@Chesterlestreet

I'll go with Billy Costacurta.

Nice pick. I had three defenders I wanted to pick and Billy was one of them. I was sure he would go if I didn't pick him but he was the one I could least see playing in a risky back three. I could also imagine the Italian fecking off to Argentina the moment he heard I planned to have only three defenders.

Anto/Skizzo are already so far down the gutter they won't go too bananas. VJ has already been very lucky so he knows he's still got a good edge even if his worst case scenario becomes reality. I think one of the players in the middle will have the biggest meltdowns, the one with the most hope for TBOLA to crush.

It's a strange state of affairs when you would rather lose a goat than a legacy player.

It's ridiculous, some people got Falcao, Breitner... and we want their "equals" to feck off to Argentina...

Well, that's the nature of the draft. Maybe we can give more thought to pools next time out than accepting everyone's nominations but it's not that big a deal, as it creates entertainment if you some people wanna avoid and some people wanna really have. What's the fun if it's just a formality and no one is gonna have any reaction to what they get.

And well, I know I nominated three players who I considered "GOAT" and would have happily had all three, so hopefully others weren't tactical in their nominations, that's not really in the spirit of things.

That's why I said that goat list should have been validated

Nah, it was impossible to have a valid list of equivalent players. Pirlo is rightly in there, it's just what it means for a team, and if we started getting into all those caveats we would never get to agree on anything.

There were obvious ones to swap Gerrard for (e.g. Nedved, or Gullit, who wasn't blocked yet) but it was part of the concept and, frankly, I think I've enjoyed this more with that headache and having to accommodate fate than just getting a bunch of great playersm as freebies. It sure makes the drafting more challenging and I couldn't really care less about the games.

So you prefer to retain Freddie? I knew you had a soft corner for him!

The problem with Freddie was how it nailed down the tactical roadmap for me, losing him now won't change all the decisions I had to make as a result and at this stage I probably wouldn't even prioritise getting someone for his role, i.e. I'd probably end up with someone of equivalent level.

Gerrard however... Ljungberg is better on the right wing, Luis Enrique is better everywhere (some would disagree, but I love Lucho), Hierro would make a better partner for Effenberg... Effenberg-Gerrard calls for a third midfielder behind them, but then Ljungberg forces wingers so I have Raúl upfront looking fecking lonely (that was my issue with getting Raúl, tremendous player that he is). Either the midfield is weak or Raúl is a bit lost up there. As it stands, the best I can do is have Gerrard behind Raúl in a similar role to the one he played with Torres but, frankly, I'd rather get other players there!

As said above, the issue with Raúl is how it compounds the Gerrard problem. I'd rather Gerrard went as I'm more than happy with the CLs All-Time top scorer. Who wouldn't be? None of my other players present any issues, I would happily play my way to a final with any of them. Why would I pick them otherwise?

If he doesn't show up his turn will expire during the half time of our game and I can't see anyone including me being arsed about the draft in the middle of our game, so either you reveal before or after it.

Yeah I was a bit surprised on the Effenberg pick. Thought you'll for a DM as you already have Gerrard!

There was no way I would pass on someone I would play all the way to a final because I "already have Gerrard". The last thing you want to do is build aside around your weak point. I did mull over going 4-4-2 so he felt more at home and people could relate to the great player he was mid-noughties, but it was effectively going 4-4-2 for Gerrard-Ljungberg, not exactly Keane-Scholes, or Giggs-Beckham.

Well, a midfield of Hierro holding it with Effenberg and Gerrard as box-box midfielders is extremely tasty.

Yeah, that's what I got Thiago for, in case I need Hierro there or, worse, lose him. Not many top notch ball-playing defenders around with his pace and athleticism, which was ultimately the deciding factor over BillyC.

So who do people prefer as a libero over Scirea, Passarella and Sammer? Really goes down to preference there. Scirea being the best defensively and being more of a playmaking midfielder when he stepped out from the defense and Sammer being the most balanced. Passarella was probably the most simplistic but he did what he could to an extremely high standard, entering the box frequently as an extra man.

Really hard to pick from that lot.
