The Third Redcafe Sheep Draft

I also like the new voting system because it also indicates how dominant one team is over another. At the very least, scan voters can now provide some sort of input into the team through the scoreline that they vote for. This should also encourage some more discussions and activity in the match threads.

ROUND 1

ROUND ONE: EASTERN EUROPEAN PLAYERS AND THE BALLON D'OR

To qualify for this round, a player must have received a vote in the Ballon D'Or and must be from Eastern Europe. This area is defined as anything east of the Italian, Austrian, German and Finnish borders as set out in the map above. This also includes Turkey given its inclusion in UEFA.

If your pick is blocked, you will then be landlocked to that country's players and you must choose another player from the same country. Only where there are no players left from that country will you be free to choose from another country in your second or third picks.

If you choose a blocked player from any of the ex-Soviet Union states then you will be free to choose anyone from the Soviet bloc. The same applies to the former Yugoslavia or the former Czechoslovakia. For example, if you pick a Ukrainian player and he is blocked, then your second pick can be from anywhere in the former Soviet Union.

The country that your pick was playing for when he was voted for in the Ballon D'Or is what is considered for the purposes of this round. The Ballon D'Or is the award that existed between 1956 and 2009.

You have 24 hours.

@Gio how do we decide the nationality of a player? By the place of birth or by the national team? It's important for the 50's

Example would be Player X was voted for the Ballon D'Or in December 1975. Whichever country he is playing for at that point in time would be the country of choice.

@Gio, I have a question, if you don't mind answering. Actually, anyone in the committee can help me with this. I'd prefer to PM this so as to not suggest players to others in this draft.

Sure. Any points of clarity feel free to contact me.

so many choices and every single one of them screams round 2 :nervous:

wikipedia has the same thing for almost every year.

Wiki lacks several lists from the mid 70s to mid 80s.

RSSSF (Isotope's link above) is a better choice. The latter seems to lack nominees that received no votes (which wiki has), so it's less complete - but this is irrelevant for our present purposes.

Sent my pick, I'm kind of confused with this whole formate...

@Gio

Can I change my pick, or is what I sent you final?
The rules don't allow it. But I'll put it to the good folk in the draft to decide whether there should be flexibilty. An alternative could be no changing picks once all managers have submitted a pick.

Personally I'd say once a pick is submitted, that's it. It lends itself to the brutal nature of a sheep draft, plus then you open up the Pandora's box of people wanting to change picks, or flip flopping back and forth etc.

I didn't allow it in my sheep draft mainly because there's enough to keep track of already without people submitting multiple picks and then changing their minds on top of that as well.

I think you should decide but I'll give my opinion. Follow the rules. A lot of things could happen between the first and the last manager pick each round. Better to be clear about it.

Fair enough. I knew I didn't have the chance, but hey, I had to try. :wenger:

Knowing @Stobzilla, I have this feeling that he's either picked a player very similar to mines or actually blocked my pick. :nervous: I hope I'm wrong, though.

That's the idea really - to minimise the amount of work the draftmaster has to do.

I have one other question for the format. What happens if we miss the deadline, will it be considered a fail or there is a window before the results are published?

It's a fail. The managers lose the plot if the results aren't revealed immediately after 24 hours, so it's the best for all concerned to proceed regardless.

The others will have to escort the sheep back for you

Sent. :nervous:

This is my virgin sheep draft. Please, no fecking with my pick, folks.

@Gio Will you wait until the 24hrs are up before posting results?

My suggestion would be as follows (the most junkie friendly format, if you will):

Criterion posted at 21:00.

All results are in at 08:00 the following day.

You go ahead and post the results, but the second round deadline doesn't start running until 21:00 (giving all managers who need to submit a second pick until 09:00 to do so).

Rinse and repeat for rounds 2 and 3.
