The Third Redcafe Sheep Draft

@Chesterlestreet there is even more friendlier format for junkies....
Gio post after he gets all the picks(think that was the case in all sheep drafts) and the deadline starts immediately. Of course there shouldnt be a deadline during the night so if he gets the results late the deadline should start from early morning, lets say 08:00 which gives you all day to send your picks.

That would work if everyone checks in regularly - but we know from experience that everyone doesn't. So, I think operating with fixed deadlines (they always start running at 21:00 and 09:00) is the best solution.

If the deadlines start running - randomly - whenever results are posted, this opens up for moaning and meltdowns. * With fixed deadlines, nobody has any excuse to complain if they miss one.

* Which is fun to behold, of course - but I think we'll get enough of them as it is.

How long is the first round, again? To be exact, when is the deadline for Round 1?

Wrt the minutiae, are the Tiers based on the keeper's overall standing, or their penalty saving prowess? eg. Krol is shite overall, but ace at penalties... That sort of thing. Or is the methodology still a work in progress?

I think it's a work in progress more than anything - but what we've discussed is primarily a way to give top class keepers some credit, i.e. make it worthwhile to pick a top class keeper (rather than a nobody, relatively speaking). So, the handicap would be given to any keeper who fits the "top class" bill in the draft - not necessarily to a keeper who is known for his penalty saving prowess.

It ain't 100% logical, in other words - but a measure to improve the status of keepers in general.

Got it mate. Thanks!

You lot better not go with our Round 1 pick. Consequences will never be the same.

Although the choice for this one seems big I feel there will be a lot of blocked even after the first round...

Yes. We need to work out the exact process, but the principles that better keepers will be rewarded in some shape in the event of penalties is sound and is what the managers need to know to inform their selections. And it's about a goalkeeper's overall quality rather than any particular knack for pens - that's difficult to measure and we don't really want the likes of Krul or Dida getting picked in the sticks ahead of some of the real top boys.

How many are there left to pick? Know I only submitted ours 5 minutes ago but the suspense is killing me! haha!

I think we've got 13 so far. Shows that the 24-hour timeline looks pretty fair.

Aye, I think it's fair. Last time - with the 8hr deadlines - practically the first thing that happened was that people missed it, and hours were spent debating on what to do, etc.

Better to have a wide margin in that regard - makes it much easier to just press on ruthlessly when someone does miss the deadline.

You got my pick, btw? I keep messing about with browser settings here, so the Caf is acting a bit weird ATM.

Sure hope so. But with a bit of luck many could actually pick up huge names in this round.

I ended up with a list of thirty players (and that could have easily been longer, but as I went along I started ignoring players I wasn't all that keen on - but who are still bloody good players). Out of these thirty I classified about half as "too obvious" - and then went for a guy I've always liked outside of that bracket.

Could have no doubt gone for a bigger/more obvious name and gotten away with it - but we'll see how it pans out. Perhaps ten managers have all gambled on the same GOAT, figuring it would be easy enough to pick up someone decent in the second round.

Who is in the sheep committee? So i can include the rest in the PM.

Should add the members in the OP to.

Indeed. I counted at least 14 world class players and some even among the best.

By the looks of it at least 2-3 have went for the big names :D. But let's see when Gio comes online how things pan out.

Wondering if we cock up 3 times, will the sheep fill in the country criteria as well?

Typically that's the case. The sheep will be along the same line of thought you followed with your picks, but in the end it's up to the sheep committee.

I went for a big name. Was a no-brainer for me. Thought of it more as a block than a pick. The tricky bit was picking the nationality.

Well, there were so many big names that some must have slipped through.

I went for a lesser-known player (in terms of these drafts), but I really wanted to block some of the world class players in this pool. There's too many of them, and I'm afraid some would have some really nice steals this round.

Yes - the nationality part is the tricky one. Makes one or two players real gambles. You don't want to get stuck in a pretty tight space with another manager, fighting over scraps (relatively speaking).

For this one going for a big name was no brainer. 2 more rounds to pick a lesser known player. Although 5-6 managers blocked in nationality would be fun afterwards. :D
