The second Ashes Test

I thought the umpires were very good.

Whoosh

Was meant as a joke to the English blame culture that exists in the media. Remember what the Sun did to the Euro 2004 Portugal ref.

Sorry. Not concentrating.

Maybe living in an irony free zone down under is getting to me.

Has there eve been an occasion in test history where a match has been lost after declaring the first innings?

What the hell happened?

Iit sounds like England have snatched defeat from the jaws of a draw if you will, in truly amazing fashion. I mean i know it was always possible but nobody quite belieed it would actually .....happen.

Collingwood saw things through to the bitter end though i see, hm.

I spent the whole night watching that, and for what? Absoloute crap!

So, i'm hearing that Strauss was given out wrongly with a pretty shocking decision and that began the collapse, but even so, 129 all out or whatever?

I've just done reading...

'No team in history has lost after declaring on a higher total than England's 551-6 batting first in a Test.'

Strauss wasn't out, dropping Ponting, declaring, a piss poor all round performance today plus Warne being on fire were the differences.

A performance of truly mind-numbing ineptitute. Only England could do that. Enough to almost make you proud...

2006 has to be the shittest year I can remember for our sports.

oh well, roll on the 2009 series! we should have a decent shot at that, doubt very much Warne nor McGrath will still be playing

The Aussie have seemingly got a ready made replacement for McGrath. Replacing Warne will be much harder.

In the midst of castigating the side for this abject capitulation, you have to take your hat off to the Aussies. They may not have the talent they had in the Waugh years, but no-one can match them for belief and will to win.

Shane Warne's surely the greatest spin bowler of all time

Apart from the brilliance of some of his balls today his accuracy was brilliant.

That ball that removed Pietersen was stunning.

There is a report here that Pietersen claimed in his autobiography that he would never be bowled in that fashion. Woops.

Cricket Australia just offered me tickets for the Sydney tests (I decided not to bother when first offered them). Pricey at over $500 for 5 days bit should I go? I'd be more tempted of I had someone to go with for the craic.

You should definitely go. England now have no choice but to come out fighting...surely Panesar will now be picked. They should be good games. Unless Flintoff's not fit, in which case it'll be little more than a victory parade.

What a shocker. Watched the first few overs last night, not a lot happening, England just blocking. Woke up this morning expecting to see them still batting, boy was I wrong! How the hell did they bat for two whole sessions and only score 69 runs? Another 40 or so and it would have been safe. What a bunch of incompetent cnuts. Bring them home now, it's just too embarrassing.

It was good ball, but he shouldn't have swept at it. He didn't sweep in the entire first innings. Why now? England bottled it. Sure Aussies were fantastic. But that simply shouldn't have happened. In fact, I don't think a team has capitulated so easily, before, when in such a safe position.

And I really dislike that fecking South African.

I have to say though, the barmy army are so much louder than the aussies, if only the team showed as much passion

I don't know if it will be a waste of $550 since I would be sitting on my own.

Australians have never really sung much at the cricket.

Although you could hear this afternoon a few renditions of 2-0 2-0 2-0 2-0

I doubt I will ever see a player as good as Warney again in my lifetime. He is simply a freak.

Feel sorry for Flintoff. You could just seem him in the last couple of overs thinking "What the feck do I have to do?". He tried his best but he is surrounded by rubbish. Harmison, Anderson and Giles arent international quality.

Giles. How the feck does he keep getting picked infront of Monty?

Oh, he's a great batsman that's why.

I've never been to cricket on my own, but I reckon it could be good fun. Going to football alone is great - though you're much more part of the crowd.

Dining out alone is one of the great pleasures of life, and since going to cricket is basically an all-day picnic with some entertainment over in the middle-distance, it could be pretty good

You could always take a laptop, Gazza-stylee

Monty has to be in the side for the next test if we are even to stop the aussies winning 5-0
