I still don't like what happened to Omar. He's my favourite character and I feel he should've gotten the better of Marlo at some point.

We'd prefer Clay Davis to get taken down, no doubt... We'd prefer to see Omar get his way and get out, back to the tropics... We'd prefer to see Carcetti not become an establishment politician, same as the rest... but that's not what kind of show this is, and it's all the better for it![]()
Just read the last page and I'm considering watching it again now. Ive already watched it twice, and I thought that would be it for me, but I'm struggling to find a new show at the moment anyway having wolfed through around 20 already. I also have a thing against watching shows with only one or even two seasons. I only like to follow one or two active shows at a time, or at least ones that have less than 4 seasons.
The Wire was brilliant though, but I still think Breaking Bad took me to a place television has never done before, so I still have it as my number one. After that, between The Wire, Sopranos and even Boardwalk for me.

I would have prefered it if they had found some other thing to focus on in the last series except the whole journalist things and the fake serial killer - but hey its still my favourite show ever
The badass character that Omar was, he should've taken down Marlo. Didn't do him justice. Marlo's lieutenants didn't tell him about Omar or they'd have had a showdown and only one of them would've survived.
Reading all of this the temptation of rewatching it for the 3rd time increases and increases...feck sake what a terrific show this is.
I thought it was really apt to show how even a character like Omar could die in the least likely of circumstances. It would've felt out of keeping with the rest of the series to have him complete some (anti) heroic character arc. Plus I felt like they did the happy ending by showing Bubbles being accepted back into his sister's life. Too many happy endings just wouldn't have rung true for such a critical and angry show. The badass character that Omar was, he should've taken down Marlo. Didn't do him justice. Kind of funny(and sad), how Omar got what Marlo longed for and Marlo got what Stringer longed for.
I think I'll give it a rewatch myself at some stage, only ever watched it through the once, and that was a few years ago now.
When Stringer bell was having that meeting with Marlo, he mentioned how the city of Baltimore had its fair share of smart players and he mentioned the name Melvin. Later I realised it was probably Melvin Williams he was talking about.
Only took me a 2nd watch to realise it.Well spotted, that didn't occur to me at all.
Yes. The wire is without any doubt the show that gets better in subsequent viewing. I was one of those who found season 2 terribly slow on first viewing but I enjoyed it thoroughly the second and third time I watched it.Could barely control myself couple of months. Have started watching it again, almost done with season 1. It's better than the first viewing, so many little things I'm noticing the first time. What a bloody show!
Yeah, season 2 is excellent TV in hindsight. The Wire in general really is exceptional, it's the only show I was willing to rewatch completely for the 2nd time, every single hour. Might watch it for the 3rd time soon...Yes. The wire is without any doubt the show that gets better in subsequent viewing. I'm hoping for something similar with the 2nd season too. My brother is the only person I have come across who absolutely loved 2nd season in the first viewing, he enjoyed it more than any other season.Yes. And I've STILL never watched this...It's on my "Must Watch" list...but the hassle of downloading it all is weighing on my decision, and feck paying £50 for the privilege...
Damn you Virgin...That's what kept me off watching it for years.
But when I saw it available on Sky on demand I downloaded the first 3 seasons while I watched the first episode and never looked back.
Damn you Virgin...
Media, not you...
I like that scene when Stringer orders Slim Charles to hit Clay Davis and Avon steps in.I'm on my rewatch of season 3 and I've realised just how many quotables/powerful individual scenes this season has. Potential spoilers below if you haven't already seen (who hasn't, at this point?)
The Bunk monologue to Omar is excellent. I remember seeing a comment on YouTube after which perfectly summed it up for me; Bunks words were so hard to swallow that Omar physically had to spit them out.
The gradual deterioration between Stringer and Avon throughout is pretty phenomenal also. 'Just a gangster, I suppose', then the scene where String admits he took out D'Angelo, and then finally in the penultimate season episode, 'We ain't got[a] dream no more man.' Just some incredible stuff.
Also, I think the scene where Bubbles walks through Hamsterdam may be one of the most eerie pieces of television ever. Just four minutes of depraved carnage.

"They saw your ghetto ass coming from MILES AWAY nigga".
And then he talks about a needing a 'Day of the Jackal type of motherfecker' to do something like that. Stringer is completely schooled, all he does is just nod his head and walk off.
I bought the DVDs and never regretted it.And I've STILL never watched this...It's on my "Must Watch" list...but the hassle of downloading it all is weighing on my decision, and feck paying £50 for the privilege...
