Only 3 weeks to go to the Ryder Cup. Personally I can't wait. Faldo picks his wildcards after todays Johnnie Walker Classic. At 6pm he picks his wildcards. Poulter will probably be one. It's anyone's guess who will be the other? Casey? Monty? Clarke?

The American's have a fairly strong team and ironically are probably stronger without Tiger who doesn't seem to be a team player. Well his Ryder Cup Record doesn't exactly set the world on fire. Mickelson, Cink, Perry, Furyk, Kim, Leonard, Curtis & Weekly look very strong so far. Having 4 wildcard picks will surely aid the Americans? Azinger picks his men tomorrow.

Europe have a strong backbone of players like Harrington, Jimenez, Stenson, Karlsson, Garcia and Rose.

It's going to be a lot closer than last time around.

I don't know. But it certainly gives the Americans the edge as they have far more depth to choose from.

I think Poultier might be the odd man out. Casey should get one spot and the other is between Poultier and Clark IMO.

Poultier has had a full season to earn his spot, and he decided to miss the last two tournaments in favor of playing in the US. Clark has slowly been recovering from the tragic loss of his wife, and he won last weekend. He experience and the support of the tour on his side.

Faldo is bound to upset someone but I think he goes with Casey and Clark.

PS - watch him go with Monty and Poultier now.

Captains picks: Casey & Poulter

Padraig Harrington Ire
Sergio Garcia Spa
Lee Westwood Eng
Henrik Stenson Swe
Robert Karlsson Swe
Miguel Angel Jimenez Spa
Graeme McDowell NI
Justin Rose Eng
Soren Hansen Den
Oliver Wilson Eng
Paul Casey Eng
Ian Poulter Eng

I am surprised he went with Poulter over Clark. Clark has the experience and is a good team player, and Poutler's form hasn't been great recently. I suppose its only fair to go with the highest ranked players though, so no complaints.

I wouldn't of picked Poulter just cos he's a complete cock! But he did finish second in the Open so he has shown some glimpses of form at the top level.

Faldo works for US TV as a commentator so he has seen a lot of Casey and Poulter this year, that probably swung it their way.

Why not just make it the US v. the world

I was at Brookline in 99, what a day

Come on Alex, we can't even beat Europe. Maybe we should go back to the US vs Great Britain to make it a fair match.

Poulter is a wanker. I wish he wasn't picked. He has been quoted as saying before that he and Tiger Woods are the best two in the world. He may try and win something before coming out with shite like that. Saying that he was always going to be picked. I'm suprised Casey was picked over Clarke. I'm glad that aul Granny big tits Monty wasn't picked.

Poutler is flamboyant and he markets himself well. He has a growing merchandise and clothing line, and publicity helps drive his off course success. The comments about Tiger were as usual taken completely out of context by the media, and the gullible public believe everything they read.

"The question was asked where do I see myself and could I get to number one in the world. My answer to that question was; 'As long as Tiger Woods is playing golf, I can't get to number one in the world and nor can many other players. And quite frankly, if I do fulfil my potential I do believe the gap between me and second is achievable, so therefore I do have a chance of getting second in the world if I work hard and fulfil my potential'.

"Therefore, the comment was; 'It would be a dream to sit back one day and look at the world rankings and see it say, Tiger Woods and then me'.

BTW - I think he is a bit of a wanker.

Alright I take it back, it was second hand information that I had. I think he is a bit of a wanker also...

Have you seen Clarks record in the Ryder Cup. Its superb.
Im gutted he was left out, and hes hitting form at the right time.
COME ON EUROPE

I feel a bit sorry for Clark. Apart from Jiminez it's a fairly young team and I think Clark would have been a good choice as he was hitting form at the right time. Having said that it's still a very strong team.

Don't think Woods will affect the yanks too much, he's not got the greatest of Ryder Cup records.

Azinger picked Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan, J.B. Holmes and Chad Campbell as his wild cards. Strong enough but Europe look better equipped to win it in my opinion.

I wouldn't of picked Poulter just cos he's a complete cock! But he did finish second in the Open so he has shown some glimpses of form at the top level.

I like Poulter but to say he has glimpses of form is worng

The last time he shot 67 was in January while Clarke shot 4 rounds under 67 when he won the Dutch.

All players in the European have consistantly shot 67 in the last 3 months...

You have t worry, but I do like him

Poulter was higher in the rankings and he has played 15 tournaments in the US this season. When the pick was made he was mid 40s on the US money list, which isn't bad for a guy that plays both tours.

I would have been happy with either Clark or Poulter but the captain had to pick one. Faldo commentates for US TV nearly every weekend so he knows how well Poulter has been playing on US courses.

Faldo with a funny press conference there, not giving anything away as regards to pairings.

Good man, keep it too the day..

Looking forward to this, hopefully another 9 point win :P

Cant believe Europe are a shade over evens in the betting. If it was the other way around the US would be 1/2 on

On a warm summer's evenin' on a train bound for nowhere,
I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin' out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.

He said, "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces,
And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
so if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice."

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

Ev'ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
'Cause ev'ry hand's a winner and ev'ry hand's a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep."

When he'd finished speakin', he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

What a tool Faldo made of himself yesterday....

Faldo is such a feckin knobhead. Obviously I hope Europe wins, but I can't fecking stand Faldo

lay off Faldo.

He is not a bad lad. I like him. Bit of style about him - no harm there.

Anyhow - What a cnut Azinger was - No Holmes or Perry leading the yanks. Got 80's on Holmes and 12's on Perry on Saturday - everyone was backing them and they were into even this morning.

Alot of tipsters had Sergio to tee off for europe. Dont like his selections either

Donlt talk to me.

Had £20 @ 80's on Holmes on Saturday and watched as his odds went form 80's to 40's to 18's to 12's to 7's to 4's inside 4 hours on Monday with Skybet.

Then tried to lay off on Betfair - But feck all liquidity.

got it all back but no green

Jesus you must have thought you'd hit the jackpot!!!

80's could not get over it. Load of friends got on as well so was worth a punt. Then BBC ran a story monday that he would lead off with a Kentucky local and his odds went right.

It was more a debate on alot of the betting forums as to style of play as Holmes is a big Hitter and most fancied him as he could drive the first and 9th and would leave Perry on the Par 3's

Anyhow... Would have been nice

You follwoing any betting tomorrow Deco

Dont like Rose and Poulter as a pair, might back against depending how the day is going. Prefer the singles, money to be made there.

RYDER CUP OPENING FOURSOMES

Mickelson/Kim v H'ngton/Karlsson half
Leonard/Mahan v Stenson/Casey Euro win
Cink/Campbell v Rose/Poulter Euro win
Perry/Furyk v Westwood/Garcia Euro win

Pretty much agree with the above but I really think Cink/Campbell can beat
Rose/Poulter. Dont think Harrington is gona set the world alight in this tournament either. Maybe towards the last day maybe but defo not at the start.

So far, so good...long way to go yet

I'm streaming this in work:D

Harrington is looking a lil dodgy at the minute but he made a good 6 footer to half the hole so maybe he'll gain a bit of confidence from that

What an iron from Harrington. What a putt by Mickelson. Harrington and Karlsson 3 up though. Fantastic stuff.
