Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

The Magnificent 7
Put off watching this as I heard it was dreadful but after watching it, I really wish I saw it at the cinema. Good cast, quite funny, good action and generally really entertaining. I had a blast and the long run time didn't bother me at all. Loved it 8.5/10

@dumbo what is the black and chrome edition?

Colourfulness (is that a word?) is one of the things I liked the most in new Mad Max. But guess this might be a nice experience as well.

Saw Accountant today, finally. Really enjoyed the movie. Was really good action, and had a sort of a twist to it, although you can see it coming if you pay attention, and obviously watch a lot of movies.

Yeh, it was lovely movie. Saw this in the cinema last year, and it was lots of fun. Like you, I wasnt sure what to expect initially

Yeah took me a while as I wasn't paying attention.

Watched the Accountant last night, an enjoyable film which I'd recommend if someone wants an easy action one guy vs a whole arm film. There are two twists, I enjoyed the latter one as the first was as bit obvious.

Ghibli double at the Astor last night:

Spirited Away - the sheer breadth of imagination on show here still astonishes me, and the animation is tremendous. This was the Japanese language version, which I actually found to be inferior voice work.

My Neighbour Totoro - there's something deeply unsettling about the Catbus' dead eyed grin. I prefer the version where Mei starved to death but not by much. One of the Ghibli films aimed at a much younger audience.

Macbeth (1971) - Gritty, miserable and utterly nihilistic, exactly what I hoped it would be. I liked how cinematic it was and that it didn't go wild on the thespian front.

How many Ghibli films have you seen so far?

Those two and Ponyo, Grave of the Fireflies. I also rented the DVDs of Princess Mononoke and Porco Rosso but they were scratched to all hell and wouldn't play.
I'm going to the museum in April so I'll try and get the rest in.

On a side note, the Astor (the old revival cinema near me) is playing Stalker, The Mirror, Solaris and Ivan's Childhood on consecutive Mondays through February, as well as the entire Dekalog. You'd be in heaven, Nilsson.

That does indeed sound delish.

Office Christmas Party - solid 8/10.

Funny throughout, fairly corny plot but keeps you guessing and well played characters. Better than I thought it would be.

Sunshine
Directed by Danny Boyles starring Chris Evans, Cilian Murphy and Rose Byrne. I don't know if this film was super complicated or just me not paying enough attention, but I just had no clue what the hell was happening. Apart from nice effects and good acting I found it really boring and nonsensical 3/10

Whaaaat? Sunshine is a great movie, lovely soundtrack too.

I'll admit the ending is a bit fecked up, but I blame the immense gravitational pull of the sun, crispy bacon man and a nuclear bomb. Gets a bit weird.

Mononoke is very good. I also enjoyed spirited away, it was creepy and charming in equal measure. Would you recommend Grave Of The Fireflies?

Howl | http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2393827/?ref_=nv_sr_2

British werewolf movie. It is a B-movie but still quite good I think, the acting is decent and there is quite a lot of suspense.Kkept me interested throughout. As in most B-movies the cgi creatures aren't all that but still a good horror movie, way better than it's IMDB rating would have you believe. The Rottentomatoes rating is more relevant.

6/10

I'd try to watch Kimi no Na wa while it's still on the big screen

Mission Impossible Rouge Nation

I like all the impossible films, this is the best of the lot.
This is for me the perfect action film, spectacular stunts, gadgets , fights and a cracking bike chase.
Well written , well acted.
Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg are brilliant.
Not sure if many agree but for me an easy.

10/10

I totally agree. I like Danny Boyle films but this turned into utter gibberish after a good start.

The makeup was good too.

12 Angry Men (1957) - It's great. 10/10

Deepwater Horizon - Starts off quite well, in the end it's just American flags and patriotism. Bit meh 6/10

Rogue One - Liked it a lot actually. Probably my favourite Star Wars since the originals, and a lot better then The Force Awakens for me. The final 45 minutes is excellent. 3D is the worst though (in general). 8/10

Napoleon Dynamite - Somehow never saw this, thought it was really good. Such great atmosphere throughout and some fantastic scenes. 8/10

The Girl On The Train
Another one I put off watching because of bad reviews but ended up enjoying. Really well acted, especially Emily Blunt, who was superb. I liked the story and the way in which the narrative was told. Had a Gone Girl feel to it, which was cool as I loved that film. Had a blast with this one 8/10

Blair Witch

1/10 what a piece of crap

Ouija: origin of evil

a little bit less crap than Blair Witch.

3/10

Blair witch = correct

Ouija, are you having a laugh? It is a very good horror movie.

:( planning to watch both of these this week on nights.

Don't even bother with Blair Witch, it is even worse than the original, genuinely one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Ouija is very good though, I know you'll like it. (do a thread search on the reviews, everyone liked it.)

None of them has anything on The Exorcist series though, just a hint.

@pauldyson1uk , do not listen to that cretin. He is trying to fool you.

Also, haven't you also watched this? Your review came up on the thread search.

Look at what @Dirty Schwein has to say, he is like you and me a true connoiseur of horror movies, and not some dodgy Aussie:

Ouija 2: Origin Of Evil
Really enjoyed this. Not full of jump scares, instead focusing on suspense and had some really neat scare tactics. The final act let it down a little bit but overall it was ace, and the little girl was creepy as hell! Mike Flanagan has now made 4 good films in a row (Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake and Ouija 2), and it's definitely a horror director to keep an eye out for 8/10

Horror movies are actually my favourites. And is because of that, i don't rate them easily.

It follows, the babadook and the majority of the new millenia horror movies are crap and does nothing for me.

the last horror movie i rated positively was The Descent.

My standards are very high and its because of that, you have to trust my opinion @pauldyson1uk

Altough I do rate this bushdwellers rating of The Descent you know that I got my shizzle on when it comes to possession stuff, @pauldyson1uk

Besides the Conjuring 2 Ouija:2 is the best possession movie of the last years.

Doh what a donut , yes I have watched it.
I stand by my review, I was hoping that Blair Witch would be better than the original, the original is one of the worst horror/ghost films I have ever watched.
