The Redcafe Champions League Draft

Does kp only have the four non winners at the moment? Vieri, Kily, Heinze and Riquelme?

He's going to have some job drafting, I'd suggest most of those need to be replaced and they can only be done so by non winners.

Game with NM is finished now, so you can make your pick Fergus

Fergus -
Theon -
Edogen -
Gio -
Akash -
Ralaks -
TITO -
Kps -

From the Iniesta/Messi/Pirlo combination which would have seen Theon run away with the whole thing

I see, yeah! Be wary of the Ronaldo/Messi combination coming soon though, either from me or kps!

Theon did try his hardest to convince me that Ronaldinho was best for me but you can't turn down Messi can you?

If you ask me, even if still available he should have. There's areally obvious pick for him that will make him even more immense than Messi. More so now that he knows Ronaldo would be facing him next and up for grabs after.

You might've just made up his mind!

Akash vs Gio is interesting considering they pick after each other and theon might throw them a star name to pick!

 Knew it. Facing Gio for the second time as the assistant manager.

Hopefully you will have learnt a thing or two about annoying him to the point of nervous breakdown Young Padawan.

Some tasty fixtures there!

I'm on a roll! This should be my full time role in drafts!!!

Still think he's going to go for Ronaldinho.

You guys need to wake up to the fact there's an immense amount of quality flying around in certain areas, less so in others.

Yeah but you know how many votes certain players bring in, Ronaldinho is worth atleast 5 votes from people who consider him as thier favourite ever player!

Wasn't enough for Snow, was it?

As you approach the final those things even out and the glaring misfits/mismatches decide it.

Midfields are crucial early on but you will always have enough players going around for the two finalists to have immense midfields. It almost always ends up being about an attacker vs. defender mismatch ala Eyzaguirre.

That's why having CL-flexibility was going to be so important going forward, it will be almost impossible for kps to win this as it is. I can't see him resolving all his weaknesses and he probably can't even pick Messi if he beats you. Straightjacket.

The scarcity of top quality non-winners among the eliminated teams is quite telling about the importance of prioritising those, it has already shown in the first round!

Not knocking you kps but you really have your work cut out and will probably have to take some risks and make some odd picks to afford you flexibility going forward.

I'd say your first five were excellent, then it all started going a bit weird. Moller was a turning point, changed your entire sequence and the relative strength you could pick in other roles, never got that TBH.

It always goes a bit wrong somewhere, though I was and am delighted with Villa and Muller, Moller is a great great player but underrated, and Aimar was to afford me some flexibility.

Yeah, you still get to pick others you wanted but if you move the whole thing one turn earlier you could have got better on your weaker players. EDogen was almost flawless until he prioritised Sagna over a goalie.

It's easy to comment with Monday's paper though, I agree.

Definitely, think I wasted two, maybe three picks which would've left me in a strong position now if I hadn't had done so.

EDogen is one of the best when it comes to drafting order. I bet he has a large database with lists of different criteria with him stored somewhere. Not much to do in Sweden anyway!

To be honest I messed up a couple of picks and I realised that pretty soon after. Always happens! There's a couple of positions where quality non CL winners are non existent, something I realised quite late. No one's team is perfect though, still think I have a chance with a few creative picks.

I have some great lists indeed, love these drafts!

And about Sweden, I am in Berlin right now so you may have a points.

Yes, that's what I meant. You have at least three if not four winners that don't all desperately need an upgrade but you could do with changing their CL status and there are players out there to do so. Your priority here should be gaining flexibility as going forward you have potentially two further picks and those will most likely be winners.

You don't want to leave a Messi, Zidane or Ronaldinho unpicked because you couldn't take them on. I reckon one step change improvement and two CL-status switches is what you should be aiming for.

It's a tall order sticking to Riquelme when Fergus has Makelele, but my starting point would be upgrading Cambiasso who is a monstruous waste of a CL slot really.

That Brazil side with Cafú and Rivaldo-Ronnie behind Ronaldo was awesome, wasn't it?

Theon was last seen engaged in converstaion 13 minutes ago.

Seriously?

It's really not very difficult mate!

Okay lads sorry for the delay, the romantic was calling to me but...

Maldini!
