Love how people act like they don't care about this fight anymore.
The megafight that the boxing world has been clamoring for between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. should be finalized in "the next couple days," Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the New York Post.
What will happen to boxing after the Mayweather vs Pacquaio fight happens? I feel like that's the only reason boxing has managed to stay relevant for the last few years, it always involves those two names. Don't get me wrong there are great fighters out there still but are there any great fights apart from this one?
Firstly, I seriously doubt Mayweather will take the fight, it's too much of a risk and he is posturing (like he always has) in order to save face.
Great fights have historically been a rarity, I would say Kovalev v Adonis is potentially a great fight, at least that's a fight to unify the division. Golovkin should hit the real mainstream soon, once that happens and there's more money involved I can see big fights with him involved, perhaps Cotto. Klitschko v Wilder would be a massive fight, Klitschko v Fury would have a fantastic build up and would get me very interested. Provodnikov v Mathysse has been made, that has the potential to be another Gatti Ward, look out for that one.
GGG is a superstar in the making, agreed. Plus Canelo who has the potential to be the next big thing in the sport. Then there seems to be a big list of talented young fighters coming through in America from Thurman to Errol Spence (who apparently floored Mayweather in training) to the Charlo twins. America also has it's first heavyweight champ in years. Also the UK is exploding with young talent right now and we should see, if not a golden era but a lot of very good domestic fights.
Boxing is in good shape imo.

And Floyd isn't past his prime? If Maidana can win rounds against him with his pressure, then Manny, who's a southpaw, has superior handspeed and throws at more awkward angles is sure to make it a competitive fight. I think the 2010 Floyd would have KO'd the 2010 Manny tbh.I don't. Pacman is past his prime, and will just be another name on Mayweather's unbeaten list. Floyd ducked him for many years, and will now win easy

I don't think Floyd would hurt Manny enough to KO him. It would be another boring points win. My point is that Pacman has regressed more than Money, and that we should have seen this in their prime!
Agree on that, but think it is an easier win for Money now, which is why he will take it.If the fight were to happen this year, it'd almost certainly go the distance. Fair enough - Manny probably has regressed more. Still the best fight out there IMO, it'd be competitive.
Boxing is in good shape but I think there are some big problems with the sport. Firstly it's suffering the same problem that the NFL is suffering from; people are very squeamish about violence and injuries so there have been many premature stoppages (not to mention some horrific judging). In addition, too much holding is being tolerating and turning fights into tedious encounters. The other big problem as I see it is Al Haymon and the fact that now more than ever, boxers can get away with avoiding credible challengers and are content with taking easy fights. Mayweather is the obvious example (two Maidana fights - seriously feck off) but there are plenty more who are just as bad. Adonis has continually ducked Kovalev, nobody wants to fight Rigondeaux and we have some of the least credible champions (and belts) in the history of the sport.
But yeah, Golovkin and Kovalev are fantastic, Manny is still very entertaining as well.
Might be old news, but seen a picture on Twitter of Floyd & Manny meeting to discuss the potential fight. Really hope this happens now. Negotiations appear to be going at snail's pace but at least there appears to be something happening!
They met up in Manny's hotel suite to discuss things. It's looking about 50/50 at the moment, if you're a realist. Still, 50/50 is the closest it's ever been and the latest rumour is HBO and Showtime have agreed on everything which is a big step in itself.
Did you see the video Mayweather leaked? Absolutely laughable. He secretly films the meeting in the hope of putting something out there to refute the suggestion he is ducking (and always has been). The best he can come up with in an hour long meeting is 15 seconds of him saying that they have to make the fight happen, well I'm convinced Floyd! How stupid does he think boxing fans are? It's as clear as day that he is posturing to save face, the fight will never happen.

Anyone know if the Golovkin fight is being shown in the UK & what time it will start?
It's on Five in the UK, hopefully it will mean more people are aware of the most exciting boxer in the sport. I think the main event will start at about 21:30 - 22:00.
How has boxing go to the stage where the two best boxers in a division can avoid fighting each other? It's an absolute farce. Can you imagine Federer and Nadal never playing each other? Who's to blame?

Is that tonight, or tomorrow night?
They should've fought 5 years ago, but I still expect it to be a great fight. Mayweather to win on points for me.
In addition to the future Hall of Famers finally hammering out a deal for their welterweight title unification bout - one that will see Mayweather receive the lion's share of a 60-40 money split in a fight that could gross around $400 million -- rival premium cable networks Showtime, which has Mayweather under contract, and HBO, which has a deal with Pacquiao, went through a brutal negotiation and will come together to produce and distribute a joint pay-per-view telecast, which is expected to cost a record-high $89.95 (and probably $10 more for high definition).
