Djoko and Nadal

Was hoping for a longer run in the doubles for him to build up some match sharpness.

So well all the top 4 advanced at the Rogers cup.

Nadal had an absolute marathon 1st set tie break winning it 14-12 :D

Nalbandian is such a wasted talent. He really could do well at this USO though, injuries permitting. Beat Soderling today, 11 match winning streak now.

Nadal a break down already. He's going to have to significantly improve on his performance in this tournament if he wants to stand a chance of winning USO but it's just his 1st tournament back so no worries as yet.

Kohlschreiber took the 1st set 6-3. He's absolutely hammering Nadal with his serve. It's almost unplayable

Rafa's needs to up his serve on the hard courts here..

Triple break point for Rafa at the start of the 2nd set. Finally he's getting in on the serve of PK

3-0 2nd set. Will do wonders for his confidence if he can win a Masters series here on the hard courts. It's been ages since he won a hard court tournament.

If he wins he plays Murray in the semis.

Nadal to serve for 2nd set at 5-3. Yet too many errors from him.

Frustrating game. nadal had around 5 break points in that game but as always failed to take even one.

I just don't get why he never challenges. Even at Wimby there were so many moments when he should have and in this last game alone 2 crucial points he could have challenged and saved a point and broken

Nadal wins 3-6 6-3 6-4. Was a good tough match that. Hopefully it helps him gain some more match sharpness.
Though if he continues to play like he did today Murray will maul him in the next match. Players like Kohlschreiber are why I don't rate Nadal's chances too high at USO. There are way too many big hitters who can really trouble Nadal in the top 30.

What do you do for a living Raul? Zipping around watching sporting events? You are a journo?

No, I just happen to be in Toronto for a couple of weeks and the tennis stadium is just down the road. That said, I got busy and haven't been able to catch anything this week.

Federer just about beat Berdych 6-3 5-7 7-6.

Berdych was serving for the match at 5-3 in the third

That's why I had not expected Berdych to serve it out even at Wimby. These players just bottle it against the top players.

So rare to see the top 4 actually all get through to the semis. It'll be interesting to see how their form holds up on the way to the US Open

What a disappointing match from Nalbandian yesterday. I knew Murray would win, but at least I thought it'd be competitive. Credit to Murray who played well, just another reason why Nalbandian is one of the best shotmakers right now, but will forever be in the 3rd or 4th tier of tennis players.

I think the commentators said Nadal played the ball, so he couldn't challenge. Is that a rule?

3-3 in the second set now after Nadal broke back out of nowhere.

Hmm I think you can play the ball and then challenge, but it has to be straight away, not at the end of the rally.

I guess he played out the rally, then. I was scratching my head over Italian idioms at the time, so I only caught the Hawkeye pictures showing it to be out.

It's fun now. Murray was cruising at 6-3, 3-2, then Nadal broke, held and was gifted two break points by a double fault with Murray looking like he was melting down, but he saved the game and went 40-0 up on Nadal's serve and broke on the third attempt. In other words he's serving to go 2-0 up.

Edit: For the match, as it turns out. Murray wins.

Well the hawkeye moment is no excuse really. Nadal's been very poor all tournament and that's why I've been saying since the French that there is no chance he will win the Us open. There are just too many big hitters who can beat him. And murray and jokeovich beat him absolutely all the time on hard courts. Nadal must be around 4th or 5th favorite.

Murray will not get a better chance to win a slam than the uso this year. He's played really well.

Missed the match, any link to highlights or a review of the game would be appreciated.

Federer is imperious so far. Pretty flawless first set for him.

Federer's been really living on the edge this tournament.Somehow Berdych managed to bottle it yesterday and Djoko wasted a fantastic chance today.

Murray will win easily imo tomorrow. He always seems to beat Fed in the Masters Series matches.

I wanted Nadal to beat Murray just to finally see a Fed Nadal match :(

Murray seems to be getting back to his best. If he stays fresh for the US open he will be a contender.

Murray always does well on these Hard Court ATP's. So it's no surprise really. Whether he can not bottle it against Federer in a Grand Slam final is quite another matter.

Murray is right behind him in the rankings. Can't be that far from catching him if he wins.

Murray breaks in the first game itself. Federer really looking a shadow of his former self this tournament (and year)

And the double break now.

Honestly the only one who'll beat Murray at the USO this year is maybe Berdych.

I'm praying Nadal has Fed in his half and not Murray.
