I prefer heel Drew if I’m honest. He just doesn’t come across as well face for me. When he came back with Zig and was speaking about how everyone back stage was a pussy and all that was great stuff. As for Mania, has to be Drew vs Lashley, been waiting for this to come back around since their last tussle. Which if memory serves me right they had one hell of a match that finished weirdly with like a no contest, DQ or count out or something and then they never crossed paths again after Bobby went blow for blow.

As for who wins, I hope it’s Bobby, It would go against the grain but would to me set up bigger better matches for the rest of the season if he wins. Who wouldn’t want to see Bobby vs Brock and the Hurt Buisness taking it to Brock.
 
Christian is the most beige wrestler ever.

He was good was he was an almost silent member of a team in the Attitude era. Beyond that he's incredibly dull, despite the fact he's technically a very good wrestler.

AEW is turning into TNA mk2 now.

Aye, signing up WWE midcard legends from 2001. They should stick to bringing in the likes of Moxley rather than go down this Big Show, Christian type road. Who the feck wants to watch the big show in 2021?

Overly gimmicky matches. End result was that disastrous explosion.

Funnily enough the Catcus Jack v Terry Funk match had the same ending where the ring 'blowing up' was a massive anti climax and the crowd started booing which is why Mick actually nearly killed the pair of them afterwards to make up for it.

Just seen the ‘explosion’ finish.....that’s gonna be a meme for years to come isn’t it. One of the most ridiculous finishes in the history of wrestling.

@Ekeke and other big AEW fans.. what are your honest thoughts on that explosion? They're getting (understandably, in my opinion) a lot of stick for it and it seems to be all anyone on twitter is talking about on the PPV hashtag.

Why was it so bad?!

You'd have to think something misfied because surely they ran this through ahead of the PPV and someone would've said "this is shit" ?

I mean just for the illusion of it looking dangerous you need way more smoke (to hide that it wasn't) and a decent 'boom' sound as a starter for ten.

It was flat, after they built up the ring "exploding" I was expecting more. And when I saw the sparks flying I was like huh... But then I saw pyros go off in the corners and a bigger explosion after as shown in the pic above. I expect it was supposed to be more than it was and some didnt go off. But I dont get why there are people lying and denying that there were explosions as well as the sparks. There obviously were, just not as much as you'd expect from an "exploding ring". But as I did say earlier I'd rather this happened than they went too close to the sun with the explosions and someone got hurt and couldnt wrestle again or worse. And the match was great. So for me it was like an 8/10 match and then a 6/10 finish

Absolutely awful and the surprise is Christian, another ex-WWE midcarder approaching 50.

I like Christian but he is not worth the hype.

Yes. WWE fans in this thread were hyping it, so they could knock it afterwords. I told y'all from the start it would be Christian or RVD and that they'd hype it a lot more than "A hall of fame level wrestler" and Tony Khan saying its one of his favourite wrestlers.

If it was Brock or Punk they'd tell you they got someone the competition wanted

Yeah, something was definitely off. You're right, it wasn't just 'sparklers' but that's how it started, so people will use that. But even the explosions were poor. There HAD to be something better they could've done, even if that meant changing the camera angle or something. From the angle they used you could literally see them laying there unaffected by the 'explosions'
 
Think the PPV was average overall and the finish summed it up, expecting more and falling flat.

They quite clearly could have done more with the explosions, don't know how some could even try and debate that. Don't book it if that's the level you're comfortable with. It's clearly a botch IMO. The commentators selling it made it even worse.

I dont think that ending can be defended. Or should be defended.

I mean ive seen it defended, so kudos for that. But you know its bad when the defence for what weve seen (not just the photo but the actual video) is... "but wwe... "

Its probably the worst thing outside of WWE since TNA and their electrified cage, with them flipping the light switch on and off. The thing is AEW should be sold as different to WWE. So to do something as silly as WWE would do, it deserves to be called out not defended.

I like Christian, and am a huge fan. I loved his peeps stuff after he derived it from the Rock. Im surprised WWE didnt take him and keep him especially with Edge main eventing WM (and Christian himself being in the final five of the Rumble). Im glad hes in AEW as I think he will have some fantastic matches.
But hes not a huge huge star like Tony Khan is saying. Hes not really been a main eventer in WWE nor seen as one despite being champion (it was more secondary title around the time he feuded with Orton whilst Cena/Punk was more seen as the main event).

I mean it's wrestling, so it's just something that has to look impressive without it being remotely dangerous. Something where you could suspend your disbelief enough to think it would effect them in the ring...

Basically just bigger bangs on the turnbuckle and simultaneously covering the ring in smoke so you couldn't see what was going on would have done the trick.

It is a bit of a flop concept tbh (certainly the timer countdown explosion finale part). If you look at the video I posted above which is the only other match I can remember seeing it in, it was received poorly there too.

I mean barbed wire and explosive boards is enough really isn't it. Don't think it needs to build to an explosion that it's never going to deliver on unless you actually endanger the guys in the ring.

Do think Khan doesn't help himself with his comments/tweets sometimes... as soon as you make promises/say something like that you're just opening yourself up to ridicule unless you over-deliver.

I think Christian is a great get for AEW (but they should definitely cool it now on older ex-WWE guys for a bit now)... but how much bigger would it have been if he had just turned up last night out of the blue? No one would be let-down, it would be a great surprise and yeah, would have just been good buzz

I like Christian, I think he can have some great matches in AEW hopefully. Hopefully can't pass on some in-ring psychology experience

But "It's...it's Christian" has never been more appropriate then last night.

Without a doubt he would have gone straight to Vince when the offer was on the table and Vince passed on him. Got to think there must be a reason for that.

Rather see Christian than Jericho wrestle in fairness.

I think it's even worse than that. At least with that it was just the Dudleys and LAX in a mid-card feud on PPV.

This had two of AEW's biggest stars in the main event of a PPV.
 
I think Khan has always been a wrestling fan. He like everybody else would have been a fan during the attitude era. If I was in AEW i would have suggested they get Christian too if he can go like he did at the Rumble for a match or two a year.

However I also wouldnt have announced it like they did. Angle is a bigger name than Christian (even if hes five years older). Nothing against Christian, but i cant see him bringing extra eyes balls to the product.

Yeah probably. Ive really enjoyed AEW has a whole and as a product. But im disappointed they didnt make it sports based like they said they would (even though they got the win loss record and hardly have DQs).

I think Tony Khan needs to cool it a bit as it reminded me of Dixie Carter doing that @SalfordRed18 @Annihilate Now!
They need to focus on their younger roster. I think Christian will help some of them a long no doubt (andon the whole theyve used legends almost perfectly in mentor roles, manager roles etc).

Christian im interested to see what they do with him. But I think you can only use the 'surprise' element once or twice before people just laugh it off.

If the commentators said nothing, or rightly buried it they could have run with that and it would have been okay.

The fact that they tried to sell made the entire thing laughable IMO.

Most staunch AEW fans on twitter are trashing it. Im surprised theres one on here whos going out of his way to defend it.
