The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Scorecards taking their time! Close decision ahead with lots of recounting going on clearly.

Majority draw. DeGale got the single decision, 2 draws.

Interviewing both fighters at the same time is funny.

I dont see what was so special about the fight, the chisora vs whyte, now that was a proper war. Dont get all the post fight hype over this one

feck off Floyd, your fighter got away with it with the last round there.
Crying cause they want to move up as all conquering champ and now theres a road block

Wow that was a great fight, overall I think it was a fair result just a shame that detestable bellend Mayweather has to sour the moment by whining like he always does. No surprise he mentions his fights too "me me me me me" such an arrogant douche.

Don't think they want the rematch at 168 though, seems they want to move up a weight.

What a fight. Fair decision, though I had the win for DeGale. However, as I said earlier, a lot of DeGale's shots were hitting Badou's arms, while Badou landed with cleaner shots. DeGale looked more active (quite deceptive in that regard), but Badou did more damage with his punches IMO.

Floyd and Badou look so uncomfortable, clearly don't want the rematch at super middleweight.

Yeah Jack was careful what he said. I think he'd do it again but don't think Floyd or his team want him to. In fairness though they said before the fight and during the fight he was moving up. I think Jack is better than people give him credit for, he looks ordinary at times but is clearly hard to fight against. Equally in fairness to Jack and Floyd he did clearly beat Bute in his last fight so they would be pissed off. He won that fight convincingly and got called a draw so he probably is quite bitter and Bute tested postive after it so they're probably even more pissed off!

I thought it was a draw though and a fair result I hope they do it again but if he has to move up he has to move up. In the Sky interview at the end Floyd interrupted it and said the same thing again and (almost) looked apologetic for it but it seems they had their mind made up already. Bit of a shame they probably won't do it again. They're far and awa Number 1 and 2 in that division.

Fair play to that referee as wel, had a good fight anyway and let it flow but then got a clean one right in the face! Think it was the cleanest punch in the fight that.

Also not to do with the fight but I really like Sky's current commentary team, think Froch is interesting and works well with Adam Smith, the other pros are good as well. Much improved on what it was.

Froch is far better when he's not got a personal interest in a fight. Last night I thought he was poor in the DeGale bout. Let his own bias drive his narrative and scoring against DeGale. The fight before however, he was much better. I like his work on the whole but there's more to do.

Adam Smith, I used to enjoy but I'm really cynical about now. Similar complaint to Froch but without the personal bias, he presents a false narrative and is willing to repeat utter nonsense over and over to the viewers, who can see otherwise, in favour of the house fighter. I've really turned to dislike him as he mixes the business and promotional side of his work into his commentary non-stops and rarely calls anything as it is.

Of the limited options available, Ed Robinson would be a far better lead commentator than Smith for me.

Yeah Froch scoring was a bit odd but in fairness he did say he was trying to score how the judges would (albeit he got it wrong!) I think I prefer it to Watt cos they have fighters who have recently retired or still fight so know how scoring and modern boxing works. Jim Watt didn't seem to have a clue. I think there may always be a degree of bias with these fighters but I'd take that over what is used to be like.

Sky will always pick the Hearn/Matchroom fighter in close fights but it must be a hard job to do. It's the same as an English team playing in the Champions League commentary will always pick them cos it works for their viewers.

Yeah I liked Ed Robinson as well. I think it's a big improvement on what it was and they actually seem to be trying to improve it all the time instead of playing it safe like a lot of sports programmes do. It could definitely be better still but it would take time to do that. Also I may be slightly generous cos didn't py for the fight which considering some of the shit Sky put on box office was a surprise!

was in the stub hub waiting room from 9am but at noon i'm number 21898 in the queue! fckin joke site
there wasn't even a queue system for the december release and the site was crashing over and over again at basket phase

Shite that, it does seem a bit of a joke I'd agree. My mate logged on to it at half 11 and was 2000 in the queue and got tickets so dunno how it was working. Seems to be a raffle.

I blame Eddie Fckin Hearn. wanker

I was wondering if there were many boxing fans on here and was about to start a boxing thread until I found this.

Looking forward to the Haye v Bellew fight even though it probably won't last long and then the Joshua v Klistchko fight. I hope both Haye and Joshua win and hopefully we get to see them up against each other before Haye retires.

Garcia/Thurman same day as Haye/Bellew

Judah's return, Charlo title defence etc

A lot to look forward too before that

Love Big English and whilst Little is very talented, I'm not a huge fan! Wonder if anyone will actually pay for that?!
Unfortunately, people will, which is a shame. They'll still be making a loss on the night though you'd think.

If anyone gets the chance, watch the pre-fight press conference for Thurman-Garcia (scheduled for 4/3/17).

Garcia's dad utterly disgraces himself with an unbelievable racist tirade against Thurman. Completely and utterly loses it, probably on drugs.

Hope Thurman KO's Garcia, purely because of his bigmouth dad.

Dunno why Hopkins got most inspirational, one of my favourite fighters but that makes zero sense to me

You must not know Angel, he does this all the time

Probably not really many other choices and probably just wanted to give him an award cos he's meant to be retiring.

Agree with pretty much all of them really other than that. I thought Santa Cruz vs. Frampton may of been fight of the year but each to their own.

Jack has vacated his title as well, no messing round at least. I'd imagine Hearn will manage to get it on Smith setting up Smith vs. De Gale which should be a good fight in fairness.

I've seen previous press conferences and I know he's outspoken but I wasn't expecting that!

He may be a good trainer, but he's a cretin of a human being.

Used the 'N' word several times when addressing Thurman yesterday at the press conference, wouldn't shut up and then tried squaring up to him. Then started a tirade against immigrants and shouting Trump's name. That's just not on. I wouldn't have blamed Thurman if he clocked Angel on the jaw and KO'd him cold. He was deserving of it.

What was even more surprising is the lack of response to what he was shouting. If it was in the UK there would be an absolute uproar. I just saw Danny laughing along with it. Crazy stuff. Thurman was much more respectful and classy, and I'm glad he didn't stoop to that level.

I think Angel falls into the category of 'I'm latino so it's ok for me to say nigga'. It's weird because some Latinos say it and nobody bats an eyelid (the rapper Fat Joe for example) but it def isn't the first time I've heard him say it.

Angel is an arse though he loves to do that did it with Zab and Khan as well, get under their skin and throws them off. The Khan one was masterful, made Khan fight like an idiot and lead to him getting knocked out.
