Been tried, the problems are that you need an admin who has to approve every trade. Otherwise people can "cheat" because they are friends on the forum etc. Say you and I have a good relationship and I pick up two great strikers and in the end just want to use one, I can then give mine to you for a much weaker defender or whatever for no reason.

This wouldn't be fair on people. The same thing goes if say I am not too interested in the draft, I may just accept that you take my best player because I couldn't care less.

I am unsure whether or not people have tried it with an admin who approves/rejects the transfers, but I haven't seen/heard about that happening at least.

Fair point people could make alliances behind the scenes which is unfair this way is more clean.
 
I've said it before, but I think a transfer window could work when we're half way through the draft, instead of at the end. There's no point having one right at the end since everyone's already built and planned their team by then. You'd have to be pretty stupid to have an extra number 9 lying about.

Having one half way through would be great since it won't be restricted to like for like swaps. For example, I could trade Kohler for Nedved if I'm struggling to find a good attacking midfielder and Gio has another in mind he could replace Nedved with.
 
yeah... really slow going today.

I think max 6 hours should be the limit.
 
We all set for changing it to 6 hours after the 4th round picks are done so?

Fair point those I can some teams with players who already play best in the same position and we are 4 picks in. You would have to come to some agreement with the others.

I think in the all-time draft they changed it very early on from 12 to 6, with each player being allowed to overrun to 12 once. And in the scenario you brought up, I'm sure people would give it a little extra to wait for a person to wake up. But it would speed things up dramatically during the day.

As long their is that flexibility for people who aren't slow on purpose and perhaps give a reason beforehand then I'll be ok with it.
 
I agree with TG that in general 6 hours is a really harsh time limit, so it shouldn't be brought in as an absolute rule. But in certain circumstances it would be fine which is what causes the problem.

For example after Jake's pick it is TG and in that scenario it really is common sense that if you're logging off you should just PM your pick to someone. For something like this even 6 hours is too generous a limit. But then you get the other end of the scale where the draft could smash through 6 or 7 picks in a few hours and so someone is next up without ever expecting to be - in that situation 6 hours is really harsh.
 
I find it incredible that this problem crops up in almost every draft that takes place. You'd swear that the participants weren't aware of the responsibilities (for want of a better word) they have to ensure the game runs smoothly and efficiently.

I wouldn't like to criticise Jake to be honest, sometimes people have stuff to do and an online draft is pretty unimportant in the grand scheme of things. In general Jake has been pretty quick at getting his picks in on time.

I think 9 hours is a healthy compromise. But the main thing is to use PMs and assistants as much as possible. That was harder in the first few picks because managers had to be sensitive to who was being picked and react accordingly, but as the teams begin to take shape it should be easier to forward plan.

Yupp, I said to him in the PM that I think alot would have pencilled Pires in - real lack of quality wingers IMO and Pires was terrific in his prime
