The RedCafe Boxing Thread

I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of Froch's preparation for this fight but he certainly doesn't have a reputation as someone who is unprofessional, quite the contrary. Frankly, I'd back Froch if he's 60% of the man that went toe to toe with Kessler. I suspect he has lost very little, if anything since that wonderful fight. Groves is a decent technical fighter but he doesn't have power to worry Froch and I strongly suspect he hasn't got the chin to stand up to the kind of serious abuse Froch can dish out. I stand to lose about £500 if Froch fails to win, I'll probably bet more if the odds drift.

I actually have £120.50 in my Hills account. Not had a winner since an e/w on Zach Johnson at the Open. Not had many bets, but been a barren run. The round odds are pretty generous for the Froch fight- points 9/4, but round odds veer between 12/1-25/1. Maybe a result punt (yep 2/9 like you said) and a couple of round bets?

Looking at it now, there is money to be made, but it is all in on Froch. So I have £120 to play with; £100 on him to win pays £122- that leaves me £22 to potentially play six bets on rounds at £3-£4 each- if one of those comes in it would boost the winnings. Fear is it goes to points which is only 9/4 and so not worth backing with such a small stake.

It'll be an enormous achievement if Groves even goes the distance.

People, including the bookies, do seem to expect it to go a good few rounds though- you reckon Froch stoppage in rounds 7-10 maybe?

I actually just watched the Ringside special rerun. Groves was very controlled. The most tedious thing was whenever they cut back to the two of them sat on the couch they had to throw in a 'it's red hot in here' comment to try and build tension. It was so contrived, unnecessarily and ultimately boring to keep doing it.

Got a good month of Boxing ahead of me, tickets for Froch v Groves in November and just sorted flights, tickets & hotel for Barker v Sturm December 7th. Very excited for both.

Just watched Ringside. Very interesting. I get the impression Groves has got underneath Froch's skin. How that will effect the fight I don't know. Either way I can't wait to go and watch it. Looks like a really decent undercard with two more fights to add aswel.

What are we thinking the best bets are?

From a betting point of view I don't tend to try and predict rounds and I rarely even try to predict the method of victory. Froch will win, that's the only thing I am certain about and I am glad to see the odds on that result becoming more attractive!

Groves was like that in when Johnny interviewed the pair of them at after the press conference and also on the Ringside show v the gobby De Gale. De Gale was going crazy, calling him all kinds and he was just sat there do the you mad bro routine. Froch always has a few things to say, going to knock you out and what not but Groves takes it well. Still, he should get beat all the same. Fights like this should be on every weekend, boxing would be top dog.

23rd of November for the Froch fight.

Aargh, I fly to Singapore on 22 November and there s a 99% likelihood I will miss this fight:(

Anyone going to watch Mike Perez fighting on the undercard of Golovkin? Curious to see how he does. He's talented but hasn't been very active.

I just find Golovkin a joy to watch. So much power and technique.

Shame I missed it and not seen any reruns on Sky. He has hammers for fists. There's been a lot of good fights lately. Just sad I am flying to Singapore when the Froch fight is on.

I enjoyed it as a well, although I thought he looked fairly one dimensional; Stevens isn't famed for his defence and he really struggled to throw anything varied enough to break through. I'm glad to have seen Golovkin's chin tested though, he walked through a couple of heavy blows which is very encouraging. For me the most exciting performance of the night was the Cuban Perez; I had him at 5/6 and he completely out boxed and out fought Abdu.

I agree, mate. It does beg the question as to why he doesn't put his money where his mouth is, and give up watching the sport.

Also why is Frankie Leal's bloody on our children? Easy now.

Your children are literally covered in his blood, for shame.

Back to reality; I like Adamek this weekend @4/7, I like him an awful lot. The most interesting (from a freak show p.o.v.) is Tua v Ustinov. 5'10 v 6'8 and you know what? I think I may back the smaller man; he has a great pedigree and a left hook that could damage Ustinov's flabby, soft body.

His filthy blood is our children's lube, for shame.

Interesting to read that Mike Tyson was on drugs during his fights and cheated blood tests. I hope he gets the book thrown at him, wipe his name forever off the annals of World Heavyweight Champions. If a sporting authority can do that for Armstrong, they can do it for Tyson too.

You do realise the difference between taking cocaine and weed to what Lance Armstrong took, right? fecking hell Lyon

I don't think the sort of drugs Tyson was on would've given him the sort of advantage Armstrong enjoyed. If anything, it makes Tyson's record more remarkable.

I saw part of the ringside interview with Froch and Groves, and Groves came across like a petulant child. I think it has the makings of a good fight, but I'd like Froch to make Groves eat a bit of humble pie after seeing that interview.

Thank god I changed my mind. Ustinov fought a very intelligent fight, I think he may receive a call from Wlad's people in the next few weeks.
