Gaming The RedCafe General/Random Gaming Chat Thread

The Dreamcast VMU seems totally pointless now but I remember when I was a kid I thought it was amazing being able to play minigames on the toilet. Sega GT

@Olly Crackdown 1 is awesome!

Story is shit and the bosses are easy but it's a ton of fun!

Is it proper open-world? Can I drive around and do random stuff between missions?

Yeah man. Why drive though when you can jump across sky scrapers?

Anyone played any of the Ecco the Dolphin games? I've played the first one a couple of times on the Mega Drive Collection on PS3, but couldn't really get into it, and found it a bit weird (even a bit eerie, too). Just bought the second one (Tides of Time) though, saw it cheap on Amazon and thought it was worth a shot.

I played the dreamcast version, I actually thought it was pretty cool. Me and a mate played through it at roughly the same time, seemed challenging and fun at the time, don't know how well it will have held up though, from the screenshots it looks pretty bland. Suppose it was something different at the time, quite... tranquil too at times.

Yeah they seem to be pretty challenging with plenty to try and figure out which should be good. Plus it's always nice to have something a bit different to play, and Ecco is definitely quite different.

I still remember a pain in the ass bit where you have to go through a narrow pass and in there is loads of stinging weeds which kill you, was a nightmare when I was a kid.

That sounds similar to that infamous part on Turtles on the NES.
That part on the Turtles really wasnt too hard. IT was only the 2nd level and it just took a bit of practise

As for Ecco. I had the original on the megadrive. it was totally difficult but I loved it. There was an invincibility cheat and I used that to see the whole game. It was great

I've never actually played that bit in the Turtles. I got it a couple of years ago but only played a little bit of the game, I've only just seen other people talking about it.

I've only played the first Ecco for a few minutes but I did find it quite hard, mostly not knowing what the hell to do. Haven't got round to playing the second yet.

My copy of wind waker should be delivered tomorrow,

Thanks again for the heads up

Just downloaded Transistor for free. Anyone played it? I heard pretty good reviews.

Jeez my backlog of unplayed games, it's not funny anymore

then there is that the Battlefield Hardline BETA will last me until Evolve comes out, which will last me until The Order comes out, which will last me until Battlefield Hardline comes out, which will last me until Bloodborne comes out, which will last me until The Witcher 3 comes out, which will last me until Uncharted 4/Treyarch's new CoD/Battlefront 3/Rainbow Six Siege/The Division come out.

Wow. I swear I'll fit my social life in there somewhere.

Nothing too amazing overall, just a few charity shop pickups;

Crackdown (Actually this one was from Amazon)
Max Payne 2
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Curious George
Amped Freestyle Snowboarding
Burnout 2
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars - Already got it on DS but it was the big box PC version so couldn't resist.

The best one though was this that I ordered last week from Japan for about £70 off the normal price

Never played any Final Fantasy game before and dived into XIII because it's on sale on Steam and I was curious since it looked weird in an interesting way. I'm just a couple of hours in and the game cracks me up with it's Japanese weirdness. I am really enjoying it so far to be honest. I've always avoided JRPGs before, but I've got to admit that it's quite refreshing even though it's a bit hard to make sense of things at times. One of your mates is a black dude who has a little chicken hiding in his afro. I think that's what sold me on the whole thing.

FF7 is like the best game ever and is 50% off in steam right now (costs 5.99EUR).

I played these back in the day on the Megadrive, I remember it being the first next gen I've ever played. Had some great times with it but yeah, playing it in this day and age would feel completely weird I guess. Back then you were just amazed at those graphics and I didn't care about the rest of the game. I just swam around in amazement like an idiot without a purpose.

I had my PS3 on for five minutes and then it beeped and turned itself off. Now when I go to turn it on the green light comes on for a couple of seconds but then it beeps three times and the red light starts flashing. Is it buggered?

EDIT: It's come on now.

Well when I get round to playing it I'll see if I can figure out how to play it properly :D

Brilliant game.

They should remaster Max Payne 1 & 2 using the MP3 engine.
