The Overlap | Fan Debate Christmas Special

He’s a sarcastic condescending knob. And it’s not a ‘take’, it’s my opinion and I am entitled to it.

You should stop being so offended and learn to take a joke. You're ruining comedy by being so sensitive.

I asked ChatGPT:

Ricky Gervais is undoubtedly one of the most iconic British comedians of all time, and his influence on modern comedy is immense.

I asked ChatGPT:

Yes, an opinion can be considered a "take." Both terms refer to a personal viewpoint or interpretation of a subject. However, "take" often implies a more informal or immediate response, while "opinion" can suggest a more considered or developed viewpoint. Would you like to explore this further?

I asked ChatGPT:

He said no.

And what about Merchant?

Steve and Karl are still friends. He spoke about them meeting up in LA fairly recently.

He hasn't worked with Gervais for a long time though and he wasn't involved with the David Brent film so I'm guessing he's also fallen out with him.

Comedy is generally supposed to be funny. Also this comment is ironic for somebody who finds Gervais not funny and too offensive.

Sorry, I was doing a Gervais homage. I guess you just don't find me and Ricky's sense of humour funny, that's ok.

I thought he was left wing. It's possible he's stayed where he is politically but left has become more left.
I don't follow up much really but I always thought he was left wing politically. Not sure why though

This (with Ricky) was really boring to watch. One of the worst Overlap episodes so far.
I love Ricky's work and material but interviews and shows like this are not his strength. Some comedians are just not good at it.

Keane has a soft spot for Juventus and would have loved to play for them.

The Chiellini episode is great, they should really try to get on more players that didn't play in England. Different perspectives and stories (and they always have huge respect for United)

Agree, great ep. Could listen to Chiellini talk about football all day. Top knowledge.

I liked what he was saying about how Italian defenders being thought the dirty tricks, remember Del Piero on something a while ago talking about something similar.

That Italian identity and defensive style needs a rethink because they do need to be able to play out but they're also not going to get away with all the sly shit anymore, basically having a good bit of their defending done before the ball even arrives. He said they are kind of struggling to adapt to that in the modern game and that's being reflected now with the national team being weaker.

Maybe I'm miles behind with this, but Neville's ads are utterly horrific, even for ads standards. He's so wooden and dull doing them, how has any who's paid for that space signed off on them

He's always been fairly apolitical.

He publicly backed Labour underJeremy Corbyn in 2017 because he was furious that Theresa May wanted to bring back Fox hunting.

He speaks with pride about the welfare state and paying tax.

He attracts a right wing crowd because of his trans stuff and attacks on celebrities.

Carragher's general knowledge about football and his memory is amazing. He sees our shirt and immediately says ; "1994?"

Completely opposite to Neville.

That's the trick. Bad publicity is good publicity!

They touched on it during the Gervais podcast.

There has been several instances of this. Don’t love him as a personality but he’s very clued in on football and its history.

He is like random FM player who knows players from Getafe, Bologna, Lyon etc....
He can be annoying but you must admit him that he truly loves and follows football. Roy and Ian are not his level but they do love this game.
Gary on the other hand is strictly in business. Follows domestic football which is his job related and that is it. I don't see in him much love for football in general.
There were couple of situations where you could see that Gary's general knowledge is poor as feck. Few times he even named some clubs against HE played as "some Czech club" or "some Dutch club". When they were talking about some random players from 90s or 2000s you could see on his face; "Eh, what? Who?".

Carragher said in an interview that when younger, 90% of what he watched was football and then as he got older football was his life and the only sports he watches and plays and you can see that in his knowledge. Passionate about football.
