Music The Ultimate Metal thread.

'Kill 'em all' is a great album. All downhill from there, IMO. Although I do have a soft spot for "And Justice For All."

This thread has got me listening to Opeth again and my dad has been into my room about 4 times tonight telling me to 'turn that fecking racket down!'. This pleases me.

'Racket' I think it's safe to say he's not a fan :(

Maybe you should sit down with your dad and try and introduce him to Metal music.

You could ease him in gradually... I'm sure you can win him over.

Then you can Rock Out together :D

Whether you consider it "satanic" is irrelevant. You either believe a song is decent, or it isn't.

Not really, Lance, a song is music plus lyrics (mostly), so you can have some very good music, Bloodbath for example, but at the same time some really deplorable lyrics, or vice versa. I know not all bands can be es poetic as Opeth but I personally cannot listen to some of the bands largely based on their lyrics with satanic content.

Had this song on a lot recently.

Heavy as feck.

New Parkway Drive, new album is amazing.

The Ghost Inside, doing nothing new at all but being amazing anyway.

Really? Are you religious? Do you feel the same way about certain songs by Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, etc, who have all written songs that could be considered "satanic?"

I'm not shit talking, by the way, just interested.

Master of Puppets isnt a bad album either, Orion is a personal fave. Agree that some albums are hit and miss, lost their way a little from the ealry days altho I did enjoy St.Anger.

I am now listening to the entire Led Zepplin back catalogue, on II at the mo.

Finished listening to Pearl Jam, Ten, last week. I recommend it to anyone who is yet to savour the skills of Eddie Vedder.

Eddie Vedder could turn his shopping list into a beautiful song. One of my favourite vocalists, his album for Into the Wild is fantastic.

You lot probably think Cradle of Filth are crap, but I saw them live when I was 15 and they were amazing.

I saw Cradle when I was 17..twice. Really enjoyed it :nervous:

Ever since they've associated themselves with H.I.M I've avoided them like the plague. Their old albums were brilliant symphonic metal.

Oh and Death Metal is not shite :nono:, the vocals may not be for you but the riffs and drumming are out of this world.

I've been listening to a lot of Parkway Drive recently.

Also Austrian Death Machine for the lolz

Some Anaal Nathrakh, hugely under-appreciated band:

Not for the lighthearted or those who only listen to Metallica.

Saw PD at the Camden Underworld by chance a few years back, never heard of them before either. Not really into Metalcore that much though, and my inner cnut probably wouldnt call it metal either. But hey they put on a decent show.

I have gradually shifted from Austrian Death Machine to Arnocorps for my humour fix. I can't stop listening to them.

Unfortunately, it has the gay "you are listening to....." shit. Only version I could find.

It's a bit different with those older bands you mentioned, especially since we know Ozzy didn't have a clue what he was writing about and did it only because it sounded cool at that time, so I have no problem listening to that. But there are some bands which have brought it to another level, where every single song on the whole album is just completely anti-Christian containing the most disgusting lyrics possible. And as a Christian I refuse to listen to that stuff, mostly because I cant stand when people talk shit about my religion. Nothing philosophical, just a personal attitude. Imagine there is an awesome metal band who sing that your mother is a whore and your father a paedophile. No matter how good they are I doubt you'd be listening to them.

Aaaaaaaaaaand so begins the "I'm more metal than youse"

"lol corpse paint is wel gay n that, an you hate my music ? mega lolz"

You do realise it's pathetic ?

If I liked how it sounded, it wouldn't bother me.

If you are religious, then your position is completely understandable. I am not, so those kind of lyrics don't bother me in the slightest. I also happen to believe that 95% of those bands aren't totally serious. Tongue in cheek, if you will.

Good post. I will listen to pretty much any genre of music, but for me its either the riff or the lyrics or a combination of both that allow me to get into the tune, and truly appreciate it. Any track be it death metal or not that preaches something that goes against my beliefs or I just find abusive for the mere sake of being abusive loses my interest and thus prohibits me from relating to it, which I think is the point of music.

Its all things to some and nothing to others, thats the individuality and magic of music.

Geezer Butler did the Sabs lyrics. And anything anti-christian is a ok with me.

Try some Lazarus A.D. How thrash should sound, in this day and age.

Face Down, the band Marco Aro fronted before he joined The Haunted. And afterwards.

"The Will to Power" is a ferocious metal album that will blow your head off. It is a classic. "The Twisted Rule the Wicked" is also top notch.

My favourite song from "The Will to Power."

I can relate Miha, being a muslim myself certain bands are off limits for me (behemoth for example). I don't think people who aren't in our positions will understand that, the mother father example is a good one.

Guess I was wrong there
