The Ryder Cup 2008 Thread

Europe need to get out of the foursomes with at least 2-2. If not, it's all but over.

The Americans cheering for European misses is really starting to piss me off. That doesn't happen in golf. Every player is normally cheered. I wouldn't normally be like this but I hope the Europeans improve and kick the American's holes because they deserve it with the way Azinger and the crowd are acting.

This seems to surprise you, not sure why.....just think back to Brookline.

Have to agree i'm watching it now and i've never before heard in golf(granted i'm not a huge fan) the crowd cheering at an opponents mistake.

It certainly wasn't the same 2 years ago when the europeans we're winning

It's worse this time. I thought things might have changed after seeing the crowd at the K Club last time out. Azinger actually told the press in an interview that he wanted the "fans" to cheer European misses. That's extremely disprectful, especially from a captain.

American commentator here this morning was insisting that they (Americans) had to go through a whole lot worse in Europe -- it is really pissing me off -- going to be rough at work -- having to listen to "USA, USA"

:(

The "USA USA" chant is very annoying. It just sounds so neanderthal to me.

Personally I don't really care who wins. I am English by birth but a naturalized American.

Well he was obviously watching a different Ryder Cup than i was.

At the K club i never heard any cheering for a bad shot regardless of who made it....unless i'm sorely mistaken.Whats worse is the American captain encouraging it, theres zero class in that whatsoever.

Fair enough go and win if you can, but thats downright disrespectful and classless

Exactly. I was at the Ryder Cup a couple of years ago, and every single good shot was cheered.

Just makes me want Europe to spank the yanks even more now.

The cnuts can't respect and cheer good golf regardless of who it is.

It doesn't seem like it's going to happen.

Weekly & Holmes are 2 up with 2 to play on Westwood & Hansen
Curtis & Striker are level with Garcia & Casey, but Casey has lost his putting ability.
McDowell & Poulter are 1 up on Perry & Furyk but the Americans have the momentum.
Mickelson & Mahan are 1 up on Stenson & Karlsson.

Europe need to come out of these matches level. Garcia needs to start playing.

Poor miss by Westwood. To be fair, he and Hansen should be able to beat Holmes and Weekly. The Europeans are not performing.

I know its not likely......The Americans seem to have the form for this one

Would make my fecking week though if Europe pulls one out of the bag and beats them

One up and 2 a/s. If Europe could pull these three out it would be massive and definitely give them the momentum for tomorrow.

If it stays as it is now, Europe will be two points down going in to tomorrow. I'd fancy their chances of beating the Yanks if that was the case.

Westwood misses

Eruption of cheers

I have no problem with cheering after a team wins the hole, no matter how it occurs. Its the crass cheering and clapping opponents errors all the way up the hole I don't like.

Big time. He has been a revelation. He is looking brilliant whilst Europe's alledged top players such as Harrington and Garcia have been woeful.

Harrington is not an alleged top player. three majors prove he IS a top player. Granted he hasnt had a great few days.

What I mean is that it was expected that he would be a top player in the Ryder Cup. He hasn't been at all. And by the way I am a huge Harrington fan!

Garcia and Casey score half a point against Stricker and Curtis. You'd have thought Europe could've won that. Curtis has only had one birdie so far in the Ryder Cup.

God I hope Europe can do this. Just have a really sick feeling they have left themselves too much to do.....

Get the big guns out early tomorrow and try and pick up some earlyy points and pile the pressure on I reckon.

But then what the feck do I know!!!

9-7 US. Their fans are wankers, utter wankers.

That is a little harsh. I have seen shots of the crowd and many are respectful. Clapping good shots by the Europeans and celebrating good shots for their own team.

Golf has attracted a whole new fan base and unfortunately many are not the same type of people that grew up around golf. Its a fairly unique sport and the football mentality doesn't really belong on a golf course.

The GET LEFT shouts at the last putt were what annoyed me. I blame Happy Gilmore:D

You can't tar the entire crowd with the same brush. One drunk moron shouting something dumb is out of order but its happens.

Wasn't one drunk moron though mate,I heard quite a few throughout todays play.Is disrespectful and annoying, and they should be told to get out of the course.

Ok several drunk morons.

Golf now has a lower class type of fan attending with a football mentality. It did start to creep in at the K Club.

Get over it, it might be disrepectful, but come on these guys are professionals, they do it in Europe when they host as well(albeit to a lesser extent)

Its not over yet:

Singles results
.........US....EU
2002 4.5 7.5
2004 4.5 7.5
2006 3.5 8.5

No, they don't. Seriously. They certainly didn't in the K Club anyway.

On form at the minute, the Americans deserve to win this one.

But your fans are absolute tossers so far....and your talking absolute bullshit if you think the same thing happened 2 years ago at the K club....In fact your so called 'lesser extent' was non existent.

Theres winning and theres winning with a bit of class....something the Americans are lacking it seems....your own captain going on air and encouraging this

Interesting singles line up. Faldo leaves Westwood and Harrington until the final two pairings, bold considering they need early momentum. The first pairing of Kim vs Garcia will be awesome, love watching both of those guys.
