And now I am pleased to go with Ciro Ferrara. Quality centre back.
Gallas right back?
Yep. Gallas could play all across the back four and often played right back with Carvalho-Terry central.
Welcome to the team: Jocelyn Angloma
I remember that. I used to like him before he went mental.
My memories of him now are him crying in a Arsenal game and him threatening to score OGs if he didn't play at CB.
Good player but a nutter
Yep, another 1 that i hope people remember in his prime. He was a fantastic defender on his day. Played a massive part in Chelseas superb defensive displays under Mourinho.
Joaquin
Happy to take the man who, between the fall of Figo and the rise of Ronaldo (i.e. 2002-2005), was the best right-winger in Europe.
Best in Europe is a stretch but good player.

Beckham and ___ I would prefer to him off the top of my head.
Delete mate, the latter has not been picked
I don't remember him playing right-back. I remember him filling in at left-back occasionally. Either way, he's not a natural in either position and he's likely to chuck a tantrum if he's forced to play there.
That's why I didn't want Anto to mention Evra in his post. Balls.
I was always going for him.
And now I am pleased to go with Ciro Ferrara. Quality centre back.
Oh k interesting topic but lets not derail another draft thread. Love the Montero piece, a current azzurri defender reminds me of him physically and in style.
Giorgio Chiellini

He played right back often when he first moved to Chelsea under Ranieri with Terry and Desailly in the centre. He also played on occasions under Mourinho. He also played there at times for his country. He'll not offer much going forward but as an out and out defender theres few better in their prime.

I tend to find it becomes difficult justifying a player who is primarily a cb playing as full back. Doesn't seem right considering the fact that your putting a team together from scratch and could have chosen a RB that always plays RB.
You do happen to have picked the two players I was spammed with PM abuse for. Ferrara was mentioned (about five words) in the Montero piece earlier and Theon made me edit it because it "talked him up"
Burn JJ at the stake as well!
I really don't remember a draft with people getting so uptight about players being mentioned. People usually speak freely about picks, post articles, compare with contemporaries and teammates... If there's a massive hidden gem they obviously don't give it away but Patrice Evra? Ciro Ferrara? The right winger above? Really?
You really underestimate your fellow managers if you think they don't all have them shortlisted (or had them and got rid because they don't fancy them).
The greatest fun in the draft is exchanging views on the players and how things will work, etc.

He wouldn't be playing right back in any other set up, its only because he's surrounded by those players that he played his best football with. That and he hasn't won the CL, pretty much the only defender left that we fancied that this applies to.
Take Angloma for example, wasn't on my radar at all though he definitely should've been and I ached him many times when he was at his peak. If someone had mentioned him earlier it would've benefited me and maybe adversely affected the person that ended up choosing him.
Yeah, I have to say when Angloma came up I was pleasantly surprised. I mentioned a bunch of Premier League players though, mostly United ones... Quite different.
I actually edited the Ferrara stuff as requested by Theon as someone could have conceivably not thought about a 90s Serie A defensive stalwart, but Evra? Come on.
I'm not going to try and impose some arbitrary line on how well known a player has to be in order for him to be mentioned before being picked. This way is simple - it's just a clear rule.
Just don't mention players before they're picked, I don't see the big deal.
I purposely didn't mention him by name hopefully my hint was not too obvious sorry about that.

I'm not disputing the rule, I'm questioning the aggravation from NM over having mentioned Patrice Evra, a CL winner with Manchester United of all teams.
He is totally convinced I have ruined his draft, I think that is a bit far fetched.
That's all.
I'm not arguing we should all be throwing names around.
