Chelsea's back 4 that won the league twice in a row and conceded 15 goals and 22 goals respectively had Gallas as a left back or a right back. Not a center back. It's no different then picking Thuram as your center back instead of your right back. It's about defense. He's played numerous times against Giggs and it would be great if you could reminisce those times that Giggs got the better of him.

I don't understand why people are making a deal out of it. Its simple. He's a cracking defender with 84 caps, he played for Chelsea like the rest of our back 4 and he's a non CL winner.
Its like having Winterburn, Adams and Bould then having some random bloke at right back.

I was doing alright though and it was going according to plan, but I have a feeling its going to go tits up this round.
Gallas was good but at this level at right back he is one of the weaker options still a good player for Chelsea in that position though.
Oh I was going to say all you needed was a quality defender. I missed that your team looks strong ao far as do a few others. Tactics wise how some of you line up will be key.
I think it's an excellent pick in reality, but do agree some may punish you for not having a RB specialist. I won't think of it as anything but a rock solid back four with a full understanding of each other's games.
Your right flank is significantly weaker than your left flank though and, as pointed out, you may need to reinforce it. All top class RW are CL-tied so you really really need to make room by having 5 non-CL.

Can't say you know too much about defending if that's your main gripe. When was Gallas at his best? As a center back with Arsenal or playing for Chelsea, mostly as a full back? The most important thing about defending isn't individual skill. It's coherence. How else did Greece manage to win the Euros. How else did Málaga or Anorthosis Famagusta reach the quarter finals. How else did Chelsea dominate the league so easily?
Coherence is absolute key. You can mention Makelele all you want but our position hasn't been filled in front of the defense and Makelele wasn't some kind of god at defending. He was good at it.
You just focus on filling up your own defense and we can compare penis sizes after that.

Nah with the type of system we've got i'm delighted to secure Ozil tbh. Coming in from the right the only 2 i'd possibly prefer are Messi and Robben, but with Messi we'd play him centrally and Robben would destroy any link up. Theres right backs out there that are questionable defenders so we're happy to have an out and out defender there.
