Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Did you feel it was better/on par with the first film? I didn't enjoy the conclusion to the first one, the whole third act felt rushed/messy but I had enjoyed most of the build-up until then.
I cannot say it was universally better if you break it down to various aspects. There may be some more suspension of disbelief needed for the second movie, as opposed to the (relative) groundedness of the first.

That said, as a whole I enjoyed the second movie more than the first, as there were familiar elements to reward those who have watched the first movie, while never being stale.

12 Angry Men (1957)

Watched this on a recommendation from a former secondary school teacher, who loved movies with amazing plotlines. A movie which took place entirely in a jury room, with just 12 men talking throughout, that made it into the IMDB 250, piqued my interest.

All I can say was that it has aged well. This is one of those movies which managed to make me keep guessing what the protagonist had in mind, and what he was going to do next, despite the slow pace you would expect from a movie made more than half a century ago. Totally deserving of the plaudits it has received, worth a watch for the conversation alone.

8/10

The Big Lebowski

This movie was not bad..dude acted well, script really tied the film together. Dude acted well... I mean jeff bridges was good..at bowling. The dude abides.. I've lost my train of thought there.

I'mma gonna have to get some in n' out later.

Watched Blue Ruin and Bone Tomahawk in the last weekish.

Both fairly similar, ultra-violent journey films, though I enjoyed the latter, and its characters more (how can you not enjoy watching Kurt Russell?). I had no idea BT was that violent/ much of a horror film though, some scenes really are gut-wrenching (no side splitting laughter here, heh). Blue Ruin got less interesting as it went through, but I disagree that it was rubbish, well made and shot, interesting ideas throughout... but too much of an uninteresting lead. Still, I'd recommend both, if the premise of either sound interesting then you'll enjoy the film.
I thought they were both really good movies. Blue Ruin was very original and offbeat, Bone Tomahawk was along the same lines, not many horror/westerns out there...the infamous scene toward the end of BT is one of the most gruesome deaths I have ever seen in a film. Agree though that there were better characters in Bone Tomahawk.

already have them, not sure if to wait for them whole series or watch the first 2 now.

It is not a "cliffhanger" type of show so if you need your possession fix then I'd say go ahead. The opening scene is probably some of the most disgusting and gruesome I have seen in any horror. That sort of stuff that they will only show on HBO and Cinemax.

Wait until tomorrow and then you'll have ep3 as well, that is 3x47 mins of pure possession horror.

Classic films.

Another / Mark of the Witch

A beautiful young woman is driven into a dark underworld of demonic possession, desire, and extreme indulgences when she learns she may be the devil's kin.
The story was fairly straight forward without much subplot, which I would say is the main negative. But the acting and cinematography made it compelling to watch. Some of the dialogue was over the top, but that added to the films charm. It had a lot of unusual-ness to it, making it different from the norm of horror. But still worth the watch if you like obscure horror films.

4.5/10

Bite

While on her bachelorette party getaway, Casey, the bride to be, gets a seemingly harmless bite from an unknown insect.
Body horror. It's for people who love movies like Cronenberg's The Fly, or Carpenter's The Thing.
I liked this a lot, nothing you have not seen before but if you like this sort of horror, plenty of stomach churning bits, if Body Horror gets your gory juices flowing watch this.

6/10

The Last House on Cemetery Lane

A screenwriter staying in an old manor house in West Wales discovers that it's haunted by malevolent spirits.
Beyond bad, everything was bad , story , acting and the terrible twist at the end.
In fact the final 15 mins was funnier than most comedy's I have watched.

Listen to your teacher...they know what they are talking about.

Just watched 10 Cloverfield Lane. Thought it was rubbish. Don't know what all the good reviews are about.

I really want to watch Blood In Blood Out (1993). Anyone who watched it? It's a cult classic.

I seen this years ago, can remember it being kinda like boys n the hood style with latinos. Was ok and worth a watch but not brilliant. Although it was years ago when I saw it. Might watch it again next time I watch a film, maybe have a different perspective after all these years.

I enjoyed that but my little brother lives by it. It's his favorite film, even now he recites lines from it

The Fifth Wave
Had some time to kill so I put this on and it made the time go in slow motion. A film about aliens that focuses on relationships between humans and a forced love story coupled with obvious sequel setups. Really bad film. Avoid 3/10

Think I am going to watch Poughkeepsie Tapes tonight, I remember it being recommended as a found footage \ mockumentary film.

Also I am a sucker for serial killer movies.

I could not get to the end of this, think I lasted about 20 mins, totally unwatchable and for me that is rare.

That's a film I liked a lot. Very creepy. Sticks with you.

Was the production value too high?

@pauldyson1uk
I think you should check out Redlettermedia on Youtube and their bad-movie show: best of the worst. The titles they subject themselves to seem perfect for you.

Anyone have a ScFi flick to recommend for me tonight? I am in the SciFi mood.

Please, no obvious mentions since I have seen most.

Thanks for all the tips. Have seen The Machine and Ex Machina, both great.

Acquired Automata. In the process of acquiring Silent Running And Battle Beyond the Stars

I am not much for animated so might just give Akira and Fantastic Planet a miss.

Enemy Mine
The One I Love
Coherence

Thanks, seen Enemy Mine and Coherence.

Coherence was fecking brilliant. When I read the "synopsis" of the movie after I had seen it I understood just how many clues I had missed. Also that Swedish actress

I love those time travel movies, there are a few gems out there.

Edit: A lesser known SciFi gem is Arrival starring Charlie Sheen as an astronomer who discovers signs of alien life and then an alien conspiracy.

A couple I have not seen added to my watch list.

Check out the One I Love... it's a similar "concepty" kinda Sci-Fi as Coherence (though obviously not the same concept) it's not as good, or as well executed... but it's fun and kinda interesting all the same.

I've added Coherence, Exam and Primer to my list.

Two of the best time machine \ parallell universe \ scifi movies there.

Here is a Reddit of movies similar to Primer and Coherence:

A lot of quality flicks there. Time lapse and Triangle amongst the two best. Time Lapse is more technology and what happens when three feckwits stumble upon something they shouldn't, while Triangle is more horrorish \ thriller.

Triangle is one of my favourite low budget films. Time Lapse I haven't seen, also on the list!

Directed by the same guy who did Upstream Colour, and it's just as coherent, but in a different way.
I remember watching that film on my balcony one summer night when my wife had kicked me out of the bed and I thought the only obvious place to sleep was the balcony. You told me to watch it and I had so much alcohol in me it fecked up my head big time.
