Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Where did it originally come from? It wasnt composed for Requiem, I take it?

I like it.
It was. By Clint Mansell.

Mansell's score for π was followed up by his score for Aronofsky's next film, Requiem for a Dream (see Requiem for a Dream (soundtrack)), and the score became a cult hit. The trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers contained a rearranged version of the track "Lux Aeterna," utilizing a full orchestra and choir. The piece, named "Requiem for a Tower", was made just for the trailer. The orchestration was arranged by Simone Benyacar, Dan Nielsen, and Veigar Margeirsson.
"Lux Aeterna" has since become extremely popular, with both the original and the orchestration having appeared in a wide variety of commercials and trailers, including the trailer for the Red Sox-Yankee games in the 2007 baseball season, and trailers for the films Zathura, The Da Vinci Code, Sunshine, Babylon A.D. and the TV series Lost. It is also used on Sky Sports News and as the theme for Soccer Saturday.

A World Without Thieves. Parts of it I liked, parts of it I didn't. The 'fight' scenes have a very interesting feel to them. Not a bad movie overall.
Oh, Andy Lau.

Have you seen Chungking Express by the way? Imagine not knowing beforehand that Tony Leung was in the movie, and him doing an ultra cool first appearance accompanied by Mamas & the Papas' California Dreaming. Goosebumps so hard I couldn't stop the tears. I uploaded the clip on youtube some years ago, but it was taken down together with my old account due to copyright infringement on my favorite The Office scenes. :\

Have I seen Chungking Express? What do you take me for, a novice? Course I've seen it. Fantastic movie.

Do you like Andy Lau? He's one of my favorite actors.

I went out in the middle of the night to have a few hours walk listening to California Dreaming on repeat after having seen it. Should watch movies more often. I'm so lazy, always get stuck surfing, chatting and listening to music. Same thing every day.

I think I started liking him after watching Infernal Affairs. I just checked, and I've only seen him in three movies, and Tony Leung in five. Hmm, thought I'd seen loads of them. Gotta be more frequent in my movie watching.

Infernal Affairs is so much better than The Departed, how could the remake be so shit?

But Infernal Affairs III isn't very good, very confusing...

It's indeed bull crap. Seeing it get so much more recognition makes it all even worse. But then again, man is stupid by nature, and therefore man seldom develops her knowledge and taste in popular culture, making her even more stupid.

Only seen the first one. I've got the trilogy box set for quite a while, but haven't gotten around to watch the sequels yet. One day...

Watch the Warlords (Tou Ming Zhuang in Mandarin). Andy Lau gives a stand out performance there, as does Takeshi Kaneshiro.

Saw Rescue Dawn last night. liked it. Thought Christian Bale was good, nowhere near as wooden as he can be. It trades the bleakness of something like Aguirre... for a more formulaic hope but I still really enjoyed it.

Horrible, horrible ending though.

Pretty sure it's high up on my Netflix queue. Kaneshiro is also a good actor. Wasn't he the basis for the character in the Onimusha games?

Yes, and he's Zhuge Liang in the new Red Cliff movie. Tony Leung is Zhou Yu. Apparently they're great in that too. I've ordered the DVD of Part 1 off a specialist site (well, tried to - they fecked up my payment).

In Asia, they'll release Part 2 in Jan 2009. Outside Asia, they'll release a 2 1/2 hour movie combining Part 1 and 2, which is a bit shit really.

Invisible Target. The action and fight scenes are top notch. Some really good stuff in this one. The story was a bit convoluted and it got to be a bit long it seemed. But it's an action film, so when does that stuff ever matter. If you want some intense action, give this one a go.

Chungking Express. If you're a fan of Wong Kar Wai and haven't seen this, you're wrong. If you're not a fan of Wong Kar Wai, you're wrong. Great movie. You better love the song California Dreamin'.

Thought it was ages since you saw it? :p

Saw In Bruges last night. Classy, appealing and mature in a childish way. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Also an extra mention for the Tottenham remark.

Hellboy II

SHITE.

Had a lot of potential, top notch CGI and very good props, interesting fringe characters and a decent bad-guy. Yet it was still shit.

They went for a few cliche' angles - the good guy being 'cool,' which he failed miserably at. Plus some that would count as spoiler breakers.

The female actress was absolutely pathetic, tragic even. Same too the boss guy.

Shit dialogue, shit acting, crappy scripting with the only redeeming factor being the cool CGI and creatures.

Anybody seen Invisible Target? Got it from Netflix. Heard it's supposed to be pretty good, good fight scenes and all that. Also, anybody have a link for Tokyo Raiders 2?

You mean Seoul Raiders?

You'll find most of the asian movies HERE at a good speed. Make sure you seed to a 1:1 ratio though.

Anyone yet seen The Strangers? Looks a pretty formulaic contemporary horror from the trailer, but that line "because you were home" spooks me everytime I hear it.

That is the one I mean. Cheers for the link. Do you download a lot from there?

Yep, I get all my asian movies there, the selections are unbelievable, 10's of thousands. Use approved programs like utorrent to make sure your ratios are correct.
