The Reality Draft: Main Thread (Finals)

Also lol @ the person who will get Zlatan while someone else gets Romario, or when someone gets Ballack and the other gets Keane/Platini, or when someone gets Puyol and the other gets Nesta

People gon' get angry, but that gon' make shit exciting!

Puyol is in Legacy pool though - but agree on the likes of Zlatan/Ballack, maybe Shearer too.

The problem with Zlatan is fitting him. He is a tough striker because he needs to see tons of the ball, yet he's not rated against top defenders. I don't think he belongs here.

FFS Van Basten banned... Was bound to happen though. I will change my DoF Interference Forward to Hugo Sanchez.

He is just not rated or arguably even food enough to be part of this draft. Infact in a normal snake draft he would not have even been picked so having as a Goat is daft

Agree on Zlatan and Alan Shearer not being GOAT material. @BorisDeLeFora & @Jayvin to repick them.

Errr... @Edgar Allan Pillow , just so you are aware, you probably need someone else to run the random draws because it could take some engineering, or at least checking and re-running since there are no subs available.

E.g. if someone gets Gaz as the legacy chap and then Zanetti as the DoF interference it would essentially mean playing Zanetti as a midfielder, leftback or Gaz as a CB. That would really be quite shit for whoever it happens to.

Gaz? There is a sub. You are picking 13 players with one Tevezobola walkout. Still 12 left to fit in final 11. If the worst case happens, I'll get a neutral to nominate a replacement.

Ok. I have read the rules.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

1. The players in the block list aren't eligible at any stage of the draft.

2. Regarding RiOFL and Hargriefs, once the players who are suspended/injured are back, can we keep the reinforcements as well?

3. Now to Tevezobola, how will it be decided which player it is? Will it be randomized? Will the players in Legacy Pool/DoF Interference Pools be eligible for this?

4. "O3 - One reinforcement player per round excepting R3 below." - Didn't get this one.

1. Yes. They won't feature in this draft at all.
2. Yes. Once they are back both them and the reinforcements will be available.
3. It will be randomized excluding the GK. Yes. All pools will be open. If the Legacy player walks out, then you have a bonus, so to say!
4. T3. Edited OP.

Feck, thought of a 2 brilliant picks, both players were born in 1949 :(

With Changes made:

I've replaced blocked Platini with Figo.
Joga Bonito has replaced blocked van Basten with Hugo Sanchez

@antohan your picks please?

@Chesterlestreet @Stobzilla alert for your submissions.

Block: Baresi.

DOF ATT: Rivaldo
DOF MID: Gerrard
DOF: DEF: Stam

Legacy: Enzo Francescoli

Have I done it right ?

Don't think Gerrard is good enough to be a GOAT. Francescoli is perhaps a bit too good for the legacy pick as well but it's fine otherwise I guess.

Just a point of note from the outsiders perspective - this draft will really benefit those at the top of the draw. There's a few more true GOATs left out of those who haven't been put in the blocked pool yet, which means on this style there will be a huge gap between whoever picks first and whoever picks last.

Yups, was working that out yesterday.

Worse, with so many of the DoF forwards being strikers, most strikers will likely not get picked until that is clear, and who's turn is it immediately after that random draw? Top chap in the draft order. Managers at the bottom will probably have to get a second striker early and pray the randomly allocated one turns out to be a good fit.

But the Legacy and DoF players HAVE TO play, don't they? Again, isn't that a complete arse for whoever gets both Neville and Zanetti/Cafú by random accident?

It's just the one single thing that needs dealing with: that a legacy pick doesn't overlap a DoF one. Should primarily be a question of players who most definitely only ever played RB/LB/RW/LW as you are only ever going to play one of those, generic CB/CM/AM/ST should be fine. As soon as we know who got each legacy player you will know for each DoF round who "Can't get X or Y" and just run the randomiser again if the first result matches them.

To Note: Consider the difference between World Class and GOAT. Nominate GOAT's here.

If you think any player is not GOAT material, tag the manager directly for reconsideration. If there is debate, I'll make the call later.

We will never agree and we will never get 16 equivalent players. Leave it as it is.

Brilliant, I was waiting to see if Baresi went to decide on the Block.

Please, pretty please, give me Enzo as my legacy pick

Cue, the fat one arriving in Camp Antohan. Actually, he does look a bit camp. Brolin I mean.

Legacy pool looks better than I was in the impression of. I thought we had to give sort of average quality players so went with Winterburn. Can I change? As I think the others names there are quite ahead of Winterburn in terms of quality.

Yup. Not average. It will be good players...but not regulars in these draft games. Yes, you can change till all managers submit and I close this.

I don't think we should be changing players myself (same goes for Batistuta replacing Rossi or Zlatan/Shearer getting swapped). The entire point of this draft relative to other drafts is accommodating random events as best as you can, the more we sanitise that the more it is just a snake draft with a massive pool and some blocked players.

The Legacy Pool gets run first so at least whoever gets Winterburn knows he no longer needs a LB. I'd be far more worried about other players TBH.

Sorry mate, Whos Gaz? I also don't see Neville here. If you are looking at fullbacks, then only Zambrotta is in legacy pool and he can play both flanks.

Now I double check, he isn't in your table. You have him listed as legacy in the OP though, so he was listed earlier when harms updated it, it just stuck. Agree on Zambrotta and there not being another clash other than Winterburn and Maldini, but I'm blocking Maldini so no worries.

As you all know, I'm fond of oldies and players that don't get their fair dues having a shot :D

Blocked: Paolo Maldini, the right-winger kryptonite that single-handedly attacks, shores up the defence, covers everyone, and keeps Garrincha in his pocket while at it.

DoF Interference Forward: Allan Simonsen
DoF Interference Midfielder: Ricardo Bochini
DoF Defender: Oscar Ruggeri

Legacy Pool: Fernando Morena

Only changed players based on other peoples feedback. Feel free to keep the originals, I'm a newbie to this!

Who? And here you were complaining about Zlatan who at least he will win some scan votes. God help whoever gets your picks!

Exactly, drafts have been about usual suspects for far too long and it's been a while ssince we've had a good story or gem to find out about.

Allan Simonsen won a Ballon d'Or and I'll happily get him ahead of Zlatan, Shearer, Weah, Rossi, Sánchez or even Shevchenko. I'm willing to swap if allowed. In some cases quality, in others simply tactics.

Ricardo Bochini was an absolute beast who dominated Argentinian and South American football for almost a decade, his problem was politics first, Maradona later. Would gladly have him ahead of Bollox, Gerrard, Socrates, Xavi and Robbo. Again, part quality, others tactics.

Fernando Morena is the all-time top scorer in the Uruguayan league, second only to Alberto Spencer as Copa Libertadores top scorer ever, annd a fecking legend. I won three games with him in the 50s draft and he is definitely better than a truckload of legacy picks.

Edit: And from when these players become GOAT level?
Simonsen was pretty great for Gladbach, not sure if he's quite GOAT level though. Never heard of Bochini before, and I only remember Morena from anto picking him in some other draft.

Chester's not been for 2 days now. @Theon are you willing to take his place?

Anyone else?

I won't officially take his place because he'll probably want to play more than me. But in the interests of letting the game go ahead I'll block and pick the relevant players. That doesn't affect chester seeing as it's random, so I'm sure he won't mind.

Block - Rummenigge

DOF
Forward - Del Piero
Midfielder - Tardelli
Defender - Cannavaro

Legacy - Solskjaer

No worries mate. Just ignore the feedback, it's just all of us bitching about who we don't want to get.

Don't worry mate. It's all fine. These type dicussions happens every draft with a total blowout every other draft.

@MJJ are you interested in playing?

Is that how MJJ came to mind

I don't think those players fit in the DoF pools anto. :p From my understanding the DoF pool wasnt for players who dont get the fair due but for those who would be a strength for a team they are drafted to in terms of quality and vote. And are generally heavyweights of the game.

Simonsen has a better shot at GOAT as a wingforward than most of those forwards do as strikers. He got a Ballon d'Or for starters, which most of these so-called GOATs never did.

Re: Bochini, that's the entire point. A player Maradona himself bowed to is someone you should all definitely know about and at least one of us will need to research extensively and tell us all he found out. That used to be half the fun in the drafts and it has been completely replaced by draft mechanics and the challenge of getting the usual suspects despite mechanics.
