Someone posted a list of recommended mods here sometime. Where is it please? :) I've already installed a bunch from the reddit "QoL" thread.

The QoL thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/5k0zat/i_made_a_list_of_recommended_qol_mods_for/

Friendly HUD is a great mod, changes the experience playing W3 quite a bit. Highly recommended. :) Note: read the readme carefully when installing. The "Quick install" part is a bit misleading, you still have to read on to section 4 and do that too.
This looks like a pretty good list, but it's missing a couple I used and really liked.

- Display Quen duration - invaluable if you're relying on Quen a lot, you no longer have to guess how long it will last only to have it disappear at a crucial moment.
- AutoLoot - I set it to auto loot herbs only, so you can pick those plants without having to go into an unnecessary and pretty annoying menu.
- Darker Nights - by default the nights are so light it doesn't impede your vision at all. Using this mod, going out into a thick forest by night actually gives you the impression you're in a thick forest by night, i.e. you see very little. Torches and Cat potions become more valuable. Also, seeing the lit up Novigrad in the distance during a dark night is a visual delight.

I haven't tested them together with all those on your list so compatibility may be an issue, but they're at least worth checking out.

Ah shit. I could reload an earlier save but i'll just deal with it. The silly bitch was a liability anyway. Anyway, I'm guessing the game wouldn't punish you that bad for a choice it allows you to make, so it should be okay.

Good for you! Play the story you get, not the 'best' story.

It's more rewarding suffering the consequences and looking up where it branches off afterwards, I think.

It would be tedious to play with a guide out to get the optimal outcome, enjoy the journey!

Ok, so now I'm in Skellige, how much do I have left to do on the main quest to find Ciri?

I've done about 33 hours so far, but I feel like I've barely scratched the surface, and I'm on level 17, so there's still a feck load of side quests which are way beyond my current level...

I did find some kick arse steel and silver swords in a smugglers drop in the middle of the sea between one of the Skellige islands...

One quick question, I found an old smashed up boat on a small island, with some sealed letters in Elvish, I now have to go and uncover what happened to the other boat, but when I get to the mission marker thing, it's just a fast travel signpost, and I don't know where to go after that? Any idea, as I spent about 2 hours last night tramping round the islands hoping to stumble upon it...

Have you checked to see if it's any of the other areas outside Skellige? Usually when it points you to a fast travel post you have to go to another location. Have you tried Velen?

No, I might try that tonight if I get chance...

Thinking back, it did mention something about Velen I think...

Good man...

The main quest isn't actually very long if you only focus on that for a while. I think you're about half way through. It also gives a crapload of xp, should get you to level 30 or so.

Cool, nice one...

I've yet to level up enough to try the DLC packs yet, most of them are up in the high 20's/early 30's...

It took me about 3 hours of fecking about to do one tiny bit of the main story last night, as I was just wandering round Skellige Islands opening up fast travel signposts and doing random missions that cropped up...

Like that cnut at the Lighthouse who is wrecking ships on purpose...I did that job before I had picked it up off the notice board...when it finished, I was fuming as I thought, "where's my fecking reward you cnut...".

I enjoy taking all of the peasants money for monster removal and stuff, and then haggling for more, and then looting their homes of food...just a shame you can't kill the local population or interact with them much...

Some cnut in the bath-house in Novigrad told me to "Go feck your mums tits" the other day...

If a quest marker only leads you to a fast travel signpost, that usually means that the objective is located in another part of the world map. Though there are a few occasions when the real destination isn't anywhere due to a character being unavailable for whatever reason due to another quest.
And I think you can open up quite a few fast travel signposts for travelling to just by reading/picking up all the notes on notice boards. At least that's how I think it happens, as most of the parts of the Skellige isles already had signposts for me when I started going to them.

What have the local population done to harm you? :( I feel bad about stealing the bread from their homes. Still do it sometimes.

I'm level 9 and decided to check out a couple of those interesting looking question mark on the map today. The the first one was a bandit camp with level 3 bandits that I cut down in one or two swipes.

So I moved onto the next one which was no more than 150 meters away. Some long armed freak thing was guarding some treasure. It had a level of ?? and killed me with one hit as I tried to run away.

Safe to say I won't be returning there until I am a bit more leveled up.

 By the time you are lvl 15-20 you will be killing them for fun.

I tried doing the armor quest for the dwarf when I was lvl14-15. Low level sword + no oil effect. I spent 10 mins dodging and attacking to just get 20% of the troll's life force. Came back after couple of level ups including points, and got through it fairly well.

If you absolutely want to defeat an enemy way above your level, use the Archgriffin decoction. 10% damage to current hitpoints guaranteed with heavy blows. Drains your stamina. Use together with Ekhidna decoction for healing on top.

How do you get the archgriffin mutagen/page?

Mutagen: Killing an Archgriffin :D
Can't remember where the schematic is found. Maybe random loot, maybe you can buy it.

Yeah, I've sussed that now, I had to go to Velen to complete the task...I spent about 2 hours last night without doing hardly any quests, just running round opening up new places, and guarded treasure, monster nests, etc...

I do have a question...in Velen, way to the Right of the map, there looks to be a massive settlement, with loads of little square huts on it, what is that, and is it worth the massive trek to get there?

the locals are always giving me shit, spitting on me, calling me names, so I think "right, feck you then, I'm taking your broken rake and your empty bottles, you cnut"...

It's the Nilfgaardian army camp
There's not a whole lot to do there.

They fear the strange/unknown. I recommend the Lore Friendly Witchers mod (but with Vanilla Pupils imo), makes Geralt and the other witchers look more like they should according to the books and previous games. Makes you understand a bit more why you're often called a freak.

Can I mod on Xbox?

It's an army camp. Literally nothing there. I get the feeling they were gonna use it for DLC, before they created a whole new area called Toussaint (which I highly recommend btw, I've found it more enjoyable than the main game. It's a whole new story but set in sunny wine country)

Not sure about that - Hearts of Stone was already set *Gaunter O'Dimm easter egg early on* and Toussaint is also a region in the books as well as the characters like Anna Henrietta and Regis, so it was very likely that they were going to be the DLC's quite early on.

I think it was maybe more base game stuff they had to cut. Because as big as the game was, they had even bigger plans for it originally. If I recall correctly there was some stuff along the lines of:
The region where you fight with Imlerith, The Bald Mountain, was supposed to be a lot more creepy, with suicide cults and orgies and shite going on.
Instead of the last battle taking place in Skellige, it was meant to spread into Novigrad and you'd have seen some of Novigrad white-frosted out
A main quest delving into Eredin's past and motivations - the lack of which was of course the main criticism from most players in terms of plot
There was definitely a bit more, I'm sure you can find it if you give a search online.

There's a few missions and also a callback to something you may or may not have done in White Orchard.
There's only one mission (finding a missing red haired Nazairan cavalry son for a mother) in the Nilfgardian Army Camp unless I missed something. The notice board didn't give me anything. Not worth the trip unless you're just really curious.

Just purchased GOTY edition in Humble Bundle for 30EUR.

Now, I have to download 34GB. With Italy being a fourth world country when it comes to the internet, I will play it sometime next year.

Oh my Gosh, there is no pause button while downloading. What happens if I shut down my computer, does it starts the download from the very beginning or it continues when it left (like Steam does)?

I saw people complaining about this since 2015 in gog forums.

There is so much to do that in my first play through I completely missed the army camp. The next time I saw it and made a long long trek from Novigrad to go see it, only to be disappointed.

On Xbox? It will just continue where you left off next time you turn it on.

Nah, PC.

Anyway, it is downloaded and installed now. For people who have played it on PC, is it better to play with mouse and keyboard or with a XBox 360 controller?

I use an xbox one controller.

Don't forget mods, or at very least play on blood and bones difficulty with enemy levelling on after you get to grips with it. You'll get why later in the game.

Death March for your first playthrough, has to be. Then when you complete it, go back and do it on the easiest difficulty just to take it all in.

Nope, not for me. Death march is unbalanced and is literally just higher energy and sharper shots for a.i. Pretty standard crap which just makes battles last a little longer but also makes them more boring.

Since the gameplay doesn't hold out enough for the entire game, I suggest blood and bones and enemy leveling as the best balance. Even then it gets way to easy without all the oils and alchemy stuff, but at least it's not tedious rather than challenging.

Started it and it seems very good. Yen seems kind of cool, and Geralt is hilarious as ever. The meeting with the Emperor and all that stuff was fun.

One interesting thins is that in the current mission it is recommended to be level 5, but I am still level 3. I did some of the secondary quests (and there weren't many), but they just didn't give to much XP, and defeated quite easily that large bird.

Regardless, had fun so far, the game seems very packed with stuff, the secondary quests are more interesting than 'go there, kill X', and the story seems nice although a bit confusing (haven't read the books). I guess that this will be my main entertainment for the next 2 months.
