I don't know if what you are saying is 'right'. Quality is a part of the issue but it is not the main one, Amad, Hojlund, Zirkzee, aren't exactly missing loads of chances, we aren't getting into a lot of good areas and then having everything break down due to the lack of quality up top. We've seen guys like Ings get 20+ goals playing for a relegation team, Solanke got 19 last year, Toney got 20, old Ronaldo got 18, none of them are great players but all of them played in attacks that essentially funnelled attacks through them.Once again, what I said was proved right with our disgraceful performance on Friday evening.
We truly need to Unite together on this and begin to read off the same hymn sheet when it comes to sub standard players. If we don't, we will never leave this current woeful cycle that we're currently in.
Everything starts with the system, top players will bail you out more than lower quality players but you can tell which attacks are in a functioning system and which are not. People overcomplicate football, most teams will concentrate their game plan around a single talisman in attack and whilst good teams will spread the goals, there will be one 'main' man. Salah, Haaland, Palmer, Isak are all examples, all playing in different styles but you need to understand their skill set to appreciate how those teams elevate their level. We did this with Rashford when we played Wout/Antony and whilst it was basic, it worked because of the other twos off the ball work.
What I don't understand is why we aren't seeing overlapping WBs - that seems like such an easy way to literally transform our attack - especially if you start Hojlund who scored a number of goals last season from very simple runs, outmuscling a CB or very simply getting to a cross first. Amorim seems to be trying to be too clever, inverting WBs, the 10s, even having CBs on their weaker foot it seemed like. I can guarantee if we see correct footed WBs play and they are allowed to push on, we will see more chance creation purely because defenders hate runs behind them and crosses/cut backs even when defended have an element of chance in terms of getting deflections or lucky bounces etc. and then I think people will begin to reassess writing off all of our young players. We might get countered more but we get countered a lot already and create next to nothing so he has to take a bit more risk.
