Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

The Batman

I really enjoyed it, was not expecting much from Pattinson, but I thought he was very good.
Wright was good as Gordon, Kravitz was very good.
Overall a good film, maybe 40minsish too long, but I did not get bored with it.

7/10

Everything Everywhere All at Once

A cool offbeat movie. A bit long, esp in the climax, but well made. Good blend of weirdness in comedy and action with a nihilistic message that simultaneously doesn't take itself seriously and yet appeals.

Definitely give this a watch.

8/10
Is there a legal way (apart from cinema) to watch this?

Tokyo.sora(2002)

Film about 6 women living in Tokyo.

Modern master piece(that is free to watch on YouTube with English subtitles). I don’t want to spoiler anything and tbh it’s really just about the everyday moments of modern life.

@Vidyoyo

It’s not a South Korean film but it did remind me a lot of Lucky Chan-Sil.

Ooo thanks for the heads up. Will definitely put some time in this week to watch

Hey cinephiles....

Anyone fans of that Mark Cousins series from about 10 years ago, The Story of Film?

Well he's done a new one on Netflix - The Story of Film: A New Generation, covering the last 10 years or so.

Good stuff! Some interesting films shown that I've never even heard of.

American Refugee

Follows a family seeking shelter in their neighbor's bunker, when the American economy is in collapse, and the danger inside is greater than outside.
Instantly forgettable, the acting was decent enough, but the story was just boring, there is no explanation has to why it happened.
I did not connect with any of the characters, most of them were annoying.
Shame really , there was a good story fighting to be told.

Fire starter 2022

It was meh. I reckon it could have been so much more. I now am wondering if the first was just as meh if I rewatched it now

Our Father : (Netflix)

A new Netflix documentary about siblings who unite to bring to justice the fertility specialist who impregnated their mothers with his sperm without consent.

8/10

Ad Astra

Yea this is brilliant. Maybe the ending could have been better. Still one of the better films i have seen in the last while. 9/10.

Worst human being? This is pretty standard in hollywood. Writers dont get too much credit. Grooming to feck? Come on.

And many pseudo writers sell script for peanuts. Hardly a traversty and he could have said no at anytime

Its not coming across as good on his part. Signs that he has an ego.

But on the other side, just because you didnt make it in hollywood (which is very competitive) doesnt mean you are persecuted in some way or form.

There is a culture now days of prima donna characters who cannot be contradicted at all and if they are they start blaming. Having said that Cary is coming across as a bit creepy.

The Northman

Quite enjoyable movie. The Lion King meet Gladiator storywise.
Wished Ethan Hawk had more screentime.

Score: 7

Something something Dumbledore

Managed an hour or so. I don't remember much of what happened in the previous film so this probably isn't for me. I'm not sure it makes any sense, and Eddie Redmayne is exceptionally annoying in all of these movies. Even my kids were bored.

Argo

Rewatched it for the third time last night. Some dramatic license taken, but it stayed nominally true with the real life events & there was good tension throughout. Affleck has some directing chops.

Score: 8

Thought it was extraordinary. Amazingly well done epic, with great performances all around and sublime cinematography. Also feels like a film that will age extremely well.

This has just drop in reporting format. Wonder if I should wait a couple days to report the 2160p format, or just watch it already, getting so many good reviews.

Uncharted

Awful movie. Bad plot with progression that makes no sense. No chemistry between any time of the actors. Some lame jokes.

4/10

Yet still .... 4/10 ... dare I ask, what would it take for you to give 3, 2 or hell, even 1/10? :wenger:

A Violent Man

Set in a high security prison with almost all scenes set in the cell to give a claustrophobic feel to the film that is based on a dangerous prisoner convicted of murdering the mother of his daughter.

The film revolves around the ‘friendship’ with his new cell mate and the upcoming first time meeting with his daughter and the guilt he feels which battle the inner demons and his unquenchable need for violence.

Quite a gritty/thought provoking film

I saw this in the cinema and walked out before the end

it's not the sort of movie I'd usually watch, but I had a few hours to kill in the city. I mean, that's how shit it was, I walked out of the cinema to wait around doing nothing rather than continue watching it.
