say Geralt is more solemn and philosophical. More so in the books too, where the show will take most of its inspiration.

Black Company AND The Witcher coming as TV series? Sounds like good times ahead.
Black Company seems almost in development, while The Witcher, they just made some contract with the author.

The Wheel of Time, The Kingkiller's Chronicles and The Stormlight Archive are three others big fantasy sagas whose TV rights have been sold. Let's see which of these really happen.

There's a famous Geralt cosplayer called Maul. They should just take him and teach him how to act. It'll be loads cheaper and you'll actually have the guy who probably looks the most like Geralt in real life.

Acting is a piece of cake, isn't it? :p

Just ordered a copy! Any advice chaps?

Is it an online game or off? Literally know nothing.
Purely offline single player. Best advice is probably not to burn yourself out on all the question marks you see around the map. There's absolutely nothing wrong with doing them all, but there's nothing wrong with skipping some either. I'd highly recommend doing as many side quests are you can squeeze in though, a lot of them are high quality and not just filler (as in many other RPGs).

It's not a game I'd play while having something else on a different screen or something like that either. The dialogue is generally top class, and the choices in the game aren't black/white, so there's no easy option to fall back on (like if you're playing the "good guy" in another RPG).

Lastly, when you're drunk agree to everything your friends suggest - you'll thank me later.

Gerrard as Geralt?
The Witcher, a slapstick comedy where Steven Gerrard stars as Geralt of Rivia as he trips and slips his way through dangerous battles and political intrigue.

Co-starring Dirk Kuyt, Lucas Leiva and Luis Suarez as Geralt's three goofy rock troll friends.
