Some films I've seen recently..
As some people I know (and usually trust) really seem to love it, I saw
Rules of Attraction expecting it to be a good film so bare with me as I feel the need to vent.
The good. Quite nice presentation. Cool score, loved a cheesy German hip-hop track in there that was just hilarious. Shot well.
The awful. If there's some point to or theme to this film at all I guess the whole film is some sort of exaggerated critique of today's youth culture or whatever, but it just left me depressed and I can't say I enjoyed watching it. At all. There's no real structure and though some of the dialogue and random details in the film are quite clever, I just felt like.. what's the point? It's just fluff if there's no decent story to tell. A bit like a slightly more sophisticated Larry Clark film that still survives on shock value alone.
That pointless Dick character who just appears briefly towards the end really takes the cake though. He's just awful. That whole bizarro Scarface scene is just fecking terrible and goes nowhere. I like Bret Eason Ellis stories usually, but this one did nothing for me. Bloody film buffs.

Decent thriller. The story is very good but it's tediously formulaic in places, but that's to be expected. "Let's get a decent love triangle in there" "Let's get a rookie female character that fights her way up in a tough world". And what was the deal with his low-tech black and white screen computer
Nice Saab too. That's seriously going to far to prove a point.
Entertaining movie nonetheless.

Beautiful Girls.
Beautiful film. Absolutely loved it. Great dialogue and well acted. Can't believe Scott Rosenberg, the guy who wrote this film, also wrote dross like Gone in 60 seconds, Con Air and Armageddon.

Oh and
Inglorious Basterds wasn't all that it's made out to be by most people. Some clever dialogue as usual, but I can't say I really loved it. What I did love though was the scene where he uses David Bowie's 'Cat People'. That was a great moment as I'm a huge Bowie fan.
Absolutely worth watching but no Pulp Fiction.
