Me and hobbers are playing this. You quickly accept it's a Pokémon rip with fun new features. The building is a bit shit but enjoying the adventuring. Fun game.
It's a bit like what I hope Pokemon will eventually sort of do instead of the tired same old crap in every game. The "pal" designs are akin to copy right infringement though.
 
I refuse to believe a company as greedy as Nintento will not sue Palworld at some point. They took down game music from Youtube, uploaded by small youtubers just for nostalgia sake. Most didn't even have ads running and they still took them down. Let alone something as profitable as Palworld.

Probably too late with this reply to be useful, but personally I can't get into any of the new ones. Most recent I played was Warhammer 2 though, and everything since then appeals to me less and less. I've spent more time playing the 00s historical titles (Rome, Medieval 2, Empire, Shogun) than any other game franchise/series etc, but just can't get over how "not realistic" the new titles seem.

That being said, Rome 2 with the mod Divide et Impera is the best historical Total War experience that exists in my opinion. And Attila is pretty fun even in its vanilla state, but gets more interesting with the medieval 1212 mod.

Yeah, my brother is really into the Warhammer ones but never tried them myself. Will give the Rome 2 mod a go! Haven't even touched the 2nd one because of how good the first is. Saw the videos for Pharaoh and it looked terrible.

Warhammer is fantastic for the battles and huge roster diversity. The campaigns are quite shallow on mechanics, but very large and fun with cool hero units.

Rome 2 and Atilla are both good games, though very different tonally.

Three Kingdoms has the best campaign play with very elaborate systems, but a very samey roster.

Shogun 2 holds up fantastically and if you've never played a Fall of the Samurai campaign you're hugely missing out.

Empire let's you conquer the world as the Dutch.

The Total War Saga games are all crap with Pharaoh being the worst offender.

Vanilla Rome 2 was trash when it came out, but they patched it and added features for years after release and it's a pretty good experience in its own right. Other than being far too easy and simplistic, it's fun enough. I might suggest toying with that for a bit to get used to the systems before diving in Divide et Impera, which uses and expands on those systems in ways that bring it a lot closer to Rome 1 and fixes pretty much everything wrong with the base game (as well as adding tons of factions - my favourite campaign involved taking over the Middle East as the Mauryan Empire before going toe to toe with Rome in a massive east v west war).

Pharoah, Three Kingdoms, whatever that British Isles one was called...it all just looks like such a pale, pathetic mockery of what the series used to be. Doesn't seem like the battles have any depth to them anymore beyond using commander's magic abilities and basic rock paper scissors gameplay.

How long before we label Embracer the worst company in video game history? The amount of damage they've done to the industry in such a short time is staggering.

I will never understand how the gaming industry continually cancels or kills off properties that have fanbases clamouring for the chance to fork over money...and at the same time dives headfirst into things like a Suicide Squad/Borderlands mash up that nobody wants.

:lol: The relationship does develop but yeah he’s an annoyingly cliched kid. I still really enjoyed the game though.
 
Played the first Kingdom Hearts as part of that Remix collection thing. Just going to first of all say that I'm only in it for the Disney side of things and couldn't really give two shits about the FF characters. Majority of the game is great fun, with some highlights being Halloween Town, Agrabah and Monstro. The game particularly shines when it leans into the Disney. I do feel that the balance flips too far the other direction in the final third of the game. The natural endpoint for the game feels like the Hollow Bastion chapter. Really, the game should have ended there. It's suitably challenging, has a fair few decent puzzles, and it has that whole 'end game' feel down quite well. The fecking Maleficent Dragon boss was an absolute pain in the arse to fight against. Storywise, the game reaches a good conclusion in that section.

The whole last 'End of the world' chapter and everything attached to it is pure bullshit, however. Too many waves of enemies and far, far too many boss fights. It's too repetitive. The scale up in difficulty is also ridiculous. Chernabog is possibly one of the worst designed bosses I've seen in any game. It also contains too many incidents of 'stupid videogame logic'. One example of this is using magic and summoning. You are flying during this boss fight. You can cast magic whilst flying, but you can't summon. Ok...that makes no sense. To summon, you have to land somewhere and summon. The only viable way of doing this is to land on Chernabog's shoulder...which you fall through half the time. You can literally fly through the boss on many instances, which is just fecking stupid. Not only that, but the boss himself contains one particularly bullshit move where he forces flames to appear all around him, which deal a ridiculous amount of damage. After lots of cursing, I managed to get through the fight, only to find that you have 4 more boss fights before the end of the game. Some of which you have to do back to back without the option of saving.

Unfortunately, that last chapter left a huge blemish on the game for me. It's a really strange design choice and makes me question how many people actually finished the game. Questioning whether to bother with 2 and 3...and that's without even getting into the stupid amount of side-games in between the main series.
 
Dunno if anyone else has posted already but if you’ve not played a game called Tchia yet then I can only recommend you try it. Beautiful little sandbox open world game, although to call it that is a bit reductive.

Amazing little surprise (to me anyhow) of a game.

Same, I think I'm on chapter 6 and it's a decent game but not great. Will stick with it because of the sequel that was free but I don't love it.

I know people are all into FF7 rebirth right now but based on the clips Dragon Dogma is the RPG that’s really caught my eye. Looks terrific - both visually and in terms of how smooth the combat appears to be.

Been trying out Marvel Snap this weekend.

It's a lot of fun for a free game and very addictive.
 
I was really looking forward to Dragons Dogma 2 but apparently they've fecked it hugely. Removed a lot of everyday features in games and made them micro transactions. The director said in an interview that they didn't like fast travel in games and you just needed to make travel fun....guess what? You can pay to get fast travel. Why would you do this shit after Baldurs Gate 3 showed how developers should make games.

That’s disappointing. The game has looked terrific in trailers. Feels like one that’ll be a gem by the time I play it (next year I guess).

Haven't played the second game yet, but you also needed port crystals, which were limited and relatively scarce, for fast travel in the first game, and it took a long time to get the option in the first place. So it sounds exactly the same, only now they've made them available through microtransactions which is never a good look.

I rarely, if ever used fast travel in the first game. Yes, it meant having to do long treks from time to time, but I kinda liked it as it meant I had to plan certain side quests more carefully, especially if there was a risk of ending up in the middle of the wilds when night falls. It might sound like it's just removing features that have become genre conventions, but it's part of the adventure really.

I'd also earmarked this as a potential purchase but that has completely put me off. Apparently changing your character appearance, fast travel and potions are all behind a paywall :lol:

It's fecking tiresome. Putting micro-transactions in an offline single player game is scummy behaviour and I hope the game tanks.

Absolutely, same as any other artificial inconvenience or grind designed to sell microtransactions. I'm just not sure that's what happened here, because it was the same in the first game but without the microtransactions.

People say all these things are easy to obtain in-game so it's just some extra greed from Capcom as opposed to actual walling off of content or progress. Still shitty but at least less "mobile game-y".

To get round the port crystals, there are 4 in the game and this will help get the money to buy fierystones.

 
I'm finally playing Chrono Trigger for the first time ever. For some reason I just never got around to it. I still rate FFVI as the greatest JRPG of all time and I know many people put Chrono Trigger next to or even ahead of it, so I'm curious to find out how well it's held up.

Would've been nice if this was available through Switch Online but I doubt that's ever going to happen at this point, so I settled on the Steam version. I can't compare to the original but it seems fine so far.

It's basically the TV show version of Game Dev Tycoon and it's got a lot of potential. It's still in Early Access but has more than enough content to enjoy.

I'm currently on to Season 4 of my pub/drug empire Comedy/Drama show about a former soldier turned pub owner/drug importer and his straight edge sister, who is dating the lead's best friend - a drug dealing teacher. It's the shittest show ever but people watch it so I'm raking in the cash.
