The Trump Presidency - Part 2

Rubio is a decent pick, has the actual experience, understands the US balance between hard and soft power and is actually competent.
He's a master at saying everything and its contrary. He'll sing another tune about Ukraine when the time comes, imo. You'll see his "soft power" at play there.

He's a hardcore neocon, ferociously pro-Israel, an advocate for regime changes, and a Iran/China hawk. You can also add South-America, especially Venezuela and Nicaragua, to the list. Those are his battlefields.

"Decent pick" or even "decent" is not something I would to use to qualify him.

At least she's worked in political jobs for all her adult life, whatever you think of her policies. She's a million times better than Trump, in my view.
That's an awfully low bar if that's where we're at now.

Can anyone explain what is this DOGE? What purpose it will serve?
I think it's supposed to work like this.

Jesus Christ it's like your actually in a cult, it's unbelievable.
Nah man, I am independent. There are some moves Trump is making already that I am not a fan of. As soon as he and his administration starts stinking it up and not following on the promises, I might be back voting democrat. However, I will not vote blue no matter who. It will matter who.

What happened with RedCafe philosophy of criticizing the post and not the poster? The number of insults I have received on this forum without ever dishing insult to another member is staggering. Where is the inclusivity?

whilst you are 100% correct in this regard you're also, you have to admit, a wind up merchant at times, so you're on occasion gonna get a few bites that go beyond the forum rules

F around and find out, as they say

Just bringing a bit of diversity to this website. It is needed.

You voted for a rapist. Well done, you.

If DNC offered me a better, organically emerged candidate, I would consider voting for him/her.
You’d think all candidates are better than the sexual predator and corrupt felon, but apparently not. Shows what people and a lot of Murica stand for.

Well, almost 76 million of people do not think that any candidate is better than Trump. I am not a big fan of a popular opinion as the groupthink has proven to be a flawed mechanism to arriving to a correct decision, but that's democracy so you gotta make the best of with the tools given.

Donald Trump is good for DNC. Hopefully they self-reflect and not cheat their own best candidates out of candidacy in the future. Hopefully they keep good people within a party and don't alienate them.

I also don't understand why Biden and the first lady decided to take a photo with a fascist, racist, rapist, "insert a label". All with a beautiful smile. Almost makes ya think they are all members of the same club.

Until Trump came along this was a normal event and symbolises the peaceful handover of power from one President to the next, the Biden's are essentially saying we're not stopping to his level, and guess who's missing from that photo

Not sure on this, does he have to resign his seat from Congress before he gets confirmed?

I'm not sure he does, I seem to recall that Harris didn't resign from the Senate until the day before she became VP

If he doesn't have to resign and doesn't get confirmed then I suspect he'll wreak havoc in the House just to piss off everyone

Exactly. While it's disgusting to look at the picture, it's an important part of our peaceful transition of power, especially given what happened 4 years ago.

He has already resigned, mainly because he wants to stop the results of the house investigation getting published tomorrow.

You mean what didn't happen 4 years ago!!

Such as ?

In 2016 I supported Bernie. In 2020 I liked Bernie, Tulsi and Andrew Yang. In 2024, more consideration should have been given to Dean Phillips. He was saying that Trump will be a president if democrats keep defending/supporting Biden and he was correct.

The first three aren't Democrats any more, so you may find yourself out luck on the Dem side going forward. Your only option these days is Trump or the opposition to Trump.

Tulsi and Andrew Yang are not, but Bernie and Dean Phillps are. Yeah, democratic party should do better at retaining good people and not substituting them with Dick and Liz Cheney. I do agree with you that I am politically homeless since 2016.

Sanders is an independent and Phillips is a relative nobody in the party. The only reason anyone has even heard about him is because he challenged Biden as a political stunt to draw attention to his age. Beyond that, he has no political viability.

Trump was a nobody in GOP until he became somebody in the GOP by crapping all over GOP established politicians. I am not saying that Dean Phillps has the name recognition of Trump, but Obama wasn't that known either until 2008 primaries. America/World loves to cheer for an underdog so I think Dean Phillpis can elevate democratic party from an untrusted and unauthentic organization it has become.

Wow, I did not realize Bernie is and has been independent since 1978 and has only been democrat during primaries. Thank you for pointing that out. Well, that explains why DNC establishment made sure he does not come up to the top. Bernie's popularity during 2016 and 2020 primaries are to me a clear evidence that DNC needs fresh people and fresh ideas.

I'm just one of 330 million Americans but I like to think I knew my country fairly well. But I did not and have seen many conservative friends of mine -- who are active in politics and like to think of themselves as men and women of principle, fall prey, one by one, to this madman of a clown and his court jesters.

That's not really accurate. Obama burst onto the political scene, as Senator, with his speech at the 2004 Dem convention and stole the show. When Kerry lost he was clearly the top contender despite the Clinton mafia trying to manipulate things for Hilary. Phillips isn't really comparable to either Trump or Obama at all.
