Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Hello,

I'm here on an appeal from RedCafe FC, the Caf's premier Fifa Pro Club. We are desperately in need of supplies. We have been hit by devastating earthquakes going by the names of the Destiny DLC and The Witcher. All we ask is that we have our players back so we can survive relegation; players like @DatIrishFella @One Night Only and @Damien. Please, help us stop the madness by abandoning your support of these games and giving us our squad back.

Thank You

 I'll struggle to be on fifa due to working nights for the next 3 nights, then I'll be good for the next couple weeks.

Supposedly there is four free DLC's to download from PSN? Forgot all about them. The beard and hairstyle DLC is a must. Speaking of beards, it's fcuking awesome how as time goes by, Geralt's beard grows.

Oh yeah, blame me!

I didn't have anything to do with it, ffs.....

Getting into it now. There's basically no reward for fighting anything outside of a quest is there. You don't seem to get XP and just lose health which I find hard to regenerate?

Bought it in store today and then got delivery from the place I had preordered it from - turns out they were mistaken and they did dispatch it yesterday  as a result I have two copies but I have already sold one on Allegro (Polish eBay), only lost 3 quid luckily.

Getting into this now. I have not played 1 & 2 but overall I think I understand the plot so far.

Played it for a couple of hours so far, and I'm impressed. Looks great on PS4, liking the combat and it's actually quite funny in parts.

Feck me this game is huge. Spent a good 3 hours and I'm still level 1 exploring near that first small village.

Side/secondary quests and Witcher Contracts give you a decent chunk. Meditating will get your health back and refill your potions if you're playing on normal or lower.

Ah so that's why I get no health when I meditate! Playing it on hard at the moment which seems about right but it is frustrating getting health levels back. Will have to just use potions.

Yeah, hard isn't bad getting into grips with the combat and stuff, just the lack of health supporting is too much for trouble for me this early in.

You don't get XP? :/ I thought you did, even if not you get stuff from looting them.

Game looks good, but I expected more (playing on Ultra /w HBAO+ at 1440p). Gameplay? Well, I'm not that far in, but it does seem like a marginal upgrade from Witcher 2.
I don't know, the combat seems much improved to me, and the gigantic size of the game world changes things significantly.

Been watching a walkthrough and the player "meditates" (sets the in game time half an hour or so in to the future) to regain full health.

I don't like how the main character moves so far, seems very weird and mechanic, I love the design of the world and dialogue so far. Only about 2 hours in so far and I've barely touched the main quest, I'm trying to understand the story and get to the grips with the world so it's going to take a while but I intend to take it slow.

The combat is fine, not Dark Souls/Bloodbourne fluid, but pretty responsive. I also love how enemies back away and temporarily retreat, makes fights a lot more dynamic.

Managed about an hour yesterday - handles really well and the world looks absolutely huge. Combat seems a lot better than in Witcher 2 as well.

The only thing... whilst the Graphics are grand, I don't think it's anything to be knocked sideways by... the leap between PS3 graphics and PS4 graphics is still negligible I'd say.

Couple of hours in and I love it, the first area is absolutely huge I'm doing everything but the main quest at the moment.

You got it on the PS4? Seen a lot of people moaning about the movement, saying it's too floaty.

BTW, I had my pre-order cancelled

It is indeed quite floaty, I believe another patch might fix it but so far I can say it's going to take time to get used to it, especially as I've played Bloodborne and GTA V before and they were both pretty much flawless in that department (especially Bloodborne).

The world is fantastic though, I intend to spend a couple of hours today just exploring. It definitely looks like the sort of game I'll just keep coming back to like GTA V and will probably last months.

I think the character movement in GTA is pretty shite to be honest. It's just a problem I've come to accept from third person games.

It's very good in GTA V, jumping, running, fighting works all right and stealth elements are also mostly spot on.

Witcher 3 most likely isn't that bad in that aspect, it's just that it needs time to get used to it. I actually considered not going to a football game in the evening today to play Witcher instead which is testament to how much I've enjoyed it so far.

Graphics wise I love it too, perhaps because the design of the world is something I really, really love.

Got my first couple of hours in now and boy this game will last me a long time. Very few complaints so far. The graphics aren't staggering but they're more than good enough. I'm finding the movement a bit severe but I probably just need to tone the sensitivity down a bit. The biggest problem I've faced was the game crashing when I tried to pass my turn in Gwent. Anyone else experienced that on PS4?

Overall I'm very much liking what I see so far. Played about 3 hours and I've still barely done anything! For those playing on one of the harder difficulties like me get the 'Sun and Stars' ability for vitality regeneration outside of combat. Will save a lot of coin on food so it's the very first one I took.

Yeah that's a known common glitch, expect them to patch it asap.

Agreed. There's something to0 slow about GTA movement...a bit too heavy.

Seen some people say they had trouble going through doors! What level are you playing it on then?

Normal, 2/4. I don't really want it any tougher, there are too many things to worry about in this game to make it even harder with higher difficulty.

CD Project Red said that Witcher would have a dynamic resolution which would go up to 1080p during less extensive parts of the game on the Xbone...but according to digital foundry it only has 1080p in the title screen ?!

Also read that PS4 and Xbone both have framerate issues. PS4 is capped at 30fps (but can go down to 20fps) while Xbone is uncapped so can end up going to 35-40 FPS which is apparently not so good.

Hope they manage to sort everything out including the movement problems in a patch before I play it.

"The first distinction is that PS4 caps its frame-rate at 30fps (with v-sync), while Xbox One runs with no cap at all to allow a variance between 30-40fps during play. This means Sony's machine is in theory capable of a smoother experience - with the cadence of frame delivery forced to a consistent rate. However there are issues on the Sony side side as well, and the net result is that neither feels truly smooth, though for very different reasons.

To start with cut-scenes, a firm 30fps line is held on PS4 during an early griffin encounter, and in practice this gives us smoother motion compared to the 35fps read-out on Xbox One (higher frame-rate does not automatically mean a better experience overall, something we've covered in-depth before). However, the problem here is that if the PS4's frame-rate drops below this number, it instantly locks to 20fps.

Overall, the fact Xbox One tends to holds a higher frame-rate is misleading in terms of the quality of the end experience; a capped 30fps is by far the preferred option in this case and we still hope to see it implemented in a future update. The PS4 release has the right tactic, but it lets itself down by being unable to stream in world geometry or render effects at a perfect 30fps to take advantage of this. The perceived effect is a judder to motion on both consoles, for cut-scenes and gameplay, though PS4 is capable of smoother passages of play at times. When it comes to performance, and factoring in the game's superior 1920x1080 output, Sony's hardware is a preference - but it's not the clear choice we had expected."

Sounds like a poor job on both consoles by CD Project.

Ffs.

Is this game worth it?

It depends what you're into. If you enjoy these types games then it's well worth it, the story is great and the world looks great too.

Did you play the Witcher 2?

Nah I have no idea what it's about. After looking at 2 minutes of gameplay it looks like third person Skyrim.

It's not like Skyrim, the Witcher is more story driven and less sandboxy. You don't need to play the other two games to play this, so you can just jump in.

It's improved, but it could be better. The menu design is still mediocre, too.

Combat, even on the hardest difficulty, is easily cheesed. Enemies (humans, at least) have an invisible box which they NEVER stray out from, so all you have to do is drag them to the edge and heavy attack, roll out, etc  I don't suggest doing it, though! Sucks the fun outta the game.

This game is off the heezay! Just unfeckingbelieveable. I just really hope they fix the performance. The constant judder when riding around and/or running is annoying. Pls fix it thx.

No I can't have that. I've played around 5 or 6 hours and have been quite surprised about how smooth it has run.

I havent played it yet so I'm just going by what I've heard and it sounds like there's quite a few issues for both consoles. It's a bit surprising consider it was delayed twice I think and the last delay they gave the reason of how they just needed to polish it up and optimise.
