Television The Walking Dead

I don't know if there was anything in the episode that could have been cut to be honest, I think all of it was important development wise.

We're getting an extended episode next week so maybe we'll get more varied things then.
Thought it was a good episode and wasn't really that much filler, even sandwich section was showing how brutal it could be whilst Dwight had privileges but still had to show conformance.

Thought it was showing character back stories and development.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the contrast between the two and even shows that maybe Dwight isn't so cool with everything.

Yeah, I liked it overall. Didnt think it was filler at all.

Yeah can see he resents Negan but is obviously wary/scared of him.

Dwight seems to be in conflict, especially with Daryl as he seems to like/respect Daryl, perhaps sees a bit of himself in him, but also feels threatened by him as Negan appears to like Daryl and perhaps sees him as a better potential lieutenant.

Negan's pathetic lack of ass bugs me. Dunno why but it does.

A super meany like that should not be a skinny runt.

Yeah cause Hitler was such a fat bastard! Yeah I did it, I used Hitler in a Walking Dead discussion!

Let's just leave fat meanies like Mussolini, Stalin, Mao, Rosanne Barr, Santa Claus and the likes out of this discussion.

Yeah, I think meeting Darryl that first time made him resent him straight away for being so free to have had his life as more normal and not under rule, he possibly saw this and realised that he had no choice but to be under Negan and that was best for both him and his wife.

I'm sure we'll see more of the conflict Dwight has, I don't think they would have focused an entire episode on him if it didn't mean seeing him more and more.

Yeah think hes going to get quite a bit of air time. Glad as hes a decent character so far and is growing on me. Mentioned this after last weeks episode that the new characters seem to be a bit more charismatic than last few seasons.

I just hope they find a good balance between them all, i'm looking forward to more Jesus.

Focusing episodes entirely on one character really hurts the show.

I don't know about that, but jumping between characters is certainly not good. So that's one episode with the group, and two without them, which doesn't really make sense. Unless you're out of material....

Hopefully it allows them to skip past the grieving part when they finally return to the group.

Given the wait for the big reveal in Ep1, the next two episodes should have been a double, as we are going to have to wait three weeks for group fallout

The show kills itself with these episodes focusing on one character and location. It'd be so much better if it switched between them all every episode. Just feels so needless.

Exactly my point as well. Variation is needed IMO, just switch back and forth throughout every episode, don't completely focus on 1 character.

Definitely agree. We're two episodes in, what's happening to the hilltop for example? We don't know. Jesus hasn't had one second of air time, it might be interesting to see what's going on.
How are Rick's crew coping, did they make it back to Alexandria? Maybe, who knows.
It's especially annoying since time is passing in the episodes, so there's huge gaps where things might happen that we can't see. Darryl's been tortured for days, and we haven't seen anything of the Kingdom or Alexandria. It's annoying, and the episodes drag

Surely the best chance of Daryl escaping / getting revenge, is by working his way up in the inside.
Certainly better than being tortured daily / put on the fence or w.e

Also, I liked this episode more than the previous one. I just wish they did half an episode on each.

I thought last nights episode was great.... To fall asleep to.

While I agree a lot of the episodes could be like that, it would be very difficult to portray the situation Darryl is in with a few couple minute segments. The way the episode carries on at a slow lumbering pace is almost to show how his isolation must feel. You can really get into the mindset he's in with a long episode like that, rather than having a change of pace.

Thats what I was thinking. Not sure what Daryl is hoping to get with his approach. Unless hes just happy to die though he seemed fearful of the bat the second time around.

If he gives in too easily not sure Negan would buy it. He picked Daryl because of his attitude. So even if Daryl wants to work his way up, he has to take some beatings and make it look good before giving in. This is not the first time that Negan has tried to break a man, they seem to have the process down, so trying to fool him won't be easy.

I liked this episode, it was really not focused just on Daryl. It gave us a look into Negan's set up and how things are run. Scar face cuckold guy, we learned quite a bit about him and his place in the Saviors.

Yeah, it wasnt just Daryl, it was a nice focus on Dwight too.

Negan sure does like hamming it up. I feel like the more I see of him, the more comical he becomes (yes i know hes based on a comic). But hes more OTT than menacing. But at least he brings a bit of intensity around him (mainly cos of what we saw happen to Glenn and Abraham).

Saying that, I dont think an extended episode was needed to show that Rick truly is subservient now. I did like Negans like to Father Gabriel though, especially with that creepy smile he does.

Michonne and Rosita characters at least got air-time and some development. (well Rosita moreso)

Negan's character is played brilliantly, especially in the most recent episode. The development of his character is spot on. At the end of the most recent episode I found myself really wanting Rick to give him some payback. That's the point with these kind of characters; they elicit a strong desire in the watcher to see them get their comeuppance. No complaints so far.................except.................

Negan's group of men. Why do they all have to be dastardly and cruel in the most bullying way? like the guy with the balloon. These guys are under Negan's thumb, yes, but I would think they would simply do what they're told in a clinical, apathetic way, rather than look to enjoying bullying just for the sake of proving that they're the "bad guys".

Why couldn't they kill Carl? I hate the kid. So annoying and he's a terrible actor too.

This is a bit boring. Not sure how long I can stomach watching episodes with the group all submissive and Negan preaching on. It gets old very fast. There's more drama now than most of the previous seasons but that's not what I started watching this series for. I guess you can't have 7 seasons of them exploring and killing zombies, but that's what I want to see.
